The Wests Tigers 23 squad isn't the worst.

We just have poor halves and poor coaching.

We needed a very very simple game plan based on a strong forward pack with no razzle dazzle, couldn't even get that right.

It might be a plum job if Qld didn't have Slater, Smith, Thurston, Walsh, Munster, Hammer, Cherry, and a forward pack with amazing line speed.

Madge had a great squad at Souths, with a dominant pack that included four prime Burgi. Yet he only had one great year and some duds. As soon as Madge left, Siebold improved the team out of sight. That's Siebold ... the bringer of the Broncs' first spoon.

I was against Madge's signing from the start, after seeing Souths' stars play poorly under him. Given the mess Cleary left, Madge has an excuse for taking the Tigers from ninth to the spoon in four years. But Qld are looking like hot favourites for '24.

Was funny at the start of the year, Sheens gave the team licence to throw the ball around then realised after two weeks we don’t have the team for that. Sheenius.

It was Benji selling the hot potato style in the media? It was Benji on the park training with the team. Sheens was like the voice, he had no power and was only advising.
This is a fundamental flaw in WT culture. Always looking for a patsy. And it’s always the last guy to leave.
I read someone stated Maguire took us to the spoon. Very unfair seeing he wasn’t with us to receive the award.
Funny that the poor results continue, same as the blame game.
 
Under Madge, the Tigers went from 9th to the spoon. People can say that, technically he didn't coach half of 22, but they were gone anyway. That's why Madge was sacked.

Remember, they lost 38-0 in the last game of 21 to the Dogs, who were the spooners. You can at least say that Madge took the Tigers from s 9th placed team to one bad enough to be one of the most serious spoon contenders.

What a load of horse shit mate ! Madge couldn’t win a chook raffle , then team had given up and quit on him . All players he recruited . He only has himself to blame!
I hate reading shit where people blame others for thier mistakes .
Sheens was the coach , had ultimate authority over decisions eg. Benji wanted Bula to start the season , and sign another half other than Wakeham .
So yes Benji ran the X and O , but he didn’t pick the teams and he didn’t make the holistic decisions . Hence the whole Fulton debacle .
Some of the stuff you say … seriously like what the hell ?

Whilst this is all true I don't believe it is accurate to attribute the demise to Madge. Perhaps partially, but certainly not fully.
There are so many other factors to consider than just his coaching. Just off the top of my head...

When considering his results.
Ability of playing squad.
Existing mood/attitude.
Player availability.
Club stability.

When considering his recruitment.
Salary cap situation.
Club reputation.
Club recruitment process.
Off contract talent pool.
Competition for talent.

I'd suggest just about every other factor was working against Madge possibly being successful here. Perhaps his coaching was not up to standard or perhaps he was coaching well but the other factors were to great to overcome. Likely a little of both but I don't think we can truly know.

Well LeStooge, you are of course incorrect as per usual.
In 2022, Madge had won 3 games…not great but in context of our season, reasonable. Sheens and the board stepped in and sabotaged the rest of that season by removing the coach, not installing a coach in his place, moving on players and loaning others out to rivals. Would Madge have secured the spoon that year? Maybe. We’ll never know. What we do know is that as a direct result of Sheens interference mid year, WE DID get it.

In 2023, Sheens was our coach. Benji his assistant and protege. All the talk pre season was about all out attack. That was more than likely Benji. Around a third of the way through the season, there were plenty of reports that Benji was running training sessions from reporters and identities at the ground. Benji was seen to have taken over all lead communications duties during games with Tim sitting to the side or even behind him. Tim then came out later in the year and stated that Benji ran our attack…an attack that was 17th best in the league.

Where is your proof Sheens picked all teams and made all holistic decisions? There’s no point lying in here LeStooge because people like me will call you out.

??? You know you just reworded what I said into 3 paragraphs right ? And none of it makes any sense ? It’s still Madge’s team , it’s still sheens team in 23 and as I said …. Benji did the X and O but didn’t have full autonomy. So therefore ……: if your not in charge , and your not the one making decisions …… …..:::. ….
For a guy who constantly makes illogical affirmed statements , you sure do have a lot of excuses to justify those opinions .

And I’m not wrong about anything . If youre the coach and you spend an offseason implementing change only for that change to fail , it’s your failure . Just like it will be Benjis this season. What’s good for the goose is good

He was here ages , and meh coaches with worse talent have done more . Wayne Bennett is hardly the smartest football mind in the world , but he engages his team , find ways to get his message across , and surrounds himself with staff that lift him and the team up.
Madge spent the last few years with guys he knew wouldn’t undermine him , or guys he didn’t want there because of the first statement .
I just don’t see how he’s not the one with the ultimate accountability . And he was because he doesn’t have a job here anymore .

And just for clarity’s sake , because I’m not replying after this , did Madge have to make lemonade from lemons ? Of course . But he was on a mil a year, and promised he could deliver . So I have no sympathy because as I said , ultimately it’s his team he created , and it’s his neck in the noose . Especially the back end of 21 and 22 , because the team quit on him well before he was fired .
We will see how 24 goes to really comment on 23 . But I’ve stated my opinion on that . Neither of us can speak in absolutes really about 23 . But I know for a fact Benji didn’t have final say on many decisions so I can’t/ won’t hold him accountable, because of what percentage did he get his way . 70% 40 % 90% ? Who knows . But it’s not 💯 than I won’t blame him.
I won’t jump to outrageous conclusions like … well you !
