'23 trials

Still a few first graders there.
Roosters are playing the trials correctly.
They’ll win this thing, pocket the 100k and then laugh at those whining about their perceived ‘sombrero’.
‘Perceived’ please, fact! Come on champ, everybody knows even the media. NRL is just to gutless to take on Poolitis!!

Lol not fact. It is a presumption.
I said last week it was foolish not to have a crack at this money. Roosters have clearly got their sights set on it.

Had a quick look at next weeks trials. I knew we had Raiders just looking at the other games, have to say there is a real good chance we may come last in this tournament. Its clear that Sheens doesn’t care about the result of this tournament for the club otherwise we would’ve had a stronger squad for our game against the Warriors.

Now we have Raiders and that’s always a tough battle. I’m expecting a stronger team than what we named in Round 1 but I hope to god if there is one that the defence majorly improves from us in the next game. I know Sheens has always been an attack coach, but it doesn’t matter if you score 30 points if you can’t prevent the opposition from scoring 36. If we do lose to the Raiders next week we will be pegged for the favourites again to win the spoon and honestly, if we do come last I may even accept that we may get back to back spoons. We certainly aren’t making the 8. The only way if we do lose next week to avoid last place, we have to hope that Souths put a cricket score on the Dragons and have a worst PD than us. I hope the boys lift next week but with Sheens back at the helm I’m not holding my breath. Its clear he didn’t even bother to try and fix the mistakes that cost Madge his job. So far Sheens has not been an upgrade.
We have yet to trot out our first grade side. The coaches are new,, and had limited time, also 5 new players to blend into the side. It will be a tough year, with better players to lift our game, but people thinking we will be in the 8, or even close are dreaming. I believe this will be a big cleanout of pretenders, and 2024 will be far different team.

You’re not wrong but we shouldn’t have let the opposition score close to 50 either. I know we weren’t full strength but the principal is still the same. We won’t make the 8 this year at best I see us finishing 10th if we go higher I’ll be impressed but we definitely aren’t making the 8. 24 probably will be kinda similar if I remember right I think we’ve already filled up 21 spots of our 30 for 24.

goodness me. they're called trials for a reason. don't write off a season after 160 minutes of non-competitive football. while there was some terrible decisions made defensively, if you watch the tape back a lot of them were made by reserve graders or players returning from injury.

this was never going to be an instant fix. patience.

A new coach has to fix the mistakes of the old one. The way they played showed that Sheens hasn’t made really any changes in where Madge went wrong defence wise. I know we weren’t full strength and I acknowledged that in a post I made after the game, but you simply can’t let the team you’re facing score close to 50 points regardless Sheens may do better with a full strength team but if they haven’t been working on defence, we’re in for a long year and going by what happened in the trial we seem to be heading that way.

Madge's biggest issue was the constant chopping and changing of defensive structures. Furner and Sheens have put one defensive structure in place and new structures take time, irrespective of whether they're attack or defence.

there is most certainly an increased attacking onus on the team, but don't think Sheens doesn't care about defence. his best teams held their line brilliantly. WT 2010 and 2005 (through the finals we were immense) spring to mind, as do the 1990s Raiders.

all teams work on defence. wrestling and technique is crucial for teams to win the collision and momentum. while the main focus would've been on attack, he certainly would've had the boys working on it through preseason. let's wait and see how they fare these next few months before making any calls.

For a start the team on the field for the second half when most of the tries were scored against us was less than a reserve grade team including 2 sg ball players. Most of that second half team had barely played with each and that was Sheens fault as I've said all he cares about at the moment is giving as many as possible first grade experience.Lets see what he comes up with today.Lastly they have been concentrating on defence that's why they hired a defence coach
