LIVE GAME Round 18 vs. Storm

Live Game Discussion
IMHO, the major reasons we lost against one of the benchmark teams are:
- our awful defence and a huge number of missed tackles;
- unforced errors, we have to play at least 20-30% better to win a game;
- accept Koroisau, Galvin, Bula, Pole, and Fuina Bros we do not have players that could compete with players from the other clubs;
- Klemmer and Utoikemanu are always outplayed by our opponents -> meters run per possession are, at best, 10 m less, possession after possession, game after game;
- our options on the last tackle are by far behind our competitors;
- the refs and bunker were the deciding factors in too many games. For plays that were not even considered questionable, we get either tries denied or 10m bin/ejections. I think these are in the majority due to an awful refs/bunker quality and criteria consistency. The result is that even 50/50 calls are for us 20/80 at best.

And what to say about the Ch 9's clowns "SOO"? In their words, "the example of how the game should be played" is really, just a Micky Mouse parody of the league.
The refs/bunker do not even consider plays for which the WT gets at least 10m bin or is punished for several games. How could this parody of the league be called the best when the rules for the "SOO" are so much different?
The league games and "SOO" must be played under the same rules!

We made it easy for them with dumb ass errors in our own end that they took advantage of. Fataape in the bin against a team with the likes of Paps lurking at the back was always going to end in disaster.

When can we secure some SPEED!!
The way the game has evolved, with six agains and less stoppages, speed has become the unstoppable factor more so than ever. In any given game players with sheer speed come to the fore. Faalogo and Paps tonight against us. Koula and Saab for Manly tonight. Walsh for Brisbane. These guys win games every week making something out of nothing.

Bellamy was pretty complimentary of our effort tonight. Said he thought we would be a force in the next 2 years. Hope he's right. The guys we've signed for next year will help but we obviously need quite a few more quality recruits to complement our young blokes like Galvin and Fainu and the new guys.
We'll only be a force if he agrees to coach us

Case in point, AD makes a clean line break and gets cut down (should have looked inside to Bula). Game changer from 18-6 Tigers to 12-10.

Staines catches a nice Sezer cross field chip and instead of taking on Paps with speed he bloody kicks it. 18-16 Tigers becomes 12-16.

AD not quick enough to score in the corner, bounces it.

We lose by 12.

As you said, other teams have backs who ice these moments, speed is usually a factor.

Lobb, Alimano and Faataape are barely KOE standard, but Lobb is exceptional in the air and can kick goals which elevates him above the other two. I would play him on the wing until Tupou returns. Staines has the other wing spot for lack of alternatives.
id cut Faataape,persist with Alimano,big frame has the pedigree,all this talk about our juniors,how many have stepped into 1st grade this year 2soon? makes me nervoues we b rushin them

I was at the game. Some observations

Olam is busted, early game you could already see his gait suggests an ongoing injury. Someone said something about calf. Gosh I hope it’s not his knee.

Galvin was terrible. Honestly terrible. Arm grabbing, couldn’t read the attacking line. Couldnt set up a play. Crowded his centre.

I want to say for the record. I am not convinced that he is half and I’m even less convinced that he wants to stay.

Bateman leads line speed at some critical points. He is very vocal as well.

Bula looked better. I was watching his positioning and couldn’t fault it. Obviously there were plenty of times I would have been distracted ranting about the ref…

Stef… same observations as the rest of you.

The kick to Stains was the first time I have seen us use his speed since he joined the club

did you notice Matamua,your thoughts

Same problems week In and week out keep haunting us, Sin Bins are killing us.
This is a tough gig for a rookie coach, I love benji but sheesh, he may have to take up another holiday soon because his mental would be taking it’s toll, as is all the fans mental.
At this level is it too much to ask for basic fundamentals from the players?
Wtf is up with our last tackle choices?
I see our team with so much potential it just frustrates me seeing them do silly little errors that determine the games outcome.
The one positive thing out of this season so far is that… if we keep all players on the field for 80mins (no sin bins) it’s going to make us feel as if we have an advantage haha.
Cmon tigers, time to give this season the finger and run home strong… bring on the sharkies
And aim for a better season next year, but let’s go out strong 💪💪

Given the players we have, the young side, the lack of experience, the constant line up changes throughout the year, an inexperienced coach, the side did pretty well against the 1st placed Storm.

Was not expecting to lose by only 12 and we had a player, yet again, sin binned which didn't help.
