Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Are you reliving your childhood?

I reckon his coaching is rubbing off. I noticed us not finding touch this season again…
Were you a child in 2005?

Or were you even a zygote?

That was the first top grade Premiership either joint-venture team had won since 1969!!

It is not a mean feat - and the architects of that Premiership deserve better than what this administration has consistently dished out to them and to the supporter base!!

John Bateman has never been on a team that has received a wooden spoon, and he doesn’t intend to give up that record this year.
In the England international’s first season at the Wests Tigers, the club has been plagued by off-field turmoil, on-field shortcomings and an ANZAC Day jersey bungle. But if they are to turn things around, Thursday night’s clash against fellow strugglers the Dragons is the place to start, said Bateman.
“It’s been tough times,” Bateman said. “We haven’t been able to get a win and stuff like that. To me, obviously, I think you watch me week in and week out, and I’m pretty competitive - I want to go out there and get the win.
“It’s a massive, massive week for us this week, obviously, playing the Dragons just above us. And no doubt about it, no one wants to finish at the bottom of the league, so that’s the exact same for ourselves. We need to go out there and get the win this weekend.”

With 206 Super League games under his belt, and a 2019 grand final appearance with the Canberra Raiders, Bateman has had his fair share of success. But never has he been part of a team that’s finished at the bottom of the ladder.
“Never. I don’t want to either. As simple as that,” Bateman said.

The Tigers have won just three of their 17 games this year and sit last on the ladder with just seven weeks to go. Injuries to skipper Api Koroisau and Luke Brooks further derailed their season.
“It’s about working hard. Things aren’t going well for us this year, obviously injuries, etcetera. We put a decent little patch together throughout the year, but we’ve just for some reason not been getting the wins over the line,” Bateman said. “The last couple of weeks have not been acceptable as a playing standard and as a club.”

Off-field drama at the club was close to breaking point on Sunday, with tension between assistant coach Benji Marshall and recruitment manager Scott Fulton continuing to highlight the lack of cohesion at the joint venture.
Marshall’s manager was moved to deny what he believed was a suggestion his client owned a share in the management company trying to lure Aidan Sezer to the club.
But Bateman said the team weren’t bothered by the ructions in the front office.
“You hear whispers. We [the team] had a little bit of a chat this morning, and that is literally the first I’ve heard about it,” Bateman said.

“That’s not my job at the end of the day. My job is on the field, and at the moment, we’re not doing our jobs, so we need to focus on that. When the noise surrounds certain areas and stuff, that’s [for] the people in the board area. They need to sort that out.
“The boys are a bit blase about it all - like you’ve got to be in this game. Obviously, you can’t let stuff get to you because if you do that, you’re too busy worrying about that than worrying about what our job is.”
I think this is why sheen’s wanted him

We know he has ability & experience, so no reason why Sheens/Benji cannot get him back to his best (being a development club 😉).
Good point. We look more like a backwards club that players escape so they can develop.

Where is the developing? Bula is a success story and I'm sure he'll make a great Roosters fullback once teddy bails out. But what about the three-quarters? It would be nice to see their defence develop.

We are the only team that doesn't bother scrambling in defence. If the other team create a good shape in the backs our boys just go "Not again" and stop trying, and they drop their heads when they get dud decisions.

If Sheens and Benji are serious about developing players, they need to address the mental game because, for some years, the Tigers have had easily the most fragile and weak mental game in the comp. It doesn't matter who we sign if we don't weed out the chokers.

I actually thought Lee was doing a pretty good job of answering their questions

So did I - didn't take their crap - the sooks on 360 didn't have any answers and had to wait for Hagi to go before they put the boot in - typical lowlife media.

Thing is that it made sense.. everyone is bagging Lee and I usually do but I thought he did ok tonight. At least he showed some passion .. benji seems to have a vision and Braith appears to have bought in .. hopefully Scott will and things can flow from here
The interesting thing was the two panel members who actually played football could see what WT are trying to do while the 2 muppets who have never set foot on a football field continued their usual " we hate WT crap". Rothfield banging on about Fainu and why waste money on Sezer. Tallis who i think might know a bit more about football than the drunkard stops him with WT need experience in the halves. He alluded to the fact that Brisbane had to do the same thing to turn things around. But as usual just looking at todays papers the muppets have just totally ignored what was said and just put their usual spin on it.

Braith and Benji are best mates....
I'm no Lee fan, But was interested to hear his take on the Brooks thing....
I thought the board were idiots for putting a deadline on Brooks, But they were getting played - The deadline just called him out....

From Lees' mouth just now,
They made Brooks an offer, Which was knocked back
The offer was revised (I can't remember the exact words he used) But I think it was "that it would be received favourably" (Or some such)
To me that means, They've thrown the initial offer, Moses has come back and said "No it needs to be this" so We've upped it to what was requested.
Moses has had the offer that he requested for weeks with no correspondence, I assume the club has wind of the Manly discussions... and requested the deadline.
Manly deal is done and we got knocked back.

Brooks was never staying, And that's fair play....
But the club was getting played by Moses again, They just bought it to a head - Again...
I'm glad they showed something...
Agree - it is obvious now that Moses only wanted us to up our offer so he could show Manly and force them to offer what they did.

Gus visited the brother in gaol on the weekend, we are long shots now
Gus is an absolute low life - didn't visit the guy the whole time he has been in prison but now suddenly does so and announces it the world at the same time the other Fainus become available. No doubt it will be portrayed as an act of compassion rather than the opportunistic gutter play that it is.

Whether I like Gould or not, he walks the walk and takes action, at Wests Tigers we talk the talk and that’s why nothing gets done. You got to do what you go to do to get a deal done. That is why Gould gets his man. We just sit around in a circle and sing ‘kum by yar’ Come on Tigers get off your asses and take action. Time to walk the walk! Well that’s only if you want success!

It is such a simple play by Gould yet will carry much weight at the negotiating table.
Exactly like how Souths looked after Shaq Mitchell to keep Latrell onside.
It is a very American philosophy to recruitment…look after the family and the big fish will trust you.
We don’t seem to ever employ such strategy.

We cannot even retain the ones we want let alone sign external players.

If I'm been honest, I would have not problems if we went and signed a few players on overs just to get the ball rolling just like Gus did.. This will help win games and make us attractive as I am over losing and been the media punching bag. We clearly have money so shy not spend it you clowns

We have the last few weeks. Sione Fainu suddenly getting a start in NSW Cup.

I think that is blatantly obvious though and I'm sure they won't forget he was 18th man for NSW Cup earlier in the year.

Again, just shows there is no plan.
