Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He is free to talk to other clubs for 2025 on Nov 1…

If he signs elsewhere I would suggest the WT probably let him go for 2024 as well
He will shine in a team all doing there part put good half's inside him he will hit his potential I don't think he's getting a fair crack at tiger's was bought to play edge unfortunately he got injured and rightly they had to fill his spot but should of been a stop gap and let him have his shot witch personal opinion I don't think he did so if he does end up elsewhere I wish you all the best kid

It’s concerning he hasn’t been extended already ….but still two weeks to go,,

I don’t suppose you want to provide some further details about the source of the rumour … was it someone in the local pub, or someone connected to him ?

Not really. It was reasonably smart business on our part. Players getting permission to seek better offers isn't restricted to us. We could have tried to extend him on his current money or tried to offer him the lower amount straight up. In the end we allowed him to sniff the air and realise for himself his actual value. Twal stays happy, we save 125k a year from next season and the contract is easier to offload down the track.
I can understand the positive spin on this, however?
Players don’t usually have their contract amounts made public, so who put it out there? Twaly? Surely not? His agent Pacific? Doubt they’re going to boast about getting a 24% pay cut for a 27yo prop who should be approaching his peak?
I guess that only leaves someone, or some group of people at WT trying to pin a star on their chest?

Im not fussed on Blore i don't see him as an edge backrower, he's been far more effective coming on as a middle rotation option. I've not really seen him do anything of note when he's played his preffered edge option.
He might be someone we are happy to offload now Twal is staying along with Seyfarth add Pole to that mix and maybe a youngster coming up like Fainu.
Reasonably happy Twal is staying on, but like all our signings and extensions lately i think its a year too long. Hopefully the 4th yr is a club option.

I love Twaly, but this decision, on the back of the clubs decision to release him only 1 month back shows to me the club has no strategic thinking behind its recruiting. They make things up as they go along. I thought Fulton was supposed to be a recruitment guru....dumb, dumb dumb...
I think the club should be congratulated on this.
Twal wanted extending at higher money and the club didn't agree he was worth that so advised him he can look around and if he gets more then good for him. The club said they wanted to keep him but not going to stand in his way. So he looked around and ended up signing extension at lower figure that the club believes he is worth.
IMO this is excellent move as they won't be bullied into paying overs for a non spine player and rightly so.
400k for Twal is a great deal for both parties and shows he wants to be here for the better years.

Twal is a player every team needs and just does his job on and off the field with NO dramas.

Based on his ability, what he showed 2nd half of season & his attitude, no way Benji would not want to re-sign him unless his manager is asking for above what the club currently value him (like Twal) or Benji wants to play him middle and he wants an edge.

My money is he extends! I'm just using a common sense approach as we don't have any players with his impact in A or D.

I'll take your word that Mam had caught the eye, but he didn't make his first grade debut until round 11 last year, so it would have taken a brave soul to call him out as a (nearly) premiership winning / Clive Churchill medal half. Be like us making that declaration of Latu Fainu. We can only hope!
He has always been the stand-up of his age group. Player of the carnival at schoolboys championship all that type of stuff. But then in 2021 he dominated reggies winning the QRL rookie of the year.
Not quite the same as claiming the same for Fainu, he hasn't done it against men yet. But tbh I see a similar ability except that Fainu won't be playing in as dominant a team as Mam has had around him.

I can understand why Sheens referred to Bateman as the “domino he wanted to fall”. He‘s a pigheaded uncompromising pommy who could have ignited something in our depressed players. He may just do that in 24?
True,

But with visa delays he wasn't here in the off season.

He may a very useful rev up this off season.

And his edge defence is good.

I'd suggest the club always knew what they were doing. Likely scenario to me is:
Twal asks for extension. Club offers a contract at reduced value. Manager says that its not enough and if they can't increase he will be looking elsewhere. Club says if that's how you feel you're welcome to look. Looks elsewhere and can't get an improved offer. Takes offer that Tigers had put forth.

Are we that smart?...hope so, but not convinced
