Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You’d think the way he’s been discussed in recent years - both here and on other clubs forums
that he’d actually done something…..

he’s where he is for a reason, smart business would be to leave him there…
If he’s not coming on at a couple other clubs - he’s not coming on here
Still can't believe Sticky took him back.

Wasn’t it up to Pascoe to run the salary cap and decide how much to pay players ?

Benji isnt involved in that
Regardless of whatever the contract value was, Benji still was the one that wanted him and surely he would of been aware of what the contract value was before taking him on.

He would be a fool to take him at what he considered an unrealistic price because ultimately it effects his salary cap and the personnel that he can have in his top 30, which then effects his success or failure as a coach.

The story that kept coming out of the Wests Tigers was that they didn't sign anyone that Benji didn't want and I know the old story about under performing clubs having to pay more etc. but come the end of the day Benji has to take at least some of the responsibility.

Does Benji get everyone he wants ?

No .. sometimes the other player asks for more money than what the club is prepared to pay …like what should have happened this time…

Benji doesnt have to concern himself with making the salary cap work …that’s the CEOs job…

From bits and pieces I believe the board had too many fingers in these decisions more so than Pascoe

It’s likely this deal would have been within Pascoe’s authority … he had to refer some deals based on the amount and length … I would assume 4 years at $500-600k a year …whilst a vast overpayment for Sullivan would have been within his authority

At any rate, I’m glad Benji has not just gone overseas for winter break but has also spent some time out to feature in Home Beautiful mews magazine:

Behold his award winning kitchen, featuring marble accent, colour coded fridge and interesting spherical lampshade.

Down the passage a bit, this wondrous home features a grand piano for Benji to do his justice to Mozart or Beethoven.

One of my favourite rooms, seems to feature a Fred Flintstone inspired coffee table sitting on ancient Nordic patterned rug.

This wonderful decor reflects Benji’s affection for modernism and represents his continued evolution as a cultural phenomenon.

The lack of any obvious game paraphernalia, suggests he takes his personal independence from his career very seriously.

Of course the penchant for modernism, disavows and displaces historical artefact.

Has anyone replaced Sawicki?

I know Richo's off in the UK, a man on a mission.

But, I believe there's untapped footy gold in Fiji and New Zealand.
Do we still have scouts, or is it now Zoom and insta ??

No, Pascoe should have had absolutely nothing to do with that, other than checking we were under the cap he should have had zero involvement with the football department, same with the board. None should be involved in the day to day operations

Benji is not negotiating with these signings about how much money they get ..

“We“ meaning Lee and Pascoe ?

Sure …
Neither of them should have had any involvement in offers being made. They are not in the football department. The GM of football ops should have overseen all this. That's what Sheens was hired to do, but then of course the club shat itself and blew up all the structure of the football department.
Regardless, the ceo and board should have had absolutely nothing to do with the management of the cap or size of contracts offered.

With Richo at the helm there's at least a boss with football management experience. So the need for a GM of football isn't as necessary.

It seems to me that Benji has a secret yearning to be accepted into the more illustrious and well heeled strata of society. An itch he needs to scratch.

Hes admitted to buying some of his stuff from ikea, that’s simply not going to cut it in civilised society these days.

Undermines the purported architectural aesthetic proposition of the linear theme.

He certainly would be involved in the conversation. Not with a final say but how much there paid has a huge impact on his ability to do his job this year and in the future.
Most clubs give their coaches a lot of control over the cap. Benji being a rookie may be a bit different

Pascoe and the club learnt their lesson allowing Cleary to sign up duds like Packer and injured crocs like Matulino and McQueen… no chance Benji gets a say in how much players get paid
