2027 looks promising 🤣

It works opposite to your reasoning, If club and player are living in a world where they're both happy
- Then it doesn't need an option, It's just another contract or an extension.... Which happens more often than 'Mutual options' are ever actioned.

I can appreciate that's what you think (I've asked the question multiple times - to make sure I have it right)
- But the following came from the lips of a Football Manager at another club last week....

If the club is happy with the deal (Getting value for money) and want's to trigger it - They can,
And the Player is bound to it.
If the Player is playing like a busted and getting overpaid, He can trigger it and the club has to wear it....

If neither is happy, ie: the club thinks they're overpaying - Or the player thinks he's underpaid...
It might result in no one triggering it.

But a 'Mutual Option' is the option that can can be be triggered by either party...
Not both - Either.
That’s how I understand it. Cheers.

I just broke down the squad for next season and added unsigned players who hopefully we do or have signed.

Does this look bad to everyone.

My thoughts are:-

1. The forward pack is okay and potentially very good but the depth is really poor. The depth forwards don't look very likely at all. I like the bench forwards but we lack a lock forward who can ball play. Matamua or Seyfarth can do that but they struggle making the team. Seyfarth isn't even in that squad.
2. Our outside backs aren't great. To'a and Tupou can make a bust. Staines if signed is quick. The depth outside backs are okay but it's not like they are going to move the needle.
3. We appear to have too many depth utility players but I don't see how you get rid of them.

At best we may go okay but we can't have guys that we are expecting to be great not being consistently very very good. All of our forwards including Stef, Kleemer, Bateman and IP will need to perform consistently very well. Our halves will have to fire and our outside backs in particular To'a and Tupou will really need to improve.

Another thing is the following players may need to be found a spot in the top 30:-

* Xavier Willlison -- just a rumour
* Alex Seyfarth
* Chris Faagutu
* Kit Laulilii
* Aitasi James

I can't see how we release any players in the top 30 though. It'll be hard to move them on.

I don’t have much confidence of this squad getting the team any higher than 14th, and the wooden spoon is a possibility once more..

The depth is terrible once again and will be exposed half way through the season ..

Young players like Fainu and De Slva are going to have to step up…but its hard to be confident of them having much of an impact next season…

I really hope that 3-4 of these guys are moved on and they sign Staines…

Good compile.

I think the coaching staff will be banking on big pre-seasons for Matamua (ear-marked as our main 'lock' moving forward) & Sione Fainu to be the ball-playing locks with Kit Laulilii to be added in '25.

We should add Seyfarth as another for this position (probably at the expense of either Jake Simpkin or AJ Kepaoa in the squad - I'm confident both will be moved on).

I think Sezer will be good for us mate, steady head with a good kicking game & can help take pressure off Api. I think a full pre season will also do Bula wonders & then we can let Sullivan/Fainu battle it out for the 6 jersey. I do think our backs are extremely poor & we have the worst backline in the comp, need some serious strike out there & agree our forward depth is poor although some of these kids might change that.

Just my thoughts on the situation mate.

Being blunt, this is a great front row:
8. Stefano Utoikamanu
9. Apisai Koroisau (c)
10. David Klemmer
11. Isaiah Papali'i
12. John Bateman
13. Alex Twal

14. Jake Simpkin -> Da Silva
15. Fonua Pole
16. Shawn Blore
17. Samuela Fainu

Yes Simpkin is moving on. Otherwise MAN that is a top 4 forward pack IMHO. Bateman + Klemmer + Papali'i are SOO material and Stefano has been in the SOO camp twice.

1. Jahream Bula
2. David Nofoaluma
3. Starford To’a
4. Junior Tupou
5. Charlie Staines -->> not signed
6. Latu Fainu
7. Jayden Sullivan -->> signed

I keep hearing Aiden Sezer mentioned. Not a Fan but I would hope Sezer was 7, Sullivan 6 and Fainu if even starting first grade starts from the bench.

Yet Bula is class, but obviously needs little things worked on.
Our problem is 2-5 with question marks on 6-7. We just can't leak tries on our wings and centers.

Backline, toughten the hell up. Sheens if you cannot do it, the club needs to get someone who can.

nice. ultimately lists like this indicate how much shopping around Marshall and Sheens have to do for guys like Kepaoa, Simpkin and Nofoaluma. I’d be paying out Ngatikaura’s contract and freeing up a spot, because i doubt there’ll be any interest.

as you said in another post guys like, Willison Thompson, Watson and Olam have been linked and we’re going to need to free up spots to bring those guys in. Sheens did an excellent job shopping Liddle, Musgrove, Peachey etc last year, he’s going to have to do that again.

I can't believe we have not had a decent 13 since Hastings

Any future for both the Brandons and Rua in anyones opinion? They seem like the likely candidates to try to cut to me if we need to fit in potential signings or elevations, such as James or Seyfarth

I just don't know how we would find a willing buyer.

I think it's good to look at the players we could move on.

Jake Simpkin
Asu Kepaoa
Sione Fainu
Brandon Tumeth
Brandon Mansfield
Rua Ngatikaura
Adam Doueihi

I don't know how we could move these guys on because I assume they have to get contracts elsewhere. Doueihi is massively overpaid and he looks like a dud but he has also shown that he can play. Kepaoa has an upside but I'm concerned his discipline isn't good enough and his best spot is an edge backrower and we have already spent a fortune on those spots.

I haven't listed any outside backs to move on mainly because we don't have the depth. I'd love to swap Nofo for a big fast elite winger but I can't see it happening. Hopefully a dev player comes through that we can bring into our outside backs in 25.

The players we can bring in are all forwards as well:-

* Xavier Willlison -- who knows what will happen here.
* Alex Seyfarth
* Chris Faagutu
* Kit Laulilii
* Aitasi James

It'd be great to bring a couple of these guys up. I think Seyfarth is someone we really should keep because he is pushing for a first grade spot now. It's probably a good idea to ensure we retain and give some opportunities to Faagutu and Laulilii.

Sezer takes them to 29 on the books now for 2024..

They are going to need to start moving on players before they sign anyone else … they won’t move to 30 at this stage

Love your work to list it but I only care about 2024 ,getting too old to worry beyond that
What disappoints is no top class center recruits
Q 1 Is Jimmy Ngatlik likely to play for tigers next year. He is fast!
Q 2 Cant we get cap relief for Douehi who is unlikely to play till 2025

Also think still some deadwood in your 20-30 range Although you are just listing the facts as they stand without speculation on whos cut and whos recruited before next season

Ngutlik was a Ron Massey Cup/fringe NSW Cup player even before he did his knee.

Would be very shocked if he ever plays NRL.

Not sure about cap relief for Doueihi but I doubt it, as he looks to be pushing for a return mid-way through 2024, according to latest media reports.
