I only noticed him a couple of times. He didn’t do much but hasn’t been back there long. I did catch his interview and he confirmed he is in fact a flog

I mean, marginally yes. Hastings has done a little better then Brooks. He was clearly more halfback then Brooks and clearly a better organisational footballer.
That said, he hasn't set the world alight at Newcastle.
If the roumers are true, we moved Hastings on to get Bateman.... Correct, hindsight Horrible move.
I don't think that was the big mistake.
The big mistake was not thinking big. Adam Reynolds. Break open the bank, Madge coached him at Souths and he would have surely prefered a Sydney home. We for some idiotic reason target Hastings over Reynolds. Brisbane signed Reynolds and signed him for 800k. (from memory). Had we brought Reynolds here, told Brooks he was playing 5/8 and told Doueihi to do something else (fullback?), WE would have had a spine.

I’m not sure how likely Reynolds was of ever coming here … however ,,
the problem with moving on Hastings is that it exposed the lack of half depth to the extent they pretty much they were forced to play Wakeham most of last season who clearly is not an NRL level player …
Action and consequence … Tim Sheens decision making at its finest …it’s a shame he has finally moved on …

I liked Hastings when he was here . I am not suggesting he was Wally Lewis but I thought he gave as some structure and organisation in such a key position.

I'd be surprised if he's here next year, doesn't seem to fit the role required of him and is taking up far to much salary cap in a position we are low an depth.
Richo has a bit of work to do in the next 5-6 months, make or break year to get the balance of the roster right and try to hold on to the key youngsters and show some real improvement in the win column.

He only played 16 games for the Tigers yet won more games for the Tigers than Brooks did in what felt like 30 years that low IQ stooge cosplayed as a first grader. Hastings left 90% because Bateman wouldn't play in the same team and 10% Sheens wanted him at lock. Hastings all day.
If the meal was sweet and sour pork Demps and @Oldman and @BalmainJnr , I would have gladly finished his meal for him 😉.

John Bateman has arrived in England raving about the culture at Super League competition leaders Warrington under rookie coach Sam Burgess.
Less than a week after leaving Wests Tigers to join the Wolves for the rest of the season, Bateman has broken his silence, praising Burgess for what he has already accomplished after just 19 rounds as a head coach.
“Obviously Sam has brought in a good culture around the place and that’s what it’s all about for me,” Bateman said on Warrington’s Facebook page.
“If you got good culture, the players will perform for you. That’s what Sam has brought to the place.”
Bateman’s departure from the NRL came after reports emerged the English international had a falling out with Tigers coach Benji Marshall, and wasn’t happy with the treatment of the club’s senior players at the club.
Upon his return to England, Bateman wasted no time making his presence felt, attending a club training session as soon as he got off the plane.
“It’s good to be here,” Bateman said.

“It’s a big thing that the team has been building.”
Although finding a new home in Warrington for the remainder of the year, the 30-year-old is expected back at the Tigers next season.
Tigers CEO Shane Richardson confirmed that Bateman would return to the club and complete the remaining two years of his deal at the Concord club.
“John leaving Wests Tigers for the back end of the season is something that all parties are comfortable with,” Richardson said.
“John is contracted to Wests Tigers for the 2025/2026 seasons.”
Bateman’s Super League stint has opened up $150,000 that the Tigers’ will save in salary cap space, which the club is gearing up to use as part of their ‘war chest.’

Don't know, don't care. But it is always easy as an employee to put the boot in when they leave - media will eat it up. Same mindset set as blaming a coach for poor on field performances. Always easier to sack one person than the team.
