Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Who? I think we have enough lottery tickets for the future…we need experience and at least proven NRL capable players for the backline
I do agree with you, an experienced outside back is what we need.

Just putting it out there re. Tartak/Crown given the Thompson links. I know that Kalo Kalo was highly regarded but must be injured/fallen off the radar.

I'm not sure that whether they did the wrong or right thing is the issue. I think many people would be wondering about the club's inability to be decisive on such matters?
I wonder if the issue is a result of the committee decision making process. We've all heard the story "whose job is it anyway" about a committee of 4 people named everybody, somebody, anybody and nobody..

In 2019 we finished 9th.
2020 11th.
2021 13th.
2022 16th.
2023 looking like 17th.
2024 ? we're hoping there isnt an 18th team, because it could be us!
We can't blame this slide on Maguire for the next 10 years.

Some part of our future success (which hopefully commences in 2024) can be attributed to Maguire getting our salary cap back in order. He had a shocking team/s to work with. He could/should have done better with the cattle he had, but should also be thanked for leaving the cap in a better state than when he found it.

It looks like all the teams down the bottom are struggling to get to the top again. Even the Dogs, with their "astute" accounting practices, are finding it hard to climb the ladder to relevance.

Don’t worry the dogs have only just started, they will buy their way off the bottom

It means that we are being manipulated by Tartak who is taking advantage of a club who can't recruit and is using that to get deals for his clients that other clubs want off their books.
He can ask the question, and we can tell him no. It's not in the best interests of the club, nor the players he has at the club to waste a precious top 30 spot on an injury prone forward when we have so many other positions that need addressing.

Maguire was never the reason we were going backwards. He was made the scapegoat for that and since he was sacked we have gone from gradually going backwards to anchored on the bottom of the table.

He was sacked largely because of our poor start with 3 wins from 12 in 2022. The facts are since then we have won 4 out of 32 games. I'm not sure there has ever been a team with a lower win % over 32 games.

Maguire did some good things but he did have some issues. His bench rotation wasn't Greta and he wanted to play a forward dominant game plan when we didn't have the forwards. He needed to plan to the team he had and not what he wanted.

Ironically, this year we have the forwards to do that, but the management panicked, just like they did when signing Fulton without telling Benji/Sheens.

Yes but as we all know the key metric to success is how many hats Pascoe sold between 2019 & 2023. I bet we're in the top 4 hat merchandisers.

What were the good things?

Ultimately, madge didn't have player buy in, could not identify juniors for the life of him and couldn't recruit good players. Receipe for disaster.

He annoys me too with his mates always pushing him in the media.

Hard to see them moving him on
- Unless he's busted and they're not telling anyone...
Or fallen out with one of the golden boys.

There was a media rumour last week Storm aren’t happy with his form…he might be the one to make way when Pap is back.

Edit - I see he is already playing Reggie’s..
