We really needed 400 to be comfortable; however, if we can edge close to 350 with the last two wickets I will be a happy camper. We lack the quality bowling attack we need without Lyons; however, we have the ability to rotate bowlers depending on the conditions and how the Poms are going. Time will tell but I think it is very much in the balance at this stage.Poisitives = we hit 299 runs on the first day
Negatives = quite a few players got set and didn’t go on with it. Lost 8 wickets.
I reckon England would be happiest after day one.
We will need to bowl well if we want a first innings lead.
With the team we named 400 would have been the target, and although it was a very even contest over the day, the Poms really had the momentum at the end and they would be cheering while Oz are trying to eek out enough runs to justify a good first innings. We really needed 400 to be comfortable; however, if we can edge close to 350 with the last two wickets I will be a happy camper. It’s supposed to rain a lot on days 4 and 5. Pretty important for Starc and Postman Pat to take some more time and runs. England will go ballistic - they may have to declare late day 2 or early day 3 to have a chance.
We are a hundred short of what’s a par score on that track. Starc and Cummins get another 40 we will have something to bowl at but no spinner will make our attack predictable. Sadly no one is prepared to grind out a innings of noteWe really needed 400 to be comfortable; however, if we can edge close to 350 with the last two wickets I will be a happy camper. You're right.Disappointing so many got starts but no real big knocks
Kwahaja got out early that's rare for him but can happen but I thought Green looked our worst .He looks nervy hardly middled a ball unlucky umpires call got him
Their spinner got very good turn day 1 .Starting to think maybe should have left Green out and played Murphy
You should always have a spinner even on a greentop as it provides variation to the attack imoYou're right.
Going into a 5 day test without a spinner is just wrong.
Forcast suggests this won’t be a 5 day test. You're right.

Yeah I reckon Cummins was too soft to drop one of green or marsh. Having said that, Murphy was underwheling but haven’t watched much of him to be fair. You should always have a spinner even on a greentop as it provides variation to the attack imo
Imo we will be lucky to get another 10-20.We are a hundred short of what’s a par score on that track. Starc and Cummins get another 40 we will have something to bowl at but no spinner will make our attack predictable. Sadly no one is prepared to grind out a innings of note
Yep, that’s why I’m glad the spinner is not playing. They will target him and their scores will increase rapidly. It’s supposed to rain a lot on days 4 and 5. Usually I would totally agree with this, but Patty doesn’t know how to captain a spinner and now lacks the confidence to use the spinner at all, and if you’re not using him in the last innings in the last game then why have one?You should always have a spinner even on a greentop as it provides variation to the attack imo
Just about on the money Hal.Imo we will be lucky to get another 10-20.
Our bowlers will be under some huge pressure later today thanks to the top 5 not going on with it.
