I don't get all the negativity about Porter. His first grade appearances have been very solid. He's a good defender and pretty athletic and I think he was better than both Bateman and Papalii on an edge. He's very limited in attack, but does his job consistently. A bad game in a team that got hammered should not discredit his good performances in 1st grade and his reasonably consistent performances this year.

I think our forward pack actually looks alright this week, but my opinion usually changes when the whistle actually blows.

Honestly I think they are just assessing cost v benefit. He is older than Latu (alternative back up half), costs the same and probably has roughly the same upside.

If no salary cap, sure persist with him. I also believe he will end up a regular first grader.

Yet, we have deficiencies at prop, second row, lock, centre, winger… so I’m assuming they just decided they need to make a call and then try to free up cash to fix these gaps.
Convincing a man to walk away from a lucrative contract when he knows he isn’t being treated well or even as some others are, will be hard work.
Why risk creating an adversarial relationship with a bloke contracted here for 3 more years? Kill them with kindness…

If Stef has signed with storm on the reported 3 years $ 900 k drop him now give another kid a crack , may as well sort the young men from the boys , make or break them

Are some of the comments serious here? Surprise that Bateman, Klemmer and Doueihi were dropped. But after the last game everyone was calling for them to be dropped. Thought there would be some more elation than this
It beggars belief @Sco77y .
It is refreshing to see these bold moves. I love the fact that Benji does not share the same sunk cost fallacy delusion that former coaches had.
The season is gone. Might as well see if players who might need experience can develop, rather than keep selecting underperforming bigger names who expect to retain their spot simply because they have experience.

The warriors are giving a fan the chance to win the ultimate experience.

They will be able to sit alongside the match day squad for Friday nights game.

They will be able to sit on the bench, and given the quality of the opposition may even be given 10 minutes on the field.

Who knows after the game we might be able to sign the winner to a 4 year contract.

He is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic!
That’s right and as we prepare to take that final plunge, we’ve gotta find the deck chairs (players) that are going to float the longest.

Captain Benji steering us straight into the iceberg in his designer naval jacket. A couple of refs and someone up from the ships bunker as lookouts.

You must of forgotten when the roosters dicked us by 70. Storm same.
Last week we lead after 60 mins with a young side.
It’s a slow burn but the trend is up.
Haven’t forgotten. We were playing a shite bunnies side and scored a few tries via jungle ball. We don’t play with any application… trend isn’t up but sure maybe we’re where we always are.

I’ve never coached a professional sport so not sure if my next statement applies.

In a workplace it is important that people feel safe. People need to feel that as long as their intent is right, the effort is right, then they will get some grace if they make mistakes. We all make them. Everyone has a bad day, bad project, bad customer meeting whatever…

Luke had a shocker. Drop him now, because of one game and you just create fear.
I seem to recall players like Lockyer, Minichiello and Dylan Edwards making some poor errors as young men.

Having some experienced teachers may help?
Klemmer, Api, Bateman, Papali’i, Sezer, Olam on field.
Marshal, Farah, Morris and Heighington off field
There are plenty who have been there and done that in this organisation who the squad is working with daily.

So do we now stop dropping players out of fear for their “development” as opposed to punishing them for not performing to FG standard? I get dropping the ball from a good hit but dropping the ball from a pass with no pressure and allowing the opposition to pick it up and run? Makes no sense to me

Does it make a difference this year? We are going to run last again.

Do you play the older mistake prone player you are hoping to offload or the younger player you have high hopes for that has been making mistakes.

Hopefully the 2nd example doesn’t become the first with time

Yeah it does matter because you uphold a standard that players need to adhere to don’t you? Or is it more of a case of we don’t want to hurt the kids feelings because he could leave at any time to another club

Hard to please people…
Majority of posters have been negative about Bateman & Klemmer also AD - now they are sidelined and we’re still not happy?
Hats off to Benji for making what are often tough calls each week with very few realistic options in depth.
Personally I would have played Seyfarth instead of Porter, but that may still happen for the majority of the game.
Fingers crossed for Latu - i may have gone with Bud to allow Latu more time to develop confidence in KOE.
