The following statement from Woolworths Holdings Capetown SA, a major shareholder in Woolworths Australia..

WOOLWORTHS STATEMENT: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

Media articles claiming that Woolworths supports an Israeli boycott are inaccurate and we want to set the record straight. Despite reports commending us for taking a pro-Palestinian or anti-Israeli position – we have not. Woolworths would like to explicitly affirm that we neither support nor boycott anyone. Woolworths has no political affiliations and does not support any political party, organisation or country….

Hopefully the only comment i will make is Australia day should be celebrated on the anniversary of when we became an independent nation. However you could argue is that day when we got independance or the day that the British could not overrule us (Privy council) or even the day that is still to come that a foreigner is no longer our titular head of state.

Surely there's no greater symbol of indigenous dispossession and land theft than lamb. Sheep were one of the greatest economic drivers of the occupation of the continent. Mobs and mobs were set loose on the country over running hunting lands, destroying yam gardens and fouling water ways. Resistance to that resulted in large scale killings... And it's amazing how easily people have been blatantly programmed to associate lamb with Australia Day by commercial interests. Not very unifying for vegans, vegetarians, people who don't believe in killing animals for food and those that just don't think it tastes great.
I'm not sure if you're serious or not.

Thats 1st January, hardly a great day to celebrate.

Anzac day has always felt a more patriotic day for me. After the horror of Gallipoli, an Aussie soldier has never been under the direction of a foreign officer.

What about the poor old swaggie minding his own business camping by a billabong.

Absolutely, the landholder (economically powerful) who probably paid f all for the land, or stole it, called the police on a homeless (economically weak) for stealing a sheep, causing him to drown himself.

Btw, what’s being allowed to happen? Someone’s been watching too much Sky News.

Don't watch Sky news.

It was a hypothetical. I said their may be someone suggesting it, some discourse.

Countries and cities changing their names isn't uncommon.

Often after colonisers or occupiers are removed from power.

Australia is a European name.

So logically, if it is decided Australia was illegally invaded and we gradually cancel reminders of European settlement why is a name change not possible?

Aboriginal people could put forward alternatives.

Can think of numerous name changes for countries and cities since WW2.

Imagine suggesting to change the name for Queensland! There'd be a civil war. The Victorians might go for a change.

In all likelihood change will all come at once. When we become a republic we'll get a new flag and take that opportunity to move Australia Day to the day we truly become an independent country. Probably 10 years away

Sheep would have been the business to be in ,in the early days of settlement. Government gifting land, flocks growing. Those farmers may have planted weedy grasses particularly in semi arid regions which are somewhat of a nuisance today, but not as bad as what we‘re doing today. Digging up the country and shipping it to China.

That's funny.

So your agreeing with me lol.
Agree with you on what? I haven't read all the dribble on all the pages.

You mentioned something about changing the name of the country, which is just ridiculously stupid and won't happen. Our name comes from a Latin word for Southern, which suits us fine and won't ever be changed.

But i do think they'll bundle the referendum with 2 questions.

1. Should Australia become a republic and get a new flag? Yes/No
2. Should Australia Day be moved to the date we formally become a republic? Yes/No
