Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I've cooled my jets in regards to Olam, i hope we don't do the deal in any form he's got Bj vibes going on.
Yep, don’t get me wrong. He is a quality player at his best.

Buts for those dollars. Shouldn’t we be worried that at stages during the year, he wasn’t picked for his own team.

He’s not a fringe first grader at 600k.

For less money, no worries take the punt. But for those dollars, risk needs to be non existent.

Then you are effectively paying $650,000 for a player of the same age, in similar form and for an extra year, 3 years as opposed to 2 years.

Don't see any advantage in this scenario, better keeping Noffa and save $150,000 a year and have him off the books a year sooner than Olam would be.
Ideal world we get someone to pay $250k pa for Nofa (can't see this being any higher) & Storm agree to pay $350 pa for Olam. Then you could look at it that Olam & Nofa is effectively a swap (we pay $500k pa, except an extra year) with us placing faith in Benji, Morris & co to get Olam back to close to '22 form and Olam's experience & leadership far outweighs anything Nofa could contribute.

Look, Sadly Nofa is acting awful again. His attitude will bring the team down.
Yes I was fully ready to allow Nofa to sail into a 500k do nothing sunset. Mainly because I don't think we would get 200k for him and it would be 200k for one year.

Now (and maybe for a long time) Nofa is toxic and must go. Sucky way to end a career.

As for Olam, I only see him as a total upgrade on anyone in our backline. 2023 was his worst year, give him some tackle confidence and bringing him in lets our stronger players to go to the wing.
i.e.

2023 was Nofa, Toa, Staines/Naden/AJ/whoever we can find, Tupou

2024: Staines, Naden, Toa, Tupou
With Olam:
Naden, Olam, Toa, Staines.
(with the possibility of Tupou spending a bit of time in Reggies to get his defense right).

Till we get our backline sorted, we will not progress past 14th. We need to be able to count on our backline defending and scoring more tries then they let in. You put Nofa/Tupou on the wing and it's a field day.

100% we should sign Olam and forget chasing Luai. Don't get me wrong Luai is the better player, class act, top shelf. However we signed Sullivan/Fainu/Sezer and were full in the halves.

Hire the player the team needs, not the extra 5/8 we don't need (i.e. Ivan Cleary style).

Those figures are much better, but as it stands from reports Storm don't appear to want to pay any freight so I can't see them paying $350k, I would rather pay Nof $1m over the next 2 years and let the Storm pay Olam his $1.8m for the next 3 years.

You pay an rising young star a bit extra over a few years and hope it pays off and he gets to that consistent NRL level rather than pay way overs (on current form) for a 30yo who's form is now questionable and may never regain it.

Have to agree with you on the Kayo issue.

It is glitchy beyond belief and before anyone says anything I am with TPG on a 100Mps plan and it actually tests at over 100Mps on Ookla whenever I run a test, most commonly at around 107/108. I have a node at my front fence in an acreage area, so I guess it is not over subscribed as there are at least 3 nodes in my area that I know of.

The only gripe I would have with the TPG plan is that some time ago they reduced the theoretical upload from 40Mps to 20Mps, which doesn't really affect me and I could not justify paying extra to retain the 40Mps upload limit.

I have cancelled Kayo now and will rejoin when the NRL starts up again because NRL is really the only reason I use Kayo.

A couple of years ago Telstra had members deals for 12months for $15 a month and I decided to give it a go and actually got it for a year for $5 a month because I have 2 mobile plans with them.

The following 12 months it went up to $15 a month for 2 streams which was tolerable for the use that I get out of it.

Now that it is $30 for 2 streams and I think $35 for 3 streams it is way over priced for the use I get out of it and the quality of the stream is crap a lot of the time.

Quite often, catching up with episodes of shows you find that sometimes the ends of shows are cut off, sometimes they just skip ahead part way through a show and generally it can be pretty annoying when you are paying full price.
Yeh me and a mate usually go halves too... He changed electricity plans 2 years back and got a years free kayo 2 streams.... I did the same last year changed power supplier

I sometimes found games at the start wouldn't load for some time... And things like 360 would cut out if I watched later... Bad weather would see a bad picture... Still.more.often than not it was ok

Didn't really want to lose Blore but if he has definitely signed with Storm for 2025 then I can't see the point in keeping him in 2024.

Why not give some of the up and comers a crack in first grade and if Blore is as injury prone as some suggest, why risk a Doueihi like situation and possibly waste a top 30 position for the year.

Is there some way we could do a swap deal with the Storm and take Olam for the year with a club option for the remainder of his 2025/2026 contract if things look like they could possibly work out, otherwise it reverts back to the Storm.

Of course we wouldn't want to pay full freight for any of Olam's current 2025/2026 contract and the starting point for 2024 would be that Storm pay Olam's contract and we pay Blores contract with maybe a little sweetener one way or the other.
We need to play our best players and Blore is well abouve a lot of up and comers , we need to move up the ladder not waste another season trying kids , give the kids the time they need and use Blore up if he is leaving in 25

Just My opinion.

But I do feel that cowboys have the right idea. Luciano is talented, but is only getting less mobile.

A move to prop as they did a fair few times, is where he will end up. Less ground to cover laterally, and won’t be found out In the same way like you can be 3rd in.

That cowboys deal was 100% overs, and although I wanted to keep him. I am glad we didnt pay overs.
He’s being shopped as they know they blew that one.

Couple years ago it was about right , but now $ 3 maybe $ 350 k. Or go shopping in England and grab the young Pommy test centre , contract out in 24. Now’s the time to dive in cheap , he would come for
1) change to play NRL
2) to live in this great country for say 2 years / deal
3) won’t break the bank as I think it was mentioned he wants to come hear
Sun , Footy , Snags on BBQ , Prawns and cold beers after the game

Iam like most here and thinks Nofo’s time is up…but what ever happens I will never forget that try against Manly. He was the first winger to do the double twist with pike, with a degree of difficulty 9.9 to score. Of course now every winger can do them, but back than it was nearly lead story on the 6pm news!!

Agree with everything bar the luai comment. If he’s available you get him. The other 3 halves are all depth/potentail at other clubs. Sezer only 1 year anyway i think.

But our lack of class in backline is staggering.

I think Nofa needs to train by himself , away from the club. Or ask for a release and move on . He’s clearly not keen to be here anymore , and I’d say everyone not named Lee , would drive him to the airport .
If he stays here there won’t be a contract in 2026 . Because if he keeps this shit up , he will be playing Ron Massey cup , at best .

Didn't need to be said but you said it just to make it clear....love it.
I’m not trying to pile onto the guy . Do I think he’s a dickhead ? Yea , yea I do . But he’s entitled to his opinions and to express them , like all of us . He just needs to leave the “this Sparta” level homo- eroticism alone man . Because Jesus … it doesn’t look good that’s for sure .

What we need is WTF Survivor. Each week, members vote to evict another member. Once the tribe has spoken, their torch is extinguished and they are banished. There's only 3 or 4 dickheads on this forum so it only needs to run for a month.
