Am I being too negative about today's performance ??

But players can have a bad day. If we got rid of everyone who played a stinker in the first match of the season we'd only have six teams in the comp. I thought he was trying too hard. A little more thought in the execution and things could have broken differently. The difference is I wasn't seeing Brooks doing much of anything. Which is odd because Doueihi was creating problems which should have given him more space to operate in. I get that people are disappointed with Brooks and he's getting perhaps more stick than he deserves (he's never had a great team around him). But ultimately he could end all of that criticism by playing to his potential.
I didn't mention dropping him ...but he needs to be upgraded for the future side to succeed in 2024 and beyond

I'm having a shocker of a week to be honest ??

But am I being too negative with my points raised in the Live Game thread

Maybe our defence in the main was slightly better than our average 2022 performance ...but what else was better than 2022

Chance for the fans that can see the positives of todays performance to maybe steal us from the Dark side
Our backs had oodles more space to work in, there were a few times we shifted in our own 20 and made 30 metres. Naden finally got some space and was able to stretch his legs a bit, something we didn't see last year.
Our pack in defence had no problem driving them back. Our problem is mental. We atm are a mentally weak team, what I mean is we switch off too much. At the scrum. Under the bomb. All the real simple dropped ball. That's all the diffrence was, we just need to focus and maintain our composure under fatigue. The guys will get better, the one thing I wanted to see is how our new pack goes and they went great. Unfortunately I'm at the point till someone bites the bullet and we move Brooks on he will always stifle our attack. His kicking options and passing game and selection are no where good enough, his running game is dynamic bur I don't think it's enough to carry him anymore. I'd be on the hooter to Williams, I'd give Douhi 4 weeks to take charge, if he does I give him 3 more years otherwise I'm in the market for a new 5/8 as well. All in all we lost because of a few mental lapses. We will improve. Just not too sure about our backs ability to capitalise on the extra space they're given now time will tell.

For several years now I have questioned Luke Brooks leadership skills. More recently I've kept quiet about it but I still don't see anything there. Obviously, the coaching staff can see something I can't.
Serious question. Can anyone out there point to what I'm missing?
No I can’t see it either and think 10 years is more than enough time to give a player a chance to show their playing/leadership potential - hell 10 years is many players’ whole careers!

I just don’t understand the club’s persistence with this guy over such a long time. And it’s not just one coach, it’s been several. Sure Brooks is a loyal guy, obviously a good trainer and he’s an ok player, but if he can’t produce the goods on the field when it counts, why the continued persistence with him in such a vital role? I really don’t get it. The Titans eventually gave up on Ash Taylor when he wasn’t living up to his expensive price tag, why can’t we wake up too?

Sometimes players are just average, we need to accept it and move on. This OTT persistence with Brooks is really killing us, it’s certainly killing the fans! I nearly cried when we let Hastings go to Newcastle instead of Brooks. It was the perfect opportunity for both parties to part ways with something that hasn’t worked for a decade and finally move on.

Its probably a big call that I will be criticised for, but dare I say we win yesterday’s game with Hastings or even Wakeham partnering Doueihi in the halves.

I remember saying a few months ago my concern was our Rolls Royce pack was going to set platforms that our Datsun backline wouldn’t be able to finish off. That’s what happened.
We need to get the backline firing more like a Commodore and we’ll see some results.

Every team has started strong. I'm actually not that down about the performance compared to last year. We are improving but every team around us has also improved.

The standard of this competition is extremely high. With a much better distribution of talent, this will be a much more even competition.

Knights, Dragons, Tigers, Warriors and Bulldogs will be in the bottom 4 IMO.

The problem is not the Datsun's in the backline it is the Trabant at 7

Sadly, based on the last game our pack is more like Avtovaz, than Rolls Royce especially in the attack.

And this is coming from someone who was at the game, and was right in front of Laurie letting Mcintyre score. That's the kind of stuff that doesn't need to happen. The scores are much closer without that try, and the whole context of the game could have been different. We can't afford those errors. We win without them today. The other aspects of our game were good enough for round 1.
That error from Laurie was diabolical and should have him playing NSW cup next week.

Kepoa still can’t catch a ball . Doesn’t seem to matter where you play him . I’m sure we have less ( long term) error prone players in State Cup

Yep, I watched a few games across the weekend and the quality was good across a lot of them. Our game was a bit of the exception if I'm being honest , even dolphins stood up. But we move on.

Yeah. You're not going to win if you drop that amount of ball or run over the sideline with it.

We had 45 tackles in their 22,even if we hold the ball all the time it probably would only add 10 more tackles to the amount. We sucked so badly in our execution and variation we still would not have presented a problem for their defence imho.Compare that to the 8 tackles the Tits had in our 22.
The problem was our lack of penetration when it counted

It depends what sort of expectations you had.

But Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt, heavy favourites. It was easy money on the Titans IMO.
