Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Wow people are harsh on Twal. 9/10 games he has a crack. Seems to fit in well and is fit. We’d be very strong if he was our worst player.

It comes down to his $$ and if no one is taking his contract then I would defintely extend him for less.

I’m not going to lose any sleep about him playing one more year…. Most likely he will continue to be a bench player and there are other players who concern me more …

I would be disappointed if he is still in the Top 17 come 2025 … We need to be better across the park if we want to move up to a Top 8 team and not just make up the numbers … if he wants to be here still as a depth player on $250k a year then fine…

IMO…need to get past this “good blokes “ and “having a crack”.. give me hard as nails d heads that win football games …

You can not rate him which is fine but I’m gonna have to disagree. I reckon he makes every top 8 side as the under the radar worker. He is way unders at 250 and would be insulting to put that to him. Cap is 12.1 mil next year is it not?

I don’t really know what he offers. His claim to fame was finally scoring a try. Which he did by being in the right place at the right time and literally falling on the ball. Another player who has hit his ceiling.
Do u watch all our games , Alex had been one of our best players this season, yes he could make more breaks but his defence is top shelf, I think u need to clean ur glasses before next season 🤔

Conversely, Alex Twal is also not holding us back from moving up the ladder.
I think this is the right take.

Twal himself, is not the issue. He's a fine player that contributes at most clubs.

His VALUE might be an issue, however.

If the club can find a way to deal with that- I'm happy for him to play out his career at the Tigers. He's not a half-million dollar contributor, in reality. Even $100k less per year starts to make much more sense.

Correct; the two get conflated too easily, which is understandable.

You could also argue that in a club flush with cash with no major targets to spend it on, that the value of his current contract is not a major concern either.

Funny thing with Twal- I actually think he's got decent leg speed. For me, he's a little like Douehi- he looks like he's going slow, but those legs cover a lot of ground.

The modern day Greame Bradley in that they move deceptively.

If you had Twal at around 95-100kg range, I'd contemplate him being an 80 minute lock.

News just come in that Josh Curran is now available.
He has that raw aggression and hard running style that we desperately need, get him at all costs.
I'm not sold on Curran. He's probably the type of player you love more when he's at your club.

That 'beating up on a teen' thing starts to put him in the "No DH at the club" catagory though.

He would be a massive get but a bit unrealistic
considering he's still pretty young and only
just got considered/selected for the all blacks
he's a gun though. I was hoping that Benji would
sign Julian 'the bus' Savea for a couple years
(à la Tuqiri) before he signed with Moana Pasifika!
Shaun Stevenson just re-signed with NZRU.

Ironically, like Alex Twal.
Twal plays as a middle forward, Curran plays on on the right edge.
Twal as much as I like him, doesn’t often threaten to make line breaks, Curran threatens to make line breaks a couple of times every game and that’s in limited minutes coming off the bench.
If we want to make life easier for our young playmakers, having someone who runs a hard line on the edge like Curran does will simplify their game.
