Luke Brooks #167

We all see what we want to see Efftherest. We all jump on the bandwagon to knock someone, its easy that way, but acknowledibg someone is so much difficult. I guess - thats human nature.

The guy is not a star. He's not a leader. He's quite shy and rather in-articulate. He's so basic his favourite thing to do is to grill meat. He always lacked the personality and imagination to be the kind of player that everyone hyped him up to be. He shouldn't be the centrepiece of any team.

He's a fairly decent footy player. His style of play is highly individualistic. He has a tunnel vision way of playing in the sense that he is always 100% concentrating on what what he needs to do rather than bringing other players into the the game or looking to develop killer combinations with team mates. He is always reading what he is doing rather than what is happening in a game.

So he's perfect in that system in manly where he's basically being told not to think and to just get the ball and play a bit of footy. There is already someone thinking for him at 7 and at Fullback. He'll do OK, but he's always had that infuriating ability to look almost like the thing he was cracked up to be from time to time. He's got a great future behind him.

I note the folk spruiking the Sullivan and Sezer signings here way back when - controlling half, attacking brilliance and everything else they tried to flog us are as quiet as a lamp post…

Shocking that our best shot this year will probably end up being with Fainu and Galvin… 2 kids with 1 game between them…

One game in. Such an optimist :ROFLMAO:
To be honest I think Galvin showed more talent, especially creatively, in his first game (in a losing team) than Brooks has at Manly…. and has more of an upside to boot.

You would think that…
We didn’t replace Brooks with Galvin - Lachie was already here, and basically emerged over the off season.
If we’re looking for optimism, How’s Bud going you think?

There’s also been trials for reference…

I see. So we’re getting rid of players who don’t think? That’s the secret behind our success? Manly otoh are heading for the finals on the back of recruiting a 200 game half who doesn’t think and therefore playing the best footy of his career?
struggling to get my head around all that?

I don't think it's rocket science that playing next to a HOF half in DCE he's going to look much better & especially now that there's no more pressure of being the 7 for WT's. Brooks is playing like how he did here imo just with a much better team.
Brooks played with Benji at Tigers.

It’s amazing that those who often call into question his intelligence are too basic themselves to not see any fault in the club for persisting with someone so basic. And now that he’s gone, are still going to flounder as he plays in a top 8 team.

Two games into the season and you would swear to god Manly has never won a game before Brooks joined.
I get the pain for those that hated him choosing to jump but plenty of good players leave clubs to enjoy success at others it's not unique to Brooks. We were wooden spooners two years in a row with him it's not like it was working for him or us.

How many of those players you reference have been continually single handedly blamed for a clubs poor performances (That appear to be continuing now he's gone) as Brooks was here....

I been watching the game a long time, I can't come up with anyone...

I like Brooks but that's not a bad summation.

He does have some nice strengths that you haven't mentioned IMO

C'mon Batboy the press have been just as critical of Brooks when it suited them and now they are riding the wave. When you are not winning games the highest paid players are always the ones that are most criticised along with the coach.
Look at the crap Farah copped when he was here and the club was going bad under JT.
Stifled Brooks game was running the club, the press was revelling in it and so were a lot of the fans. Plenty believed when he left things would be so much better because he was single handledly destroying the club on and off the field - this forum was dominated by the discussion.
Well he went and we are still no closer. Benji is next in line to cop the crap because he has the highest profile and when Luai comes he will cop the same level of scrutiny.

It would be the final nail in the coffin of what some of us have been saying for years. It’s the club, not the players.
The club finally bit the bullet and removed what was our major issue and has been for many years a dysfunstional and useless board. It will take a few years to see if the problem has been adequately solved imho.
At least i see possible hope now if the owners of the club keep their distance from the running of the football club

This is a massive misconception. When have the press ever singled him out over anyone else in at the club. No one has been more vitriolic than his own clubs supporters for 10 years.
