John Bateman #268

I suppose when the club is going shit, everyone thinks they can do a better job. That's the difficulty in pulling this out of the mire. Watch which players celebrate with who or how they interact with each other after ( or when ) we score. That's an indication of who is getting on. Galvin and the Fainus aren't the flavour of the month with some of the senior players. I don't know why.

Doesn't sound very helpful.

Sliding doors moment… you keep Hastings you possibly don’t get Luai plus Hastings is shite anyway
Shite for sure but so much more upside for the club if Hastings was given last year and this year at the Tigers. No Bateman, Brooks pissed off a year earlier and no old man Sezer and Dud Sullivan brought in. Its well documented Brooks didnt want to be here last year. Jerry coming next year would have had no outcome on the last 2 years with Hastings here at half. Gone next year or dropped as a back up half to make way for Jerry and keep the pressure on the halves to perform next year (Luai, Gal, Latu). He outplayed Brooks by a country mile in his 16 games in 2022. Hastings being shit or not is still better than what old man Sezer has produced here this year. Id say Sezer has had 3 maybe 4 good/adequate games this year. Tigers would have still finished each year like shit but there would have been a few more wins to feel good about this year and last with Hastings in the halves over Brooks/Sezer/Dud.

Maybe because they are showing them up.

I know why, it's because they are embarrassing the senior guys with their performances.

Yep , and they are now “the core” moving forward . The club has decided they are the building blocks , along with TDS .
When you thought you had the run of the joint , and now your surplus to requirements .
It’s pretty hard to argue with a well . A bunch of 18-19 year olds are running circles around most of the playing roster .
Sure there’s loyalty , or perceived lack there of , but how do you be loyal to a group of players who just do not show to be up to it .
No other job I. The world would tolerate that kind of under performance . You’d get performance reviewed out, or made redundant .
The only people the older players have to blame is themself .
And I really don’t think those boys are strutting around concord talking shit .

This guys really knows how to piss a supporter base off..

He turns up late every year for preseason training and goes into season not ready and is clearly not performing. The Head Coach pulls him up for it and has a cry,

Some of his comments are pure childish IMO.

If I'm Richo I'm saying pull your head in or don't bother coming back.

If he has to come back, I would demand he is here 1st day of Pre-season and not a day later.

To be honest i hope he stays in the UK because he is of little value to us especially when you consider the amount the club has spent on him

Totally agree, bar Api our senior players have been piss poor. The young blokes are making them look silly and that shouldn't be their job, the senior players should be setting the standard but they haven't. Say what you will about Benji but he has never been scared to speak his mind, Bateman has been pathetic this year and should be told not to come back.
The young blokes making the senior players look silly has been happening since Harry Grant played for Us.

When have we been happy with the performances of "senior" players?

Looking back through the years, we had the quartet of Packer, Matulino, Reynolds and Mbye. Then there was Tamou. Then you had our local juniors of Nofoaluma, Brooks and Twal.

Right now it's Bateman/Klemmer.

I'm sure all of these players would have been disappointed at their performances here and they will admit as such, but are they also being provided with the mentorship/ guidance to become a good leader?

The only exception is Api and as much as I love him, he's more of a "I'll do it myself" kind of guy than a "follow me" type leader.

I can't see of any player in the last 7-8 years that I assume would have set the standards at training, at least not from what you could see on the field. We have so many young players and I am so scared that as a club we will ruin their careers by giving them unqualified coaches and lack of leadership.
