The Mole 😑…

if he thinks it’s a good idea … then it ain’t happening … never gets anything right
It's just a BS opinion-piece.

I don't think Tigers have any intention at all of using Galvin as a bargaining chip. If we've already agreed to terms with Luai and he's kicking up a fuss at Panthers, that's for the Panthers to figure out.

Tigers have the much stronger hand at this time - we can afford to wait for Luai. That is where Mole is totally wrong, because Tigers are actually not that desperate in 2024. It's a rookie coach, new Board, new CEO, new roster - there's a lot of leeway to be given. Anything better than last is a strong improvement and with Luai incoming 2025 the fans know there is more optimism to come.

Considering the drama Tigers have had in the past with similar contracts - Taupau, Aloiai, Blake Austin etc. the incumbent side is often better served cutting their losses and granting a release. The main difference here is that Penrith are a premiership-winning side, i.e. it's proven that Luai is a component of their dominance, and it's pretty far into the offseason to be trying to figure out how to spend Luai's salary. They've also reportedly paid Luai a significant salary already this new season and might want to be compensated.

I would personally be amazed if Bud is still at the club at the start of preseason in 2 years time
Im with you.

At this stage, he'll be the most expendable in my opinion and has enough about him to be alluring to other clubs in need of a 7 if we see a logjam.

The alternative is he plays the house down and keeps Galvin and Fainu out for as long as he wants, though this isn't the smart money bet.

I agree. No way we let go of any of Galvin, Fainu, Sullivan or Sezer in any early deal for Luai, not a chance.

Benji will give time to Galvin, Latu & Bud to see how they progress & fit in culture-wise.

Plus it sends the wrong message to all other players in the team & potential recruits.

Sounds like the Panthers are salty that he’s leaving..turn his name to mud to soften the blow for the fans. Scum club.
They are a scum club indeed. People forget the death threats fans sent to the Cleary's when they were shit. Also Edwards copped it heaps back then. They are making Luai the scapegoat as do the media and people who already dislike Luai will have no issue in believing a false narrative that the sneaky manipulative Ivan creates

This is the only logical outcome. Love everything Benji has done so far, but if we could keep all these young promising halves we have a massive future ahead. Can't lose Fainu to Dolphins as Kristian Woolf praised him and the other half is his Tongan partner Isaiya Katoa

Luai's shoulder is the major issue in all this talk of immediate releases. he's racing the clock to be fit for Round 1. that situation all well and good if you're Penrith, but for us we have three new halves that have come in and built combos over preseason, and Luai won't have that luxury. swapping someone late in the preseason doesn't exactly send a good message either.

remember how long it took for the team to get used to Api last year? Brooks certainly didn't make good use of Papali'i, and Bateman had about 4 halves partners in his first few months.

combos are key. Luai is the biggest signing we've made ever, but for his and our sake leaving him at Penrith for this season might be the best move.

Oi, how good is it to have some halves though?
we are stacked.

from Doueihi, Brooks and Wakeham in 2023, to Sullivan, Sezer, Fainu, Galvin and Doueihi in 2024. Luai looks to be on the way for 2025 and guys like Large, Isdale, Matai and Lawry in the lower grades. Harradyn Wilson from Manly (former QLD U19 rep) signed on a Cup contract. brilliant roster management. now onto the outside backs.

As others have said let Jarome get himself fit and firing while theyre paying for it....Im happy to wait for 25.

Galvin is the one guy is be philthy about losing if we did let him go, while the past counts for nothing its all the future now, his past is very impressive...that said its not out of the ordinary for kids that have slayed everyth from 4 years of age up till theyre 18 find that last step which is NRL just a bit too tough for whatever reason

I often break it down to a weekly pay just to compare to what I used to earn... That said they do earn it the collisions in a game are enormous x 30 odd times a year on average... The training I'd have loved when I was stronger and fitter... To have that pro training all year and get paid

Hard to imagine I guess you'd get used to being paid those sums and many players that are cluey would have most their money working for them and the future... Would be nice tho to be able to purchase a house with price and location not being an object (within reason)
Don't forget your brain gets donated to science and you live on as an immortal in the footnotes of a longitudinal study...

Ellis and Tuqiri said hi 😉

But maybe not the full season.
Some of this talk does indicate a early move could be possible maybe round 10 or something would work for us, there will come a time where Penrith want to use his salary to start securing their 25-26-27 roster; ie their young talent time…

I dunno I just think it’s rubbish journalism. Despite Penrith’s success over the years they, like us, have often been the target of destabilising rumour mongering in the media, particularly when it’s anything to do with Luai.
Both clubs have been media targets for different reasons - us because we’re perennial losers and them because they’re winners so it becomes the tall poppy syndrome.

Great problem to have for once

After reading that I lament all my life career choices. I could have been a journo.

Mole sounds like one of our regular posters on here- "I've watched Galvin & therefore I KNOW he's better than all the Tigers halves options in 2 years"

I watch games!

Payed pop-gun, he's a man-child who just
writes 2 paragraphs on his opinion, or at
a managers behest. Spends the rest of
his day talking shit on twitter. He's a flop
