Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Get over yourself doofus!

The reality is that Gus has always gone in big on external talent - but has rarely succeeded!

He has a knack of offloading players - because some are quality but not used right at the club he presides over!

He thinks money grows on trees & treats the club budget as such - throwing money away to payout sacked coaches etc.

He is the LAST influence Wests Tigers needed!!

Remember when he went all in on Jamie Soward to take the Panthers to a Premiership??

Then bought BMM - Sitaleki - TMM etc from the Tigers to barely see first grade?
time will tell I guess

I think the dogs will have more success than us in the next 3 years… unless we get moses

Let’s see

No need to get personal Doofus

The point I was making was Gus has done a good job in 12 months.

Some on here are criticizing him by saying he’s going to mess up their cap and wasn’t a contributable factor in the panthers success.

The signings you posted do not negate the positive things he has done in 12 months.

Yeah he’s signed some average players to fill out the squad - he’s also let Naden go whilst on contract - to us mind you - who signed him for a 3 year extension after showing us what exactly?

Anyway if you think Gus has done an average job that’s your opinion but I think he’s been the best purchase the bulldogs have made in a long time
Do some book reading lad!!

He did BUGGER ALL for Penrith's success - aside from get his mate Packer to bail out their debts!!

His 5-year plan turned into more than 10 years while he played Checkers (not CHESS) with coach appointments etc.

They only succeeded after luck - and the return of one of the coaches Gus sacked!!

The guy is an inveterate liar and a leech on rugby league!

we have TPA's
TBH don’t care for TPA’s…. Especially those that every Tom, dick and Harry can see. It’s the other ones that “don’t exist” that I would be interested in or at the very least hope eventuates, as they do for others!!

The good thing about being on this forum for awhile now is when you get on and just look at the posters names while scrolling without reading all the rubbish , only stopping now and then to read the very few on here that have any idea about what they are saying
Your welcome, I try my best, it's lovely to be recognised every now and then.

Good points. He needs a big season.
Bennett moved him on from Souths. He's moved on Wally Lewis so Doueihi's departure wasn't a big issue for him. The point is how much do you pay for a utility?

If Moses arrives in 24 and Doueihi has a good season in 23, is the club better off letting him go? We have a good potential centre pairing in Talau and Kepaoa with Naden and young Feledy as back ups. Our forwards with Matamua and Faagutu on the horizon also look good. Does the club come to the same conclusion that Bennett did at Souths?

Jacob Liddle (Dragons)
Estimated salary: $200,000
Age: 26

The Wests Tigers are paying about $50,000 of his salary, leaving the Dragons to pick up close to $200,000 of his contract this year.

David Klemmer (Tigers)
Estimated price: $400,000
Age: 29

The Knights are still paying half of Klemmer’s $800,000 salary for this season. At $400,000 for 2023, the Tigers have picked up Klemmer for a steal. Especially considering the Tigers were meant to be paying Zane Musgrove (released to the Dragons) in excess of $500,000 for the next two years.

It's a tough one. When he is on I think he is one of the best runners of the footy we have in relation to making a bust. I think because he is a big guy if he fixes his defense he can be a good defender.

He was recently considered for the captaincy role and one of our leaders.

We'll see what happens this year.

Musgrove was on that much?!

He is not worth $50k!

His apparent 5 year plan came from a quote saying it will take 5 years to get the salary cap in order. He never said anything about delivering a premiership within 5 years.
A lot of what you say is true. Gus burns through finances like few others. But in doing so he did set up the Panthers for sustained success.
I'm not sure he is capable of achieving the same at the Dogs as they obviously don't have the same catchment. But it does look like he is off to a good start.

So that’s the Klemmer/Hastings player swap? How much did they get Hastings for then?
Klemmer was on the outer at Newcastle and I reckon we could have got him anyway.
Also seems pretty obvious now they didn’t want Brooks at anywhere near full freight and we wouldn’t kick in.
Love having Klemmer but can’t understand why we would give Newcastle a halfback for basically nothing.

The goalposts may have moved now that Maguire has gone. In my mind, Marshall wants certain attributes in the 6 and 7 to play his style of game. Speed off the mark, ball playing, short kicking for repeat sets, defence are a few I believe would be mandatory. That is just my view but as for leadership, I think that ship has sailed.

For some reason Hastings wasn't rated. I assume because he is a little slow and the coaching staff saw him as a lock. It could be because he is a difficult personality and not that good a player.

I believe you've answered your own question.

Moses on a 5 yr deal is better than klemmer and Bateman on 4 yr deals. Even at 1.4M. That’s the price you pay for losing him in the first place.

Gus has done an amazing job with the dogs to date (in 12 months!!) and all this “they’ll lose players and he’s messed up their cap” is absolute one sided WT mediocrity. He has signed who’s he’s wanted (bar MM) and hasn’t lost a player to date. And he transformed panthers by securing funding from Packer. Wish Pascoe and Lee had thought of bringing him in before Dogs did… but losers don’t win.

Also we need two more marquee players in the backs to be a top 8 eight contender - at least one in halves.
I get ur anger , but how can u bag the club , sheens has done a great job so far to rebuild a useless forward pack , but u can’t buy everyone in one season, we will shed more dead wood next year and hopefully bring in some class backs , so support the club while they continue to rebuild and if it fails then u can unload on them .

We could find a few backs from the lower grades. There is a lot of talent and one or two just need to work hard and impress the coaching team. I am optimistic we have solutions in our own backyard for our backs.

Article in DT suggests otherwise. Dogs had to go cap in hand to Leagues club for a $6mil handout. Its not so much the cap thats the problem its the ancillary spending that has gone through the roof since Gus arrived. Only Sydney NRL club that is still heavily dependent on pokies revenue from their leagues club.
