Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Something is not right with them this season to drop off like they have. They’ve had a few injuries but still look good on paper. Hiku, Townsend, Nanai, Hess the biggest dips in form.
Hiku and Hess’s form have always been up and down like a yo-yo and Nanai is just learning from some of the best bludgers in the nrl, he should’ve signed with us “the development club” he could be learning off API, Klem, Papi, and Bates.
And hopefully Chad is like, “Nans, I’m going to the Tigers who couldn’t win games with that pack of animals? Oh yeah, well they do have this one bloke but they’re replacing him with a proper 7”. Young Nans be like “I’ve a contract?”, and Chad laughs and say’s “what’s that these days, just sign and agitate, with mental health, play with ya tigers mates, and take 200k a year less coz it’s probably your best chance to win a GF”.

Every 1 saying townsand is no good and we don’t need him if I had asked you 6 months ago when cowboys were flying every 1 jumps at the opportunity but now they are struggling and have lost a few games nah we don’t want it

He’s still the same person he’s still playing at he same level he’s still the same consistent steady halfback we need

This year we've recruited well in the forwards but very little in the backs so what I feel is this
- it is every player in Cup and Flegg dream to play at NRL level
- it is EXTREMELY difficult to get good performing backs who are already at NRL level to want to come to Concord .We are Spooners and regarded as a bit of a pariah
- therefore target those at Cup /flegg level but don't limit ourselves to just our Pathways teams . Pick the top half's and centers from the top clubs .
This gives us more chance of recruiting Quality and we sure need a couple of good backs

There's some good players in cup.
Let's give em the chance of living the first grade dream.

Agree, I would give him a one possibly two year contract. If he is poo after one year, KOE Cup him. Don't pay overs for him. Surely there must be a young 18-19 year old pair of halves we are grooming from within.

Also, we still need to go after Jordan Abdull. He's the best half in the premier competition.
Imagine how good he'd be in a tier two comp. like the NRL.
England are playing France this weekend and he would've been the backup for George Williams if he didn't pull out.

Brooks is at a crossroads.

Isn't getting any younger/ can't get any better.

Better for all parties if he just takes whatever super league deal he can get and try and finish his career with some kind of dignity.
If he was a gee gee, he would be glue or at a pony club somewhere by now.

This is gold. So he has been subjected to racial abuse and you attack him.

Weren't you the guy who stated recently how you can't wait for this stuff to be out of society but your context was when people stop complaining about racism. So it's cool to be a racist but it's not cool to call it out.

The talk is for Townsend to PARTNER Brooks in the halves with Brooks resigning on a reduced salary (could be as low as $450k). So two halves for the price of one (supposedly). The question is, regardless who is 5/8th is Townsend the answer?
Not on last nights game he isn't. Had a shocker!

Very unlikely Ben Hunt will be at the dragons in 2024, let alone to end the year

Hunt is a 20x better short term option and we’re probably one of the only teams who’ll pay his salary as well

No brainer imo

This is the best option available. If it's for next year we really should have a shot. Hunt at 7 and Brooks at 6 would give us some firepower. If we could pick up a gun centre and resign Staines for reasonable dollars we'd look a lot better.

Eels Waqa Blake is on the verge of joining the Western Force in Super Rugby.
Wide World of Sports had reported that Blake is in danger of being squeezed out of Parramatta by salary cap pressure.

Mate, where did this sad little obsession with Luke Brooks come from? Unless this is a troll account, it's hard to believe you, let alone anyone actually backs this guy whilst openly posting on a forum. He's a joke, everyone that watches league thinks it and everyone on this forum does to.

For the first time in many decades there are a number of extremely talented young halfbacks currently plying their trade in SL. I've already stated that Lewis Dodd is a freakish talent but there are others including Harry Smith at Wigan, Mikey Lewis at Hull Kingston Rovers and Will Pryce - who will be joining the Knights next season. Lewis is the most off-the-cuff and instinctual of the group. Quick, elusive and with a real competitive edge that would instantly make him a fan favourite. Smith is the most structured with a superb kicking game (which doesn't fall apart under pressure) and fast hands. Dodd has the strengths of both with an outstanding organizational brain, freakish self-confidence and a defensive game which makes him very difficult to target as the weak link most halves can often be. Pryce is the son of Leon - an superb full-back and stand-off who played many games for Great Britain. Of all of these he is unquestionably the most dangerous runner - particularly in broken-field situations where his explosive acceleration and foot speed terrorize defences. He lacks the organizational brain of Dodd and Smith in particular - but when you are that athletic it's far less of a problem.

All of these kids are between the ages of 18 and 20 and have many years of production in front of them. Whilst Dodd, Lewis and Smith are all under contract it should be possible for a clever recruiter to broker a deal providing the SL clubs are being reimbursed with appropriate value. Obviously money talks. But money isn't going to fill the void left by them leaving. Top halfbacks are incredibly rare and the selling clubs will find it difficult to replace such talent. I believe the trick would be to devise some kind of deal which would see any transfer fee supported by young talent going the opposite way. The NRL has a huge production line of extremely capable young players who often struggle to break into the first team because there are no slots available. Eventually they become jaded and disillusioned with playing lower grade football and drift out of the game. If some means by which such talent could be sent over to SL where they could gain first team experience and develop over a year or two before returning I think it would be possible to create a mutually beneficial relationship between the NRL and SL. Because simply barging into a SL club with a wad of cash and cherry picking the best talent without giving up something in return is just going to annoy the clubs and make recruitment that much more difficult.
