Coaches? Players? Management?

At some stage or another it has been mainly the coaches but also players & management (or all 3) that gets the blame in the press & elsewhere over the Wests Tigers dismal lack of success for over a decade.
Once again we are seeing players who we were told in the media (and even on this forum)"haven't performed" or "not of NRL standard" or "not putting in the effort" thriving once they don the jersey of another team.
Coaches have copped the brunt of the criticism over the years as the turnover of coaches at Concord attest.
Seeing stories like this are like a kick in the guts. The Manly Sea Tigers are flying high, Blore is killing it South of the Border. It's nothing new, it's been the same sad tale for over a decade.
The only glimmer of hope is the plethora of talented, but inexperienced young guys coming through our juniors. However, how many of them will WANT to STAY at the Tigers when the glamour clubs (no doubtedly) come calling cheque book in hand? How do you convince these young guys that it's in their best interest to remain loyal to a club that has become the laughing stock of the NRL?

As i have always stated the problem starts from the TOP which is the board and flows down from there. Finally changes were made late last year to rectify the gaping wound at our club (sacking the board). However it will take time for it to percolate through the club as we still need to see who the 3 new appointed members are.It is a concern however that 2 of the board were put back in power by the club (Julie and Dennis).

I’m not too sure the painter is the right guy for that job either?

I want aware of that? So three from the old board are still there? Bloody hell!

Well they are stumping up all the dough (including for Balmain's juniors) & yet games are still 50/50 at Campbelltown/Leichhardt & the Centre of Excellence is a lot closer to Lilyfield than Lumeah.

If you were putting in 90% of the cash into an enterprise wouldn't you demand the biggest say in how it is run?

Just a reminder, the Wests Tigers only premiership & it's most successful seasons came under the guidance of a CEO from Western Suburbs.

The Magpies could have just taken over the club lock stock & barrel, fully embracing the Macarthur, building the Centre of Excellence there & playing all games out of Campbelltown.
Some of the most respected people in the NRL (retired players, coaches, commentators etc) have actually called for this to happen, for the club to move forward & play out of one home ground they can turn into a fortress.

This Balmain v Western Suburbs infighting is part of the reason the club has performed so poorly for a decade or so but c'mon $$ talks & until Balmain can put in 50% of the funding you can't expect them to have an equal say in how the club is run.

Whoever is in charge- they have to be strong enough to ride out bad times instead of constantly sacking coaches hoping to find a fix.

Whoever coaches- needs to know what players they are taking on board from the previous regime & know who fits & doesn't fit with the style & move quickly to solve that.

Whoever plays- needs to adjust to the new coaches game plan or be open/willing to move on to other opportunities.

In the end- chopping & changing the coaching philosophy impacts the players we put on the field, the players we sign, develop & also the players that regress once coming here no longer fitting the style of new coaches etc. CHANGING COACHES should never be the easiest option. No continuity in playing style means you get the mis-match of player types that the Tigers currently field- a group of players that probably don't fit anyone's style as a group.

The board isn't the top of the club, it is ownership, which is the Holman Barnes Group.

They are still there and our performance and decision making reflects that. If pokies took the field, we might be alright.

Yep, nothing has changed in that regard.
We think we’ve seen change, but all that has happened is more sackings (blame game). The delay in appointing new WT board members could be due to waiting for dust to settle before choosing.
My guess is candidates from all over the world will be considered only to find the positions will be filled by Ashfield residents. 😜
Like Pascoe’s appointment we look under our noses last. 😂

It is a damming inditement of our recent coaching ranks that players we have allowed to move to other clubs have excelled in their new environments despite the hammering they endured during their tenures with our club though.

Some people have pretended that former Wests Tigers players who have been released are not playing better at their new clubs … sorry but that is utter BS ..

I don’t know what the explanation is … several of these guys played under Maguire who we know is at least mid level coach … but he couldn’t get anything out of them either ..

Do we know where Wests Ashfield prefers them to play …Leichhardt or Cambo?

Weve tried everything else, Wests are the constant. They are the unchanged element.
This club will turn the corner when they relinquish ownership.

We've just got to get the whole mix right & demand excellence across the whole club (admin & football). It will take time & Richo will be working on it across all levels.

By whole mix, I mean coaching staff, player development, strength & conditioning, sprint coaching, wrestling, sports psychology, medical, other specialist coaching (tackling, kicking, passing, goal kicking, drop kicking) pathways player development, player contracts, player welfare etc etc.

The club needs to strive to be #1 in football operations & development asap through its staff & structures.

I have a rough idea?
Remember when Madge was being continuously hauled in for some “robust discussions”? The outcome was the board wanted a transfer of responsibilities from HC to Board. I think Brooks may have been caught in the crossfire at one point when he was asked to explain why he was dropped, but he said..”that’s news to me”
I think Richo explained it very well with his remark, “people need to stay in their own lane.”
