Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I can't see him getting that 500k again unless someone is willing to play him at fullback. I really like him as a player though and I hope we can get a deal done.

Nofo on 500k is a nightmare.
As a winger, he is definitely not worth $500k, but consider this.

We actually have no backup for Bula. I feel having Staines there would be adequate cover for next season. Maybe $450k?

When watching TCN 9 news tonight they were talking about Hines,
And his disapointment as to his being dropped out of SOO and how it has affected his confidence ever since.
& showed him scoring a try, and what try did they show, to let us see what a good player he is,
Low and behold the try he scored that should have been not allowed, where he was tackled before the line, arm on ground with ball in it, then he lifts arm off ground and extends arm to put ball down over line, try awarded, I dont even remember if it went upstairs to video referee, definately double movement.

Sorry fella's it just amazes me how many times.

And Annesley verified wightons pass was forward.

Luke Thompson- I like him. Hard worker. I assume he'd be 13. The Wests Tigers cannot be 'too professional' after so many years of...let's call it enigmatic behaviour on field.

Has to be over his injuries of course. And if it was a choice between Thompson & Aitasi James + Seyfarth...Thompson is the better player.

If this is true, it tells me that some of our current roster are not as locked in as thought.

Tells me Mario Tartak has got us by the short and curly's

Ngutlik... I'll admit, kinda forgotten about him. He's actually the bigger body we need. If he's even close to breaking into our squad, given the competition for our wing...he could be the guy.

Re-signing Staines is important. As pointed out earlier, he additionally provides depth at fullback, while giving us a no-deadbeat option on the wing.

I don't think we will move Nofa, unless it's to the UK. That said, if we get "Invested Nofa" instead of the "not really interested" version, he is an effective option (other than questionable defence). He's safer under kicks than given credit for.

I've defended Kepaoa often. I think there is a player there, if you can unearth it. Unless we can sign another outside back, I'll assume he stays in the mix. He's such a big unit. I think he just needs to be given 1 spot & told to work on that. Versatility is killing him.

To'a is a popular player, and I get it. But he's an 'arm waver'. I hate that. A guy is tackled. To'a is behind him acting like one of those inflatable gumby humanoid balloons, more focused on trying to convince Jeff in row 26 that there's a penalty to be had. Get your head in the game! It's just an attitude thing for me.

Tupou is the real keeper- either on the wing or in the centres. But there are some bonehead moments in his game still. I want to believe age will ween that out...

Question regarding Pearce/Sezar.

If the Tigers actually have Sullivan signed, and Fainu, and instead of signing Pearce/Sezar they signed Connor Watson (linked) or even Drew Hutchison, who offer versatility to play 9 or 13 as well as 6/7...would that be better use of the finances?

Doueihi, Hawkins & maybe add Wakeham/Smith on a T&T type contract. I'm of the belief, like the young 5/8 at the Dolphins, that Fainu is probably close enough to ready. Do we deal with the struggles in 2024 as Sullivan & Fainu learn how to run the team, along with Api? Or are we thinking Pearce/Sezar can get us close to the 8 with Api?

Watson can play 6, or 14, or 13 even. Hutchison has played games at 7 & 6 for the Roosters, but has the body of a 13. So if the 2 youngsters struggle, you still have that extra guy on the team to take some of the pressure off.

3 genuine halves, or 2 halves & 2-3 guys that can cover other positions?

I used to think the same with nofa but these last couple games have convinced me that he's physically past it, it's no longer a matter of him being good if he shows up motivated.

There have been a bunch of instances where he's clearly too slow and he was visibly exhausted halfway though the raiders game.

I doubt we can offload him but we should if we can, I think we're probably going to end up needing to grit our teeth and just use him as a expensive backup winger

I wonder if he'll even get that amount but hopefully we get a deal done. The thing is we have Nofo on 500k as well. That is a massive investment in wingers who aren't top tier.
