Nostalgia

Champion @Winston Churchill, you got me thinking.
Some years ago, I was privileged to talk with a gentleman who was growing up in Newcastle through the years of World War 2.
He told me of the time suburbs of Newcastle were actually shelled from a Japanese submarine in June, 1942 (the sub was one of the Jap subs that were more infamous for their attack within Sydney Harbour).

Here are some details:

#onthisday in 1983 the first ever episode of the pilot for the long running series The Bill aired on ITV. Called Woodentop, this one off drama featured Trudie Goodwin as PC June Ackland and Mark Wingett as PC Jim Carver.

Couple of funny things about the old Globite school cases.

#1. Walking home from school one day we stop at the corner of one of our mates streets and we stand around talking about stuff for a while before we continue on our separate ways home.

One of the guys sees a pile of horse shit near by, not far from where we have set our bags down while we are talking and while one of the guys is distracted another finds a piece of cardboard and shovels his bag full of horse shit.

Said victim heads home and plonks school bag down on dining table. Mother comes along a bit later to get lunch box out of bag/check for home work, whatever, and is confronted with a bag full of horse shit.

Mother not impressed.

#2. Same poor bastard that was the victim in scenario #1 gets distracted again one day and someone fills his bag full of bricks. They don't make it home that day because when said victim picks bag up, the hinges give way and everything falls out the bottom.

God we were arse holes.
