Luke Brooks #167

Unless someone comes on here who has inside info and proves he is a knob we just have to judge him on his footy ability.

I'm surprised that he is being rated so highly on here though. He didn't win us games last year and apparently any halfback would win us games. I've seen him a bit this year and he hasn't looked very creative either.

I think this is another player who is rated way more highly than he should be because of the forum favorite.
Not sure about anyone else, I was all for keeping Brooks over Hastings, in my eyes this year would always be his year to prove himself, we got a pack for him to play behind and being a contract year he had to fire with no excuses. Unfortunately it hasn't worked and imo Brooks is in over his head in the N.R.L. Can he do a job, sure. As long as he doesn't have to shoulder responsibility. He will never win a comp. Iv been making excuses for him for years, with this year's pack my final excuse for him is gone. I wish he worked out, he's been a 10 year veteran but he just hasn't. That's why now I can admit I was wrong and we should have bitten the Knights hands off to take him when they wanted him and kept Hastings, the club stuffed up big time. Hastings is a leader on th field, doesn't shy away from the responsibility and always commands the ball. It is Infinately easier to find a running half. A controlling ball playing half is so much more rare. That's exactly what we need now. With the way our pack is going I reckon Hastings lack of speed wouldn't have been an issue, he would have so much more room to work in.

This is actually a good post. I would have kept Hastings and made Brooks and Doueihi fight it out for the 6 spot where I think they are more suited. I haven't seen Hastings playing that well though so I'm okay they let him go.

I think Brooks big problem is that he doesn't nail big moments enough. The pass from IP last week that he missed was the issue for me. He played good. He is creating points. Other players stuffed up as well. It's just that we need someone who wins us games off their own back and he isn't that player.

I also don't think will get that player either. It's going to be a slow slog up the ladder.

Shouldn’t have sacked McGuire. The only guy calling them out for being garbage. It is so painful watching our boys play. I’m winning same game Multis against the tigers. The only positive

No Brooks fan, but that is 100% right. Don't mistake the media as your friend because they are finally saying what we have been saying for years, they are carrion eating scum, worse than politicians.
I dont care if your a Brooks fan or not, please dont play the mental health card as an excuse for poor performance...35 years ago I was called a wog, greaser and spic because I played for Turvey Park R,L,F,C in Wagga wagga, I got paid $50 bucks a win and had a 40 hour a week job...these so called NRL heros get paid in the Thousands if not Millions....if you cant handle the heat go get a job out of the public eye,,,this mental health card is only an excuse when things dont go your way especially with the paycheck they collect....sorry for being a little non human, but if your gunna take the money, perform or take the criticism that goes with it ...

L B is giving away free stuff on the Rainbows Lollipops n Sunshine thread-if your interested

Looking forward to seeing the team lists today.
Also looking forward to seeing who Broncos replace Mam with? Hope Madden gets a shot, hes been carving up in cup. This is a huge game Broncos vs Rabbitohs.

Everyone wanted him gone and everyone was wrong. It's the same as Brooksy.

Everyone needs to realize that we need better cattle on the park and there isn't some magic want to wave to improve the team. It's recruitment, retention and development consistently over time along with top quality coaching.

It's going to take a grind and good decisions consistently over time.

Turvey Park Lions. Gone but not forgotten. Best backline ever in Country League in the 70s. Greg Brentnall, Adrian Fury, Peter Mortimer, John Young (Kiwi cc), Peter Eisenhauer, Noel Murray, Steve Mortimer.

Hey TT,

I also played for Turvey Park when I was posted to 1RTB. Greg Brentnall was coach at the time and Merve? was there in support (and at the bar in the Turvey Tavern).. Loved that club - shame it has gone.

Cheers

I feel for Brooks, really I do, I'm one of his harshest critics, that'd only cause we all know the potential is there he just isn't suited to what we need now. What we need right now is an Adam Douhi who ball plays and doesn't run. An on field general. Brooks abilities are to just go with the flow of the game and play what he sees. Where the Tigers have failed is its been clear for ages he was like that but every coach bar Cleary has tried to readjust his game to make him a leader but he doesn't have the temperament for it. You are born with it, you are a leader or your not it can't be taught. Brooks suffered because the club have tried to force a square peg into a round hole. The frustration lies in Brooks not even looking like he has developed and at the moment looking like a broken player. This is all on the Tigers though, if it's true he asked for a release twice and was refused its on the club. If he didn't ask then the club should have told him to go for his well being when Newcastle were interested, for his own good. No matter the cost, were still paying mow are are in a bad spot anyway. At the end of the day I'll criticise the guy but I don't wish harm on anyone noone on this forum does, we just passionately want to win. What the Tigers have done in this situation is diabolical to this guy. At the end of the day he is a human being not a piece of 💩. The moment he asked for a release or the club caught wind Newcastle were interested we should have paid him to go. It's not about football it's about his well being, he looks miserable, I'm concerned for his mental health.

It's not good. I disagree that he is that bad as well. He is doing heaps of good stuff out there with very few errors. He is only being judged so harshly because the expectations are for him to be a marquee player.

He completely outplayed Doueihi the last 2 seasons and I was all in on the Doueihi train. The excuse was injury but everyone else gets an excuse excluding Brooks. Hastings last year was I think our best half and he was much more a game manager. He wasn't though much better than Brooks and I'm starting to think it was just his style of play. We didn't win many games with him here. I've watched Hastings this year and he is getting his trumpet overblown nearly as much as the criticism of Brooks is way over the top.

I hope he goes this year and gives some club a good 3 to 4 years service in a decent team. If he isn't the main guy I think he'll go well.

Hey Jolls...Greg Hawick was my coach to start with,he was hard but fair,he played 5/8 for Aust in 1958,he was a good man...Merve was a good hearted guy and took in a player when he had no accomadation, unfortunately he stabbed Merve to death in an arguement one night, back in the 90s sometime...Brentnall was a very talented footballer he playedLeague with Turvey and also first grade Aussie rules with Turvey as well...I lived and worked at the Tavern from 1980/86...
Good to hear from you Jolls..keep in touch...

Hey Bulla.I was mates with Adrian and IKE(Eisenhaurs nick name)met Peter and Steve Mortimer on many occasions and had beers with them at the Tavern, some very good players from that club,Chris Mortimer and I knew each other through the pubs he owned and I ran.he would cut players in half with his tackling technique,he was I think rated one of the top tacklers in the NRL back in his day...cheers mate good to hear from you...keep in touch...

“everyone else gets an excuse excluding Brooks.”
Complete rubbish he’s had 10 years of excuses and now the final one of no decent pack to play behind has finally been crossed off. We all knew he was the shite one when the other three left and the club has been clinging ever since praying a 7 would emerge, 2018 dally m was a smoke screen trap and he got yet another contract and a new coach saying they could fix him, how about we get a good 7 that doesn’t need to be fixed after 10 years.
Sorry I don’t usually call it out like that but seriously some of your posts about Luke’s greatness are complete rubbish. Is it tongue in cheek?

I reckon we should get the remaining 29 players (except Douhie) to play rock scissors paper and the one that wins is Luke’s new replacement, coz I reckon if you got enough skill to beat 29 players at rock scissors paper than you got enough skills to be better than Luke at 7.

Just read through a few anti Brooksy posts here guys and thinking he has run over everyone’s cat?
Because when I look at the stats on NRL halfbacks it seems we have an ok number 7?
Some of the crap put on here to justify the hatred is just plain wrong.
Check your facts people before joining the Congo line and singing to the tune. 😂
