Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We have tried endlessly to reform dropkicks in the hope that they play well.

I don't think we are there as a club just yet.

I have faith in Benji, Richo especially after this week to change club culture
The love shown to Olam by his Storm teammates, the regard for Luai from Pamfers, Klemmer, Api, Bula, Ceasar, we've got some outstanding individuals at the club right now. Building the right culture with the right people.

Yes and it is 100% down to Sullivan and Fainu to prove themselves this year.
I know both have longer term Contracts.

Sullivan however needs to impress in 2024 to claim the other halves spot. If he cannot outperform Fainu/Sezer and own the spot then we can throw him back to St George or whatever club wants him.

It is a good position to be in.
Finally after so many years we feel some fresh wind and many obstacles are blown away!
In many positions we improved the depth and hopefully the clensing process will continue! 🐅 💪

I just saw our beloved board member old mate Dennis Burgess in the Australia Days honours lists.

Services to music!

Good old Dennis, he’s been stoned since the 1971 after the release of second album “ On the wagon”

They used to play his hits on 2FC all the time:

“ You can vomit in my couch anytime”

“ Climb every turkey”

“ Touch me again, and I’ll break your jaw”

Good stuff Dennis. No hard feelings ( I’m serious this time) I couldn’t handle that board either if I was him.

Love Bula especially. Seems very humble. He is very different to most young up and coming stars who are inherently equipped with a massive chip on their shoulder (e.g. Reece Walsh). The older heads will act as good role models for the rest of the crew and to support the young rookie coach in Benji

It’s good to have Bula wrapped up for quite awhile.

I think salad is stock these days, but comes with a lot of experience. He’s played 4 plus times the number of games the average player manages, in a career and that’s massive.

His recruitment fits in with my no frills approach by Benji this season and I’d hope salad wants to pass on his immense knowledge.

Benji is sick of troubled halves like us.

I was reading about experimenting and so forth, and holding the fort for Jerome, and I understand the logic, but I don’t think it’s Benji plan to start.

What will happen is that the injuries will set in and less fancied players will get their opportunity.

I think Benjis main goal this season is to get a consistent game and to drag us kicking and screaming off the bottom.

And Jerome is used to quality around him, he needs people in the right positions to play his best.

But If we can get a decent D happening, life as we know it will change! It will solve so many problems, especially in attack!!

Benjis only probably doing a few hours sleep a night atm. Time is ticking.

Other teams I’m quite interested in this year would be SGI and the titans and see how they improve….which I think is likely.

He looks like a guy who has really enjoyed his life

You sure love the D

How do you know we are not looking at him ?
If you do a quick estimate of the estimated/rumoured salary’s for the players already on our books for 2025, you will see we won’t have much salary cap space left to invest in any new players.
We are spending upwards of 2.5 million on our 4 halves alone.
Throw in a few ageing players that we are no doubt paying much more than their true value and I can assure you there isn’t much wriggle room left for 2025.
Obviously I don't know what we're doing if we're looking at him or not.... Yet we just saved a shit load punting nofo

Yeh your probably right... and I guess benji will have enough on his plate to worry about

Yeah they say in real life he’s very nice guy, kindly and obviously a bohemian.

Over the last few years, we might have been better off with Dennis and his band running the club at board level.

Turn the white elephant into a concert hall.

I read that we could afford afb and luai, with the nofos saving, the storm paying for some of Olam, I can hear a rattle in the jam jar.

This is where need a culture that attracts or retains players for unders.

This is where I think Jerome could really help, not just symbolically, but because he can’t quite hide his intelligence and players look up to that.

Also we need to provide players and families with bells and whistles during their tenure. Good life experiences, chances to study and critically, connections with good people.

A club players want to come to -apart from footy. I think Richo understands this as Rusty was big on it.

You’d have to be living carefree to have hair like that.
He looks like one of those guys who talks to shrubs and insects when he’s by himself. “ rocks have feelings too” brigade.

The last band he probably signed was “the sherbs”

Invented an instrument nobody liked playing.

Good to see him in a list next to Rear Admirals and Justices etc

Make or break for both Sullivan and Sezer this year, who get first crack..
we may need only one of them,or maybe neither of them in 2025 with latu,Galvin,Large Douhie all ideally looking to be Luais halves partner going forward
Suspect Galvins size and Larges raw speed will possibly transition them out of the halves to 13 and 3/1 respectively...and sadly anything but a demonstrable full knee recovery from Douhi in 2024 plus a return to 2021 form and reliability in defence ,will make him free agent if he doesnt deliver
Gonna be a watershed year in the halves to say the least

Douhie won’t be around next year

Api is a massive for positive cultural change.

I feel alot of the positive direction is emanating from him.

Not being able to reform dropkicks would mean they came here and re-offended. I can’t think of any player that we have given a second chance to whose gotten themselves sacked. Players we have picked up off the scrap heap who just haven’t performed on the field is another thing entirely.
Wish Api was 3 years younger.

Wish Api was 3 years younger.
Yeah, here’s a big fat revealing interview from him, I would commend all apiphiles to partake of, even in the car, which is a good place to feed the WT addiction.

When one is sorting out the truth from the spin from Official and indeed our second rate footy media, interviews like this are essential, riveting and enjoyable.

This would be one of my favourite interviews of all time, Api is very comfortable, honest and fearless because he’s so powerful a player. He doesn’t have anything to prove.

In his element here, no repeated and excruciating singing of his own praises.

If you haven’t listened to it, it’s worth the trouble.

In my mind, Api is a bigger and better signing than our hero Jerome.

Both are naturally gifted.
