Is the Biggest Problem the Halves or the Coaching?

Neither Brooks, Doueihi or Sheens are responsible for the poor attitudes and lazy ass efforts.

Not moving up in defence, standing around when not expecting the ball is just a lack of general effort. Has been the same through Taylor, Madge and now Sheens.

Get rid of some of the offenders and get some effort players in

Nah, Doueihi should be dropped altogether. Can't tackle. The rest I agree with.
I'd even go so far as to say that Doueihi lost us that game.

At least he got a try assist, shame it was for a Dog's try.

At best he can have another chance playing in the centres but definitely not at full back, it's either that or he can play KOE with Daine Laurie.

Brooks' needs to sort out his passing game and cut out the hospital passes and put the passes out in front and not behind the supports and he might go okay with Wakeham in the halves.

In the post game presser, Sheens was very tense when asked why he subbed Noffa off. He later relented a little by explaining that Doueihi hadn't trained all week, and only proved well enough to play during the captain's run. Throughout the week, Brooks and Wakeham have been training together, with Brooks at 6 and Wakeham at 7. Despite Doueihi's lack of preparation, Sheens still decided to pick him at 6. That is 100% the coaches fault.

Doueihi needs to be dropped to reserve grade. He is lacking confidence, and clearly won't play himself into confidence. His poor decision making in defence, creates uncertaining for both his inside and outside defenders. Opposition teams have been targeting Doueihi for a year now, as they know his defensive edge is brittle. Doueihi shouldn't be played at centre for the same defensive deficiencies.

Other forum posters have mentioned how Sheen's prefers quick halves. Doueihi is far from this mould. His one year contract extension is extremely puzzling. The team looks flat when he is the active playmaker, and he makes poor choices in attack whenever he is doing anything other than running the ball. Wakeham needs to partner Brooks in the halves. If Wakeham isn't picked, that is again, 100% the coaches fault.

Maybe it’s coz our backs coach can’t explain the correct set up and movement of the backline .
Three show and goes and a flick pass was BMs idea of structure.
I know that BM appeared to play that way - but he had the ability to do that because there was an underlying structure that enabled the second phase play. That is to say there was an underlying structure to what appeared to be random play.

Wakeman showed today, and against the Faders, that it isn't the game plan that's the problem...it is the ability our halves, Brookes and AD, to implement what they do at training. In contact and under pressure, they fail to execute. These are major flaws in halves.

AD and Brooks are quite simply out of their depth.

Wakeham is a reserve grade half in the big scheme of things; but, he came on and showed that he can play to the plan and that he has the ability to deliver the desired outcome. He has demonstrated that the gameplan can be delivered if you have the right mindset.

Execution needs to improve significantly and there are players out of their depth.

  • Twal. He is definitely trying to adapt and execute the plan but his skill level just isn't there. I think that he could be developed - but probably only to be a benchie at best.
  • AD. Is a centre in my book. There must be something that the coaching staff see that make them think he is a fullback. For mine - whatever the position he needs to rediscover it in reggies - not FG.
  • Brooks is a 5/8 - not a great one but the best we've got.
We don't have a lot of strike in the backline but I think that Wakeham at 7 is our best chance to deliver on the promised play that is "WT DNA".

Brooks was worse than a very bad Douiehi
No control, Poor defence and few hospital passes

Brooks is being paid half back money and they are trying to manufacture AD to be a half.
Piss off Brooks and let AD be a five eighth .

Wakeham may not be the answer but at least is kid a halfback.

Brooks has never been held accountable for a decade. Played putrid week after week and he knew his position was guaranteed. Either has photos or knows somebodies secrets But notice how today when another player came in and showed Brooks up in a matter of minutes, Brooks pulled his thumb out off his butt and actually tried a bit and for the last 20 mins looked at least like a reserve grader instead of his usual bumbling fool self. Not being held to account is a big reason Brooks has sucked for a decade. Now he knows someone is breathing down his neck gunning for his position we might actually see Brooks play to the best of his ability.... a sub par half.

I was surprised to see Nofoalooza hooked tbh
Doohey should’ve been the one hooked
18 point giveaway
only problem with hooking Douihie would have been Sheens was probably thinking he will come good with a run or kick or something. I think Douihie just tried too hard and had one of those games.
He was wrong but I guess next week Douihie to fullback

Another mistake, if Mamaulo is fit him and tupou should be on the wing with Staines at fullback. Doueihi doesnt score the last try Staines did even if he was in the right position, doesn't have the speed. I don't know if hes injured or what but he seems to be doing most things in slow motion at the moment. Our club has a knack of picking players purely because of their contract value instead of making hard decisions, he's either at centre or reserves for a bit in my opinion. I really hope he's not actually going to be played at fb

Brooks is the anchor… 10 years in and people can’t see it.
Ok running off a halfback… but our highest paid player to be a secondary guy?
Nah.

Perfect examples of people being played at contract level are Nofo and Brooks.
