Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Maybe there was no reason to. If that’s what you are alluding to, because some article stated we’ve told a player he’s free to leave, then that’s a bit OTT. If it’s slanderous, yeah do something about it, but stuff that’s related to footy, they have to drink a glass a of cement. And dare I say, some of the supporters too if they are that easily triggered.

There is no other option. I'd argue the supporters getting triggered just don't get it either. Ignore it. Let's see how we go.

Our recruitment has not even been that bad. Klemmer, IP, Api, Bateman followed up by some junior stars like Sullivan, Galvin and both Fainu's.

I’m talking about supposed lies. You correct those stories.
Once a week, the WT content team should do a Member’s Update with the CEO & Head of Football at the desk hosted by Chris Warren. 5-10 min clip of what’s news at the club the past week including putting to bed any false stories. Pascoe could talk about where Community dept has gone, what Events have been held etc etc, Betsey could update what squad has been doing, injury report, quash any rumours etc etc.

Plenty of interesting content even if no media stories to allay. No not Ask The Boss over 50 mins, just a concise update over 5-10 mins.

Curiously, is there any evidence of Lee actually getting involved to up/extend his contract? Or is it a bit of forum speculation that has been repeated enough to be considered fact?

He did come out and state we weren't going to lose Nofo. I'll add that I remember a lot of people stating we had to keep him as well.

He shouldn't have gotten involved in the contract discussions.

The idea that you can go back on these stories is ridiculous. You just ignore it. You can't control the narrative and it happens all over the world in so many different sports it's not funny.

I've heard plenty of people talk about LeBron's steroid use and I've never heard him or anyone else deny it. Is Lebron somehow less important than the Tigers ?
He is to me.

I'm hearing what your saying, and it has merit. However, I guarantee the whinging on here would escalate if we did that, because the very notion of publicly denying every false rumour also in turn confirms every true rumour by way of silence. We would then all be complaining about us confirming stuff to our own detriment. The can of worms will be opened and we won't like it. It's tempting though, just to stick to the mddia grubs as much as possible, even if at times it's at our own detriment.

I agree, but I think the reason for ignoring media reports goes further than that.

Imagine, for example, that the media ran 10 stories about the WT – stories that, if true, we would rather keep in-house.

Imagine, further, that 9 of the stories are BS and that the WT issued denials against those 9, but left one of the stories un-denied.

The secret would be out – the un-denied story must be true. Unless, of course the club lied and denied the 10th story, which would end badly when the truth emerged.

Best to have a policy of saying nothing, otherwise the media could work out the truth based on the stories that the club does not deny.

I didn't see your post when I posted mine. I think that is exactly why the club does not deny false stories.

We saw what happened last year.
People denied rifts etc and some in media didn’t care. Heck at one point Braith defended Benji infront of some of the media douchebags.

Reality is the club is better off ignoring it, focus on fixing the mess we are in and getting results. We win, run as a professional organization and most of the negativity goes away.

I’m triggered by our club being continuously shit, guilty as charged.

Not interested in hearing from know nothing big heads, just put out a press release/email saying we are firmly committed to our front row leader. Chuck in a quote from the coach. The less we hear from the muppets the better.

You can’t . That’s the point . The story will get spun and a new direction because the person you’re trying to change has no interest in changing .
It’s a bad faith argument . You’re implying that everyone has an interest in the truth . And especially the media , have no interest in the truth . It’s absolutely pointless .

??? What ??? Yea of course you would ….. I don’t understand what you’re implying sorry . I was just saying money isn’t enough by itself . And most players don’t leave thier current club .
I’m saying find out if you’re a rough hope before tabling a contact. If you’re not let your fan base know you had discussions but it didn’t pan out. You are unlikely to get rejected/humiliated that way.

So every time you negotiate with someone let the fans know you didn’t get them . What if you’re negotiating with hundreds of people a year at various levels ? And you miss a high percentage , because there’s 16 other teams .
Your logic is beyond flawed . I’m not sure if you actually believe it , or are just refusing to accept that your initial thought was misguided , and it’s face saving time .
Transparent negotiations in a system geared towards skullduggery, would be a death sentence , not to mention a betrayal of trust for the person you’re negotiating with .

Gould went off a treat at the media last season when there was some story going around about unrest with the players and Ciraldo and someone was supposedly leaving etc.
The same Gould who works for Channel Nine "went off a treat at the media"???

Yeah nah!

He's just playing his own normal game!
