David Nofoaluma #164

you know what sux . When one person diminishes someone else’s experience , by comparing it to another similar experience from someone else . As if the two are linked in any way shape or form !
eg. “My dad used to beat me when I was a kid , it messed me up so much I became a drug addict “
” well my dad used to beat me as well , and I became a multi millionaire….. harden up “
Whenever I hear/see / read this it really grinds My gears at the pure arrogance , to even think this is even remotely relevant or reality.
Not taking into account , context , severity , types , or any kind of variable that could lead to a completely different experience. Not to mention , everybody deals with shit very differently , where a simple harsh word can be laughed off by most , but for some can be soul crushing.
To compare Benji experience to Nofa is insulting to both parties. They’re absolutely chalk And cheese .
If that period of Nofas Life messed him up , where he thought he had no home and nowhere to turn ,that the way he talks about it “him being homeless” might have everything to do with his appreciation for the family friend who took him in , and absolutely nothing to do grandstanding .
People did this with Brooks. They couldn’t separate the player on the field with the human being .Some horrendous shit got spouted ,and now I see it with the 2024 captain Scapegoat .
don’t get it twisted either . I think Nofa has much like brooks , become entitled and selfish , having spent his whole career in a losing team , but that has zero to do with his childhood , or is like A Scarlett A tattooed on his chest. It’s just footy .

Learn to read - his grandparents didn't kick him out...

He ran away for one afternoon.

Benji had it much tougher than Nofa and has NEVER played the homeless card despite not being raised by his biological mum or ever knowing his father...
Learn to talk/text properly and stop acting as if ‘running away’ and ‘homelessness’ aren’t often conflated issues.

My understanding is (from reading the article) that, whilst he made a choice, it’s far from what he wanted and regardless of one night or one-hundred… his path led him to sleeping on the street.

He doesn't run it hard anymore.
I disagree. He is still probably the best winger at the club for churning out hard metres off kick returns & early hit ups.

He is guilty of being overpaid & sounding entitled & probably being slower than we are used to.

His defence is pretty average, but then so is the defence of whoever stands next to him most games.

And he's probably our safest catch under a high ball.

Does this mean "they are all bad defenders, so leave it as is"?
However, "Doing the same things and expecting a different result.."?😉
Many identify Nofoaluma as our weakest link on the right side, his reading of the game and positioning in the defence is arguably the worst.
Also, he is the oldest player, and "can't teach an old dog new tricks" is definitely true in his case.😢

Tigers go to war with Nofoaluma after serving termination letter

David Nofoaluma’s future at the Wests Tigers hangs in the balance with the out-of-favour winger summoned to front the club’s new-look board on Wednesday night after being served a termination letter.

The Herald can reveal the Tigers have offered Nofoaluma a termination payout of close to $300,000 to walk away from the final two years of his deal, which are worth just over $1 million. The offer, which comes after being issued his second breach notice in a month, is yet to be accepted.

It comes amid explosive accusations made by the Tigers’ greatest try-scorer to the Rugby League Players’ Association that rookie coach Benji Marshall told him that he would not play NRL again if he stayed at the Wests Tigers.

Almost eight years ago, a nasty feud erupted between club legend Robbie Farah and then-coach Jason Taylor, who tried to push the hooker out of the club by indicating his future would be in reserve grade if he stayed.

History now appears to be repeating itself. Nofoaluma has sought legal advice about the comments made to him and the perception of unfair treatment from the club’s coaching staff.

He is expected to be accompanied by the RLPA’s solicitor when he fronts the Tigers board to fight for his career later this week. New Tigers chief executive Shane Richardson declined to comment when contacted by this masthead.

“We’re continuing to work through it with all parties involved and are not in a position to make further comment,” RLPA boss Clint Newton said.

Nofoaluma’s second sanction in a month came last week after he failed to adhere to club protocols when it comes to missing training due to illness.

The veteran winger notified a club official that he was not going to be able to attend training last Monday due to a bout of gastro, however did not respond to the club doctor’s attempts to contact him for the next 48 hours.

The club, after numerous attempts by several people to contact him, had to send a player to his house to check on Nofoaluma’s welfare.

This masthead first revealed in December that Nofoaluma refused to turn up to training over a perception of unfair treatment from the club, including the training methods adopted by the coaching staff.

Nofoaluma struggled physically and with his fitness levels upon returning to pre-season training and was one of the team’s least impressive performers in a time trial, struggling to keep up with the new standards at the club driven by Marshall.

After a series of meetings with the club and the RLPA, Nofoaluma returned to training almost two weeks later but was then sanctioned by the club for arriving late for a training session before the Christmas break.

Nofoaluma, who still has two seasons to run on his deal with the joint venture club worth about $525,000 a season, once again finds himself in hot water after being served another breach notice last week.

Nofoaluma has been handed at least three breach notices by the club in recent years.

This masthead reported back in 2021 that he was stood down from the club’s senior leadership group after turning up to training hungover the morning after the wedding of former chairman Lee Hagipantelis’ daughter.

Nofoaluma, who was at the wedding alongside then-coach Michael Maguire, was unable to finish the session the following morning and was sanctioned for his indiscretion.

The Tigers have been trying to offload the winger to a rival club for the past two years and even lent him to the Melbourne Storm at the end of 2022 as part of a loan deal for the final few games of the regular season and the finals.

Nofoaluma has scored 100 tries from 192 games for the Tigers since his debut for the joint venture club in 2013.

His services have been offered to rival clubs on numerous occasions over the past two years, but the Tigers haven’t been able to agree on the amount they would contribute as part of his release. Nofoaluma had also attracted interest from the Super League.

Surely Lee and the Bryden's team would be in his corner.

Good stuff! You'd think the pork chop would get the message and piss off.

How are you being mistreated if you’re not fit enough at training , and being told that the club is moving forward with younger players ?
Every player gets tapped on the shoulder at some point . IMO he bitched and moaned about the mediocrity here a year or two ago , now there’s been a level up in expectations and standards , and he’s being singled out because he can’t meet the new benchmarks ? You’re supposed to be a leader mate . You’re 30 , slowing down , and lacking the same oomph in your runs . You can’t defend , are meh under the high ball , and offer very minimal leadership qualities .
If he was a leader around the club , drove standards, and didn’t bad mouth the club in public over the last couple of years , then he would have a very clear case , and I would agree with him.
But he wasn’t that , and his lack of contrition and self reflection is sad to watch . In some ways his winger of the year Dally M , seems to have been his undoing . He’s had nothing but attitude problems since then . It’s a real shame

well, it was bound to happen. unfortunately for David he has dug his own grave being a constant no-show and not applying himself at training. if I were him I'd be taking the $300k and running before the board sacks him with nothing to show for the final two years of his deal.
