Jarome Luai

Ponissi is a great operator. Often overlooked how much of an influence he has had over the day to day running of the Storm.
Maybe the reason he is overlooked [if that's the case] is because they are tucked away in AFL country, so we never get to hear much about them.
And that's to their benefit, as being away from the day-to-day spotlight on the Sydney teams, they can just concentrate on the club and themselves, and winning games of footy which they obviously do very well at.

They got him offside too before he took
time off training after telling them he was
gone. I think they wanted to get on the front
foot and quash any idea of releasing him
for the 2024 season. The back story on
how Benji got his man & what transpired
in the last few weeks would be interesting.
This signing is a game changer. Massive
Bit irrelevant but why does your text appear narrow. Is it because you are on your phone?

I just want to counter this and say I personally don't care when the deal gets done. No footy for another 8 weeks, it makes zero difference if he signs today or Feb 28, if he's not being released for 2024.

The fuss in this forum only reflects the inability of some supporters to be patient. The player himself is probably still enjoying his Xmas and New Year's.
Huh 😱...We haven't been in the finals for over 10 years and you're asking our supporters to be patient.
How many more Fn years do we have to be patient for 😢 🤣.

And that's fair enough! Don't think it would
be in the best interests of either club even
if he wanted an early release tbh. It's now
going to be a shoot out with our halves
to see who will partner him in 2025. I like
the fact that Sezer is on a 1 year deal too,
he'll want to play his ass off and show the
league he's still got it in the hopes for 1
more contract elsewhere. Still only 32. I
think we're in a really good place currently,
Luai will help our recruitment drive for '25
too which bodes well. We were due some
sort of luck. Hoping Jarome is the catalyst
Only downside I see is weve got a truckload of $$ invested in halves for 2025 but no quality outside backs,,...
.but have 12 months to fix that
Sezer and Douhi both off contract end 2024,which leaves u with Laui($1.2),Fainu(500),Bud(500) and Galvin(250)??.
I doubt any other club has that amount in halves??
If Galvin plays in another position, which he probably will, guess we can live with that
Need much better wingers..maybe the rugby kid will work out ok..not so sure about the Dragons reserve grader if hes slow...plus at least one quality centre..maybe 2 if Toa doesnt improve his consistency.
Well know after a handful of rounds whether Olams 3 year deal at Storm is worth taking on(unless he plays Reggies!)..and same will apply to Douhi (when he returns)who is now surely consigned to the centres or nothing

Well if you had the details of other new signings or extensions etc. then you might have a point. But we don't, we have no idea; we don't even know the actual value of this Luai deal. We don't even know that Tigers are not negotiating with other players in parallel to Luai (and we sign whoever says yes first).

So "knowing" where the money is allocated and secured is a false premise; you will never have such surety as a rugby league fan.

"Shouldn't be more hold ups" is also purely speculative - we have no idea what hold ups there might be (or not) and why they exist (or don't). So we cannot posit that there should not be any more hold ups.
But we can't offer contracts to offer players with this money. That's the point. We have to exclude 1.2 million from the cap until he makes a decision. Sure there's still some room in any case but you need to know where the majority of your cash is spent to ensure the right positions are prioritised accordingly

Personally..I dont think hes coming.Hope Im wrong, but his behaviour is atypical of someone who is joining a new team
Hes had a month to buy into Benji's vision for him at the club, and more specifically,to reflect on an unmatchable financial offer which wld make him one of the games highest paid players. And in doing so wld add stability and credibilty in his new club
..and he still hasnt committed.
Think his manager is squeezing the very last cent out of Panthers and Dogs TPAs to get as close as he can to our offer..and he will take his chances on the contract term in 3 years
Brace yourselves
Sky isnt gonna fall in or anything like that..we have a contingency plan in place which was relevant before we chased him...and it will still do a job.
Sezer may be a revelation as playmaker
its very challenging to attract top tier talent, particularly from the premiers when yr stuck at the bottom. Our first graders are ok to play as backups for them!
How can he commit if we haven't put a contract in front of him to sign? The club has dragged the chain here for some reason, very slow to act, though the changes may have impacted this slightly as the dust settles

Yeah I really like all this as well the way a lot of the main players in this position are coming o/c.
When I was a supervisor and doing rostering things like this rarely fell so smooth, the way you wanted them to... It was more - too many staff on this day and not enough on that day
It's a nice problem for Benji to have going into the next few seasons.
Many have written off Sezar already... Wouldn't surprise me if he goes well enough to trigger another contract extension, he's likely to be in the box seat and should get first crack.
How long do we give them all under a new coach before we start judging?

Panthers trying to control the narrative and head off early release talk. At the very least make it clear to the Tigers and Luai that it would need to be an extraordinary deal in their favour for it to happen.

Today is a good day to sign a multiple premiership winning Origin 5/8 to a six million dollar contract.
Dont be surprised if there is some official announcement in the next 3 days ref Luai .. Penriff have waived the 10 day cooling off period. Contracts reportedly signed 16 Dec 23. TGIF maybe .. ;-)

Looking at Laui, Fainu and Sullivan, Id guess the Storm have that much tied up in Munster, Hughes, Pezet and Penrith in Cleary, Laui and Schneider. It seems pretty normal for the top squads. Manly would be well over that with Daly, Brooks and Schuster.
