The thing this club lacks more than anything, desire, comes out of Batemans pores. Same reason we should have got Finucane.

Don’t agree I am glad we missed out on finucane. He looks old and average this season! Glad the guppies are paying him the big dollars and not us.

This will clearly be an unpopular opinion as everyone is waxing lyrical about how excellent he was, but I wasn’t impressed with Bateman’s performance. Outside of the fluffed try, he didn’t contribute many run metres, had 4 errors, a ruck infringement, and a dumb penalty. He’ll need to do better than that moving forward. I admit there was effort and oppressive heat, but I didn’t see much worthwhile.

I dont think hes ever gonna be the player that delivers on stats like run meters, its more his sting in defense and the tough carries that he takes, plus his mongrel and never give up mentality which this club lacks so badly

I can’t believe he is playing about half the size that he was when he last played at Canberra.
I mean he has always been a small forward but he is just over 90kg at the moment.
But man he is strong regardless and a real tough competitor brought down Kikau a few times pretty easily.

Massive dud. He is a good player on reasonable dollars. He is being paid big dollars and he is pretty average.

Good game from Bateman. A professional's game and to think many on the forum were doubting his quality. I'm glad we have him aboard to teach our younger forwards.

I was one who was concerned about the signing, but glad to be proven wrong. His "ENERGY ,agression and football smarts in his first game were impressive.

I said it was a risky signing. He was awesome.

He's added speed and attitude, to a sometimes slow and very predictable set of forwards. I hope it rubs off on the others.
