David Nofoaluma #164

We don’t know the complete story to be fair, however it seems that Noffa has struggled with pre-season and training regimes before, he’s also needed attitude adjustments before and has acted divisively and shown himself to be selfish before. So I’d say that Benji is over it and is standing firm against his behaviour.
Won’t be surprised to see Noffa part ways with us.

Can't handle the burner being applied to his soft belly. How is it that he can not show up to training and the club can't tear up his contract? The club at the very least should at the very least be able to withhold his salary while he refuses to show up.

Can't imagine the club will do anything about. He's up the chairman's arse so there's zero chance the board will do anything about it.

He would have received a warning along those lines…3 strikes and tear up the contract..

If they haven’t done that it is quite suspicious.
This would appear a perfect opportunity to move him on and not pay him out. Smart play by him going to the Union.

There is no way this ends with Nofa staying in 2024. He can run to the RLPA but unless his evidence is of clear Club Breech then he can kiss his $500K p.a. goodbye. Maybe he is hoping for a classic Clive Palmer strategy of suing everyone and settling out of court, Take the $200K per year payout Nofa and goodbye - thanks for your service.

Interesting sequence of events.
Nofa gets hooked by Sheens round 3 against Bulldogs.
Nofa returns round 9 in our first win vs Penrith. We also go on to win against Dragons, play tough against heavyweights Rabbitohs and put 66 point on Cowboys.
Of course Brooks’ would have been negotiating a Manly contract at the time, but the key figure in this seems to be Nofa?
Lee said Nofa needs a reason to play and will go well in a Storm jersey, and sure enough he did, scoring 4 tries in those 6 games.
My point is, this Player dissatisfaction must run deeper than just one player? Is the clubs esprit de corps so fragile?
I reckon Benji will have his “man management” skill level appraised following this offseason.

Needs a reason to play
He’s a paid professional so that is a crap excuse

Ok, let’s steal his car and give it back when/if he starts training/ performing at ann accepted level ,and becomes part of the “team” !
Or perhaps get Lees daughter to have a chat with him seeing they’re mates.
Remember Davey boy, there’s no I in team !

I thought he looked out of place, ie not as fit and a step behind the other storm players in the couple of games I watched when he playing down there. After tasting what an elite system is about, you’d think if there was a rumour about his fitness coming back from preseason then it should have been, “which player has come back fitter and faster than ever”.

Half of those tries were ‘catch n walk’ to the line.
Whichever way you look at it, I think Nofa wearing his heart on his sleeve isn’t our real problem. I would much prefer 17 players had an open honest approach instead of sulking privately.
Before the Penrith game Benji had one on ones with both Nofa and Brooks. The team looked like a top 8 squad over the next 4 games. The only other win was a 1 pointer over a reserve grade Dolphins.
So what happened?
There are possibly one or more positionally influential people in the organisation busily building speed bumps to progress, is my guess?

Look i’ll be honest, I was a big fan of Nofo over the years. He was actually entertaining to watch.
Liked how he would recover an oppositions down field kick, then somehow burst at the defensive line and break free, suddenly we’d be attacking the oppositions line 30out on set 2, the crowd is ballistic and the WT chant start. He is strong, and liked his acrobatic tries out wide.

But...

The only downfall in this saga is obviously his contract and everyone agrees.

He is getting payed big dollars per year. Turning up to training is basic expectation.

Seems like Benji is driving the right expectation.

I really think we can’t afford Nofa, I love the guy for what he brings but I think he’s too expensive if he’s asking more than $325k. I really do.
Nofa hasn’t played rep footy or finals. Take a look at the 2 wingers chosen for the blues ahead of Nofa? Both on much less than he’s asking. JAC $375k and Tupou $220k. Our admin is on track now to deliver a well balanced cap. The horror of 2017 is well behind us now . Let’s leave it there..please?
😤 I still cant believe we signed him for $500k plus?
