Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Not overs, just opportunity.

Kamikamica may be pushed down the pecking order at Storm soon, whilst Sharks have AFB coming so one of their middles will have to make way (possibly Hunt). Both would take on leadership roles at the Tigers if they came. Not sure we'd need to pay much over $450k for either.

Just speculating that a middle rotation of Kamikamica-Hunt rotating with Klemmer-Pole next season would be solid grunt.

Anyway hope that Stef is resigned on a good, fair contract.
I think you mean re-signed.

I don't happen to know the itineraries of every Head Coach, so can't help you there.

It doesn't look like anything if he takes a break, unless you buy into the scuttlebutt and rag-mag rubbish that companies like News Ltd spew out to create faux controversy. If you want to get onboard with the fabricated outrage and simple-minded black/white approach to all challenges, go for your life.

I also don't consider Richo such a weak or inexperienced operator that he would rubber-stamp a vacation for the Head Coach if he didn't think it was acceptable.

But, sure, do your fake keyboard outrage, maybe send a text to some of your mates about it.
lol I think I can see who’s outraged. Chill bro 😎

What would you have hoped Benji do over the bye period?

Just not go away?
Be in the office?
Create gameplans?

I'm just curious....you probably don't always succeed at work. Are you suggesting your boss expects you to have no leave until you do things to his satisfaction?

What action could Benji take to make you happy?

I'm not trying to pick a fight. I know there's 2 schools of thought on this, but the no holiday side hasn't really put forward a case of what he should be doing instead...so far all I've heard is "no holiday for you" because we've lost 8 in a row.

I've stated my opinion on how it looks externally to the media and potential players we're looking to recruit. I'm not going to waste time arguing about it, people can disagree with me.

At the end of the day (stealing Richo's terms), Benji will be judged on results and he hasn't had a great start.

Thats like saying you can just forget about the off season, just because we have a bye doesn't mean you can't work on things get your structures down pat. Maybe try and change something up that might not be working, i would suspect there's a fair bit of heavy lifting to be done in our attacking area's. Get things done repetitively so its muscle memory.
Its not just Benji remember the knights players went to Bali during a bye last season or the season before, they got hammered in the media too.
Benji is only a baby in his coaching career there is plenty he doesnt know, maybe if he was a 10 yr veteran has some runs on the board there might not even be a story here to tell but there is and its not great optics.

Fair enough...actually I'm not surprised there's push back on him going away given the results.

I was just curious what would have been acceptable.

I think during a "crisis" people expect the leader to lead the way in self sacrifice.

It was more a philosophical question generally rather than it being aimed at you. We're all good my man.

I think the Knights started their long successful run to the finals straight after they had a break. Sometimes you need a freshen up.

Unfortunately we need a freshen up of the roster so no chance for us this year.

I get your point man...I'm in the camp that it wouldn't make any difference and I'll tell you why. I do understand the optics argument too and don't disagree that he was going to cop some flak given results.

We've had 8 losses in a row. What is Benji going to find this week that he couldn't find in the past 8?

We simply don't have the players to compete. An extra week of Benji without his players and staff probably isn't going to move the dial. A few guys are playing busted. Maybe the week off will do them some good.

I didn’t say it wasn’t normal or a planned thing. I said it’s not a good look when we’ve just lost 8 in a row.

It brings more negative attention to the club who we don’t need while we’re trying to recruit players.

What crap. Do you honestly think Benji taking a week off impacts any part in recruiting a player let alone anything Buzz says?

Like let’s be serious here. Him going to Fiji has zero impact on recruitment. Especially when players have rlpa agreed terms about bye week off from training etc anyway.

The club is judged on its results and Benji is only a part of the problem - we ve been down this path before - and we would be naive to think that any coach alone is the solution.

Benji going is a bad look

He could’ve stayed and actually reviewed tape or come in when no one is around to try and work out a new plan around our attack

When you’re losing …. players look at the “boss” to get inspiration and follow their lead.

If he doesn’t understand this then it’s bc he grew up with perhaps a different, privileged mind set than other players bc he was a unique one off talent who - yes hard to work really hard - but he never had to work hard to get his talent - he had it like no one else.

People say “generally” talented players make bad coaches and vice versa bc they didn’t have to work as hard as the toilers for their success. Yes Billy slater is killing it but he grew up with the storm system. Benji grew up with sheens saying “score 32 if they score 30… and play what you see don’t worry about building pressure”.

Benji is not Wayne or Craig - he hasn’t learnt the respect as a coach. His reputation as a great has given him a slight grace period with younger players who looked up to him but after 8,9,12 losses in a row we everyone starts to lose faith.

. If he doesnt get results quick and it looks like not only Steff but juniors like galvin and others don’t sign extensions bc they ( them, their managers or family) want to be in successful clubs… I think he’ll be shown the door or at least another senior assistant will be brought in

API not making origin despite people saying it’s a good thing is absolutely horrendous for us

Shows other players at our club they get penalized in our club bc of our results

He was a certainty before 8 losses on the trot

Benjis “eyes up football” is so bad. He or Robbie never created a consistent winning team for us when they were players - always good or bad… not like Billy slater at the storm or fitzy at roosters.

Steff not signing an extension already means he will 99% go… unless we offer him so much more than someone else. Who can blame him tho?

Most likely 3 wooden spoons in a row!!! That’s so so bad.
Let him go if you look at Steph's games this year, I think he has only had 1 good game,
The rest of his games he is sighted in first 10 mi and maybe the last 5 min.

I would rate the effort Seyfarth puts in as better than Steph.
Let him go if he wants to.

Seyfarth looks like he is working out his lungs. Steph is either gassed when he starts or just doesn’t want to push himself.
This is in defence mostly.
