Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Are they?

Every Burgess Brother went well here (unsure how much ESL they played).
James Graham really earned his stripes.
Yes the Bulldogs got a second front rower, that did average when he was meant to be a gun.

Flip it with the backs we get here. I can't recall a single Pom back going well here unless they were already playing NRL i.e. Pat Richardson coming back to us.

I hope Richo isn't buying backs.
George Williams? Gareth Widdop?

I feel that Royce Hunt ticks so many boxes for us, he could well be our next silent signing if we can offer something to Sharks to release for '25.

He's big, explosive, good defence, experienced, more of an impact middle, wouldn't cost the world & part of the Samoa national team (Luai etc).

What do Sharks need that we can offer?

Galvin?

Haha … only the Wests Tigers trade their few good players away to entice someone to come here “early”…

Remind me who did we get when we let Iet Ice and Simpkin go early ?

I thought the idea was to sign new players to improve the overall squad ? Not to maintain the status quo by letting someone else go in return … that’s how you stay at the bottom

In the story it says Sharks will consider an early release (for '25) for something in return, how good teams do it. Really they won't want him for next season anyway with their number of props & AFB incoming.

They are light for up-and-coming backrowers so maybe Tumeth may interest them as someone they can develop further. Or potentially Sullivan (with us paying a chunk) depending on how they rate Atkinson, Dykes & Puru as backups to Hynes, Trindall.

You are dreaming suggesting they would be interested in players that we don’t want and are openly tying to move on like Sullivan and Tumeth ..they would want one of our few good players in return ..

What other player trades actually happen apart from Olam/ Blore where the Storm gave up a player they didn’t want anymore and we gave up an up and comer like Blore …?

Other clubs refuse to give up players in these moves …Truly elite players leave early like Fonua-Blake and Fisher Harris and don’t get traded for players ….why should we give up anything for a player liike Hunt who has achieved very little to date…and then no doubt have to pay him big money/overs as well?

We let players go regularly early and never seem to even request a trade

Different clubs see different things in players. Tumeth is SOO U19 rep from 2 seasons ago who has plenty of NSW Cup experience for a 21yo and maybe reminds them of a younger Teig Wilton. He'd only be on a minimum salary so would save them space. Just using him as an example.

Remember we have moved on the likes of Zane Musgrove, Ken Mamaulo etc in recent times. A lot of different things at play including managers & how much we would chip in too.

And maybe we get Royce anyway without a trade. I can't remember, did Bulldogs send anything their way for Sharks to release Connor Tracey?

Yes. Sharks wanted a highly touted junior from Bulldogs.

The Royce Hunt article suggests they would want the same in return for releasing Royce.

Edit: The person we should really be targeting is right there tho. Oregon Kaufusi being off contract is probably the reason why the Sharks want to move Royce on.

I just don’t want the Tigers to be giving up good players like Blore to get players here early ….no one else does it …so it can’t be a good idea…

Tumeth can’t even make our injury and suspension depleted team so he won’t be making the Top 4 Sharks …. dont see why they would be interested in him .. even at minimum… he is proven to be a waste of a roster spot here ..

I just hope they get somebody in the forwards soon ,,. I’m not even that keen on Hunt …looks overweight and doesn’t seem to play a lot of minutes … but he is somebody I guess and would be in our Top 17….

If we want Hunt .. we should just after him .. we don't have to give the Sharks any player .. the Sharks said he could go to market. He's a great destructive 20 to 25 minute a half player .. bring him on half way through the 1st half .. then sit him down after half time and bring on him with 20 minutes to go in the 2nd half .. typical Royce Hunt game of footy .. !! He's seems to have a big engine .. so who knows we might get longer minutes out of him as we don't have a big rotation of props like the Sharks do.

John Morris had a big influence on his career when Royce started at the Sharks so we have that link. I've read he's a standard-setter in the gym (200kg+ bench press) & brings plenty of energy & aggression to the training paddock not to mention an off-the-back-fence impact middle. I feel those ingredients are what we need more of in the club.

Xavier Willison – Bronco’s - Prop
Kaufusi – Sharks - Prop
Tapuha – Sharks – Prop
Royce Hunt – Sharks – Prop
George Delaney 20yrs Pommy - Prop
Jack Williams – Sharks – lock forward
Tallis Duncan – Souths - lock forward
Matt Doorey – Eels – 2nd Row
Junior Nsemba Pommy - 19yrs - backrower, 105 kg, 195cm
This is the hit list of players touted on this forum we should be having serious talks with.
And that's just for a revitalise pack.

I get your point, the bloke is 29 this year

Age is a common denominator at the Tigers

I can understand an argument for Royce Hunt as an impact bench forward.

If he is counted on to be more of a starting contributor, I am not convinced he's that guy.

If he's purely an impact forward- he needs to be paid accordingly.

I'm not sure the money/role are going to meet the value to a club like the Tigers. I'm pretty certain the Tigers would need to pay 'overs' for a guy that literally plays 10-15 minutes a game. Doesn't seem wise.
