Luke Brooks #167

so we are trying to get rid of nofo and brooks which im ok with but whats the plan ?
to replace them with youth or does sheens have another plan cause from what i see we dont have a half for 24 and theres not much off contract

I think he did the wise thing, just k IVI back a pathetic offer. Maybe tabled to just appease those with hate for him. He is not best half we all know. But he is the best avaialable. Is there someone that can compliment him? Will need that person anyway. Easier to replace 1 than 2. Right now I don’t see it. Easier to replace Wakeham and AD is def not the answer.

All the names mentioned are worth no more than 300, and as a comparison then Brooks is worth 750. Thought to the Roosters and Parra is worth a lot more. Especially the Roosters! There he will get 900+ and a premiership!

Finally a quote, as I only found out about this when reading this thread just now, and had been wondering what all the fuss was about based on the initial article posted.

Is there actually any reason to truly believe that Brooks has said he is leaving the club, or just that he has knocked back our initial offer, as I haven't seen it?

No one

1. Interesting that Brooks rang Benji not TS about rejecting the initial offer and,
2. If there is no counter offer from us I can see him sitting out more than injury recovery time.
3. Is TS going or staying? And did the board use the Fulton/ McDonnell scenario to force Tim out, given the McD appointment was part of the deal when Sheens came back ?
4. Who are those in the club suggesting Brooks should be allowed to walk ? The board, the coaches ??
More Tigers in fighting, why does this keep happening ? It’s being going on one way or another forever.

🤔🤔🤔

Not sure the expectations was he'd knock it back. I posted a few weeks ago that the club low balled him due to the belief there were few other suitors, not due to not wanting to retain him.
I haven't heard an update from the guy I was speaking to about it, (maybe Brooks has in fact said he is leaving) but I'd guess all that has happened thus far is Brooks rejected the first offer. And whilst I was told negotiations have stalled, I was given the impression they remained ongoing
I've done my best to be supportive of him but I'm done. He isn't a leader, kicks are useless; and couldn't organise a poo in the toilet. Give him to Newcastle
After 11 years as part of the furniture he “rings” Benji - that says it all, couldn’t front up personally to deliver the message.
He has struggled to call the shots here, he’ll need to find his voice if he goes elsewhere. As far as being low-balled, I think 500k per season is overs based on what he has achieved (or not) in a game management position. We had to throw the kitchen sink at Mitchell Moses as a game manager to cover … it’s been 11 years of firefighting to compensate for Brooks’ shortcomings.
His form the past month has been great but is this just him being selfish - knowing he’s decided to hit the open market?
Btw make sure your shirt is neatly pressed as you trudge off to your $60k a year job tomorrow morning but don’t think for a moment that you’ve been low-balled!

"The offer made by the club has been formally rejected. But that doesn't necessarily mean the door is closed. If Luke or his manager came to us with a proposal it would receive proper consideration."

They should have offered 700k - there’s no one to replace him. Who knows what they offered, but I bet it was quite low.

It's not that simple. We have to look at the longer term implications of signings. Joe O was let go because the longer term implications of carrying that contract on our books. The last Nofo contract was drawn out significantly and we are now carrying Nofo on overs and it impacts our ability to retain juniors or recruit new signings.

We have to at some point draw a line in all contract negotiations. I want Brooks retained on dollars that suit us rather than dollars that suit him and his manager. If there was a middle ground that is fair that is fine and that might still happen but we should not get into a bidding war.

This is my question also. Has Brooks said he is leaving or that he won’t accept the current offer?

Hope you’re right.

Lee seemed to confirm he's leaving:

“It would have been very nice to have seen him play out his career at the Wests Tigers. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be."
- Lee Hagipantelis
Didn't Lee H say the rejection wouldn't stop WT from putting forward an improved offer?

Brooks has been alright because;

1) It's contract season &
2) Api is the one directing the team around, taking a lot of pressure off Brooks.

Even if 500k a year is insulting, his performances over the years for the reported salary (800k - 1m) are much more insulting.

Very interested to see how this plays out.
We paid Mbye 900k a season - hopefully we've learnt from these things & the club holds strong and makes the right call.
WHAT!!!

I thought we paid Mbye 750k a season with the Dogs freighting the first 250k. Did we really go 900k?

We could really have afforded both Morris twins for that price... . I am sorry I need a bourbon to digest this.

But yes, Brooks is giving better value at the moment. He however has squatted the NR7. Api and others are doing their bit but we need to look elsewhere.

the dream: we get DCE for the money we offered Moses (or more).

The reality: Sheens has been in the UK. We don't sign Brooks it's probably Brodie Croft or some other hasbeens. I am kinda okay-ish with this because I think we should drive from the front row. Sign Frizell or some other forward powerhouse. If we don't win, at least we will be feared.
