Charlie Staines #262

Our coaching didn’t do well with 4 wins, this is a reason (no doubt others) Sheens is gone. No one could be viewed as doing well to win only 4 wins & coming dead last. Especially considering we upgraded the side with Api, Papa, Klem, Bateman and Bula come into the squad on the team that won 4 games the season before. We can all make excuses but as you mentioned it’s results and they were terrible.
Those results are as much Benji's as they are Sheens's.
Benji wasnt sitting in the shadows all season. He was learning to drive a car with Sheens in the passenger seat.

I went to Forbes once … never saw a Ferrari ..

He has just turned 23 … he still has some upside .. we will know one way or the other in the next 2 years …

I have a doubt that he might be injury prone.. but they gotta roll the dice with him ..

Have to wait for the salary numbers … but Zorba saying it’s an overpay means nothing to me at this stage.. he is a bitter flog

Very happy with Staines re-signing. Our best winger. He may not be the biggest guy but his runs are mighty. He really returns the ball with purpose. About to enter his mid-20s which is commonly the prime years for outside backs. Offers good coverage at fullback too. He's no Jahream Bula, however he can fill in there when required. Jahream will need a guy there to push him this off season so that there is no complacency/second year syndrome.

The longer this amateur drama between Benji and Scott plays out in the media then it is just bad press for the Tigers and our image can not keep taking this for much longer. If it keeps on going sack them both and appoint John Morris on a3 year contract and be done with it.
Mate you’ve gone full Pascoe there. Scapegoating Coach before he’s even coached.

Never go full Pascoe.

If Benji fails, it’s hard to get upset with him. If you hand a toddler the car keys and tell him to drive you to the supermarket, you can’t get mad at him when he writes your car off reversing It out of the driveway.

I completely agree however neither you or i have any control of what happens if it fails, unfortunately i have zero faith in the only people who make the decisions at the club the board

You could hand the Wests Tigers keys to Max Verstappen and your car would get written off. It’s missing most of the parts.

Again - it was the circumstances under which Fulton was employed that has created division. Benji signed on believing the club was moving in a direction under Tim Sheens - a five year plan. We now know that the club/administrators didn't trust/ gave up on that process given their interference, which made Sheens position untenable. It's hardly surprising that Benji is testing his authority because what he got sold no longer exists, and Fulton coming in trying to exert his authority over recruitment on the back of it - not too surprising that they are butting heads.
Whether it can be resolved is what is most concerning, and can the people who created the problem be trusted to make the right decision/s in managing it in the best interests of the team and club - given their recent history highly doubtful.
Again, we came 17th and were clearly heading in that direction under Sheens.

Sheens made Sheens position untenable. He did not win games and a squad that had signed a stack of names was performing way below their market value.

Let Fulton and Benji butt heads. they should a bit, so we don't get contracts like Nofa renewal, etc.

No one expected Sheens to "make the 8". But there was the expectation to "make the 16!" He wasn't living up to that and Wayne Bennett was. FIRE HIM!

Sheens was forced into a role that he was not brought back to the club for, on the back of Pascoe and Lee H's failure to attract another coach to the club after sacking the one they extended the year before.
He should have never been put in that position. Now Benji finds himself in the same predicament and possibly with a recruitment manager that he doesnt see eye to eye with. If he fails as plenty expect him to - this is all on them. How many payouts are the board prepared to tolerate before there is some accountability - they should be sacked on the basis of that alone.
Every failure that has occurred at the club is on the back of decisions made by the blokes in charge - and yet they are still given the power to make them - hopefully not for much longer.
