Jury Duty

Just been advised im on the jury roll for the next 12 months, I may be called during that time

Piss poor pay ...$106 for the first ten days then $247 per day from day 11 onwards

Anyone here been called, any interesting stories, cases etc?
Ive been called up to jury duty 9 times.

3 times in the 90s. Back before the internet court portal you had to call the courthouse to see if the case is going ahead. All 3 times it was cancelled so got out of it, pretty annoying as you dont know if you are going so you plan to go and then it gets cancelled and that screws with your work week as you have made plans for replacement workers/cancelled appointments/meetings etc. I could have got out of it through my medical practice but I wanted to go for the experience and see what it was all about.

Got a letter in the mid 2000s saying I was back on the roll. The same thing happened. 3 cases, all 3 were cancelled when checked the day before.

Got a letter in 2019 or 2020 cant remember exactly, saying I was on the roll again, due to COVID I was in Australia with family when lockdown happened. I frequent between, AUS, the US and the UK most times throughout the year, still have a residence/license etc in AUS so thats how they got me. During this period I stayed in Australia for about a year. 2 times the case was cancelled due to COVID and the court not being held, the 3rd time I was completely over it and got a Dr Certificate excusing me from Jury duty for the duration of the roll.....100% legit

Probably be dead by the next time my name comes up. So out of 9 times, I never went.

Theres really only a simple choice, either go for the experience of it, thats all it is, you are inconvenienced and the pay will cover your parking, it wont go anywhere near the loss of a days work etc its a a complete hassle / or if you want to get out of it, go see your GP about your ailments, tell him that you cant sit down for 6 hours straight because of your blood flow.....or whatever you can cough cough come up with and the GP will write you an exemption for 12 months. Done all day everyday.

Turn up under the influence (or pretend to be if it's not your go,) or appear unhinged.

I got called up years ago & didn't go SMH.
Regret it now because it would have been
Interesting. I can't go now due to my record

One time I worked on an important Project, and got a letter from the company I worked for, the other time I was recovering from a surgery, then injured my lower back so I could not sit still for extended periods.
