LIVE GAME Round 11 vs. Dolphins

Live Game Discussion
I like Pole but his lateral movement in the defensive line is really poor and his reading of the game is off. He's been costing us all year. Absolutely he'd look great in a good team, but his defensive lapses are worse than our other props at the moment and it's just a big liability. He's also just not a very good tackler. I'm not saying to get rid of him, as you say, he's one of our few bright spots. But his defense is a concern and it's been critical in key moments this year.
I agree. He came up with a bad miss on a kick chase I think it was when Hammer got passed him easily on that run when he eventually threw it to one of our players. If Pole wants to keep improving, he really needs to work on his D and lateral movement with some specific training.

Agree it’s dumbfounding, even at the end when we where 12 points down. I don’t get it, they kick to contested kicks regularly and us down by 12 we kick to easy catches fir them. It’s simple rather than kick ti the ten metre line and they run another 5 metres, kick it to the twenty metre contested 50/50. Worst case, they get tackled within 2-3 metres as we have players there!!
Or kick it to where they aren't not.down their throats. Some of Sullivan's kicks were atrocious.

Really getting sick of the Twal crash plays in the red zone.

Haven't they worked out yet that there is a reason it took over a hundred games to score his first try and that there hasn't been one since.
Exactly what I have been saying yet get flamed. Twal is a useless crash ball if you want to score (i feel the same with batemen tbh). Give it to klem or Stef or anyone but twal

If Robbie is the attacking coach(coz I don't really know) and we are like this then we need an upgrade - there should be attacking structures and play off the cuff (what you see in front of you) but first things first is the attacking structure should be followed then off the cuff if it presents itself but our entire squad should be drilled that they should always be ready when this happens... Galvin kicked and nobody knew what he was doing but they should always be ready for that and react - ok the kick went out dead but even if it didn't go out dead, there was no one there to tackle the player bringing out of their goal line, that's how poor it was - at least again be ready for it no matter what happens - it's just frustrating

This hasn't worked i think its clear to all, Robbie should be made to shadow Richo for the next 4 yrs learn his role so once Richo leaves we have his replacement.
Then we need to go and get a reputable attacking coach now.

Ffs this thread... if only one thing was different hey? insert name of player or ref here.

We have been a shit team for all of Bula and Galvin's life bar a couple of years. Put them in a good team and you have the equivalent of other young guns. Now I'm reading we can't carry Pole? Well then we sure as [This word has been automatically removed] can't carry Klemmer or Twal.

Look, we suck. Every week is a train wreck in its own special way I get it. The fans just piling on the few bright spots in our team doesn't make sense to me.
Yes mate couldn’t agree more,
Noticed a Centre for Manly and a second rower from the storm over the weekend go alright who were supposedly sh-t players when they were in our system.
We have an 18 & 19 year old in our starting side who are learning weekly what NRL football is all about I am glad Benji is sticking solid with these two and hopefully the other two Fainu brothers can get more time as well.
We have been told that we are going with a youth policy and hopefully they stick to it.

Fair enough mate, I was pissed in both senses of the word yesterday, I'll watch out for that more in his game as it isn't something I've noticed.

8 Years and counting, He'll get over eventually....
I remember when he tried it over a little bloke (Mahoney maybe) and got absolutely folded 1 on 1...

What's worse, Is that there's been 3+ coaches now, That think a settler on the 4-5th in the Red Zone is good for the team....
It's nuts, We're the only team that plays like that...

I understand the need for structure in today's game and understand that Benji is trying to instill this into a young team.

BUT I don't understand why we can't blend structure with just as a big a focus on 2nd phase play. We score more tries from unstructured play from offloads than structured play.

We have players who can offload & juniors coming through who can offload and play eyes-up footy. This I feel would work better with a spine of Api-Bud-Galvin & Bula.

It stops the players getting caught up on which play they are trying to produce and helps take advantage of a jagged defensive line.

Why oh why!!!

We actually are supporting the ball runners reasonably well and are one of the best teams in the comp at offloading the ball. Our attack breaks down in second phase.

The boys are trying hard but we just lack match winners. No speed in the backs and small pack. It really does not matter what we do until we get some hard nosed first graders and some pacy backs. Our defence has improved but no shape in attack which is so predictable. I don't know what they practice for 7 days every week? It's same plays every week.
Lets hope Souths and Titans stay on the same trajectory for the rest of the season or 3rd spoon coming.
Titans way too good and have too many classy players to be where they are for too much longer and that just leaves us and Souffs.

Hate to say it, but I think it's only a matter of time before Souffs turn it around leaving us with another spoon.

Hope I am wrong.

I agree - need a higher footy IQ instilled or installed in some of them (if you can install it) 😆

What choice did we have?
You'd think that the NRL would see all the NSW teams v Qld teams in Magic Round in the draw. All they have to do is reverse the home games, so we could have played Dolphins at home earlier this year.

Instead we face Bennett and his team of all stars twice in Qld. I call BS. It would have been easy for the NRL to make things more fair for NSW teams.

The NRL either deliberately chose to give Qld all the advantages again, or they couldn't be arsed organising the draw fairly. Tigers, Manly and Souths were dudded IMO, not for the first time.
