Stefano Utoikamanu #241

I think the deadline thing has always backfired. I don't really hear other clubs impose deadlines.

They simply carry on about their business and if the right player comes up, they hit the button and let the guy that's procrastinating walk.

Stef is sadly on his own in our pack. We don't have a one/two punch. Two props that can take second and third tackle, get a quick play the ball and set the scene for the edges against a retreating defence.

Twal and Klemmer are too slow in the ptb to get us on a roll. Twal is an honest player, but isn't aggressive enough. Klemmer has had his best days.

With the money Stef is asking for, I think it ties up a lot of cash for a player that hasn't performed consistently yet. Perhaps he will, but 800k is minutes and consistency money. He's probably worth about 650k today.
I understand not putting a deadline on as you say has backfired on us previously. I think Panthers sat Turuva out for a week so he could focus on his contract decision and Turuva said it was the right call. We are hearing he wants to wait until Parra announce their coach. To me that is taking the Pi55. Its alot of money we can invest elsewhere

We can pull the current offer off the table and he can stay next year on his current deal.
he needs to make a call , if Parra hand down who is coach Monday , then he should be given 3 days to decide , if it’s Ryles and Parra have made an offer , take it and move on , One point we all forget is does the new coach want Stef , Parra may want him but he may say no chance I’ve got other plans and some one who wants to follow me to Parra , , o

I hear ya buddy. I don't think Richo is waiting around to find out. I think he's out there looking for a replacement because he knows the outcome already. Stef played like he had one foot out the door yesterday. He's as good as gone.

Unfortunately it does look like Stef is playing that bad we are stuck with him as he pisses away any chances of teams wanting to pick him up for $800K+ a year playing as shit as he is. The same can be said for Klem, its clear he has a 2 year contract left and is playing that shit he doesn't want to be shopped/advertised over to the SNL to break offload his contract, no other club wants to pick him up either. We are stuck with 2 complete shithouse props with zero output for the foreseeable future. Yay
Stef is young and will get better. Klemmer on the other hand is mature but his stats are no better than Stef's most games. I am over Klemmer turning his back to the opposition and slowing down the play the ball. Everybody is awake to his attempted offloads which are very rare these days. Steph needs more help and like his teammates is too gassed after the numerous stupid errors.

Get rid of stepho and KLEMMER and chase the either the saifti brothers or go and pick up a couple of forwards from the sharks they are over loaded and will be again next year when the warriors prop comes

I dont for a second believe that Steph has a fondness for Parra and wants to return. They treated his brother like crap and only gave him 5 minutes in his debut.

Also, what does it matter which coach is chosen? None of the applicants are impressive enough to draw Steph toward their club. The only drawcard for Parra is $$$ and I think our offer is better. It is the Melbournes and Chooks that are the real threat and they don't seem to have prolonged interest.

If he elects to commit to us for next year, then Richo should push an extension and remove the ridiculous clauses in his current deal. It will look bad if he uses us for one year and waits until the bigger clubs have room for him. He will lose a lot of public support in this scenario.

Just seen on google news the raiders are out of the race for stepho , it says he told raiders he would not go there , so I am guessing he has a club lined up , my 3 clubs are , storm , roooters , Newcastle if they can off load , saifiti . But roooters are fav

I would love to pull the offer on him. Say we are going in another direction. If you want to stay in 25 we will honour the contract with you playing off the bench. Wipe him.
I think eventually a deadline will need to be put on this to either sign with another club or sign the extension. Past the deadline the extension is pulled and if he decides to stay it is for his existing contract, with no guarantees the money wont be headed elsewhere. It is dragging out for too long and very publically.

He's actually not all that far off what he was achieving last season in the grand scheme of things.

Problem is, there's too many "below 100" games in a short period of time. Almost the exact point of time his contract became an issue.

He's not what you call a 'premier' prop. But he has the ability to be.

Problem is- there isn't much available to replace his style with. If we are going to lose Utoikamanu, I think the club needs to re-think the direction we go with the forwards. Like I have said before, the Dolphins have found success with a bunch of forwards who don't crack 100m a game. No real stars, but they nullify what the opposition throw at them. I'd suggest the Roosters are similar in style.

stef is contracted to us for the next 2 years though so we can't pull the offer can we ?
All it means is he is free to look around but ultimately can elect to stay and we can't do anything about it
if he doesn't move on we can have the same circus next year too
The offer is an extension on bigger money. We can pull that if we want to but we have to honour his current deal

I wonder how the get out clause actually activates in terms of he can go, but when do we know the cap money is available for next year? Is there a time frame he has to activate it.
Wot a shite sandwich left by previous management, impacting his motivation, contribution to team, unclear cap position 2025, and roster instability.
