Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Here we go. Who are they? And who is staying that is not dogging OR maybe does not have the best tutelage?
It can’t be that hard to find 17 blokes who are happy to run hard and tackle hard can it ?
You don’t need tutelage or any coaching to do it, but it’s a guarantee the pay is very good if you do it well.
Find 17 blokes with that mentality and it wouldn’t matter if it is Benji or Mary Poppins coaching, they would still make the top 8.
Jack Williams fits this description, let’s hope he’s sick of being a benchie when the Sharks are full strength and would prefer being a more import figure at a club like Wests Tigers.

Is there a limit to how many T&T contracts can be given to players per team?
Second to that do the 3k NRL match payments for T&T and Supplementary contracts apply to the Top 30 salary cap?
Good questions @Needaname . Not sure on either but I’d guess the Supp cap is in addition to the NRL top 30 cap. Wish the NRL would make the entire Salary Cap rules publicly available rather than just some key dot points.

Maybe mentioned before, Nelson to us starting to gain some traction..
To accommodate Stefano, surely one of NAS or Kakakamica or Welsh has to go.

For Sharks with AFB incoming, then Royce Hunt or Kaufusi (mutual option for 25) would be the most likely to go.

Then with Daniel Saifiti & Horsburgh being able to look elsewhere, surely we can land one of the above.

An off contract ‘money ball’ smokey could be Bunty Afoa but priority would have to be the others.

having the physical attributes is one thing, being a footballer is another. you need both to play NRL, whereas you can get away with one or the other in Cup.

Shane Richardson isn’t going to go out and sign a handful of reserve graders from the Dogs that are clear and obvious projects. he might go after a guy like Sam Stonestreet hypothetically who is ready for week to week first grade and actually possesses the talent required, but with guys like Willett, Laulili’i, Makasini, Goodfield etc in the pipeline, why would he bother with the other suggestions?

Fitzgibbon is in reserve grade for a reason. any half worth their salt in the NRL will just bait him and hit short or over the top. he can’t make the defensive reads required.

as for Ravalawa, you’re not looking at it from all angles. do you think he, much like Leilua, possesses the discipline to be what we need? in a side that is about to set the record for the most sin bins in a season? do you think we need a player that abuses match officials?

like I said, pursue Reimis Smith and Jeral Skelton. if there’s unrest elsewhere, you try and take advantage. the market is bare, but let’s not take brainless risks and give full time deals to project players.
Stonestreet is too good to be a backup winger.

I wonder whether Sharks would release one of Katoa, Mulitalo or Stonestreet??

Similar wing depth at the Dogs with Kiraz, JAC, Wilson & Skelton. We’d have to be sniffing & fair chance one of them is in the ‘couple’ of players we’ve secured from Dogs according to Willie Mason in his podcast.

unfortunately every player we have signed all are for their offensive traits, wont help if we continue to concede 40 a game

We don't have a great deal of slots left next season do we?
I know theres a post somewhere i could find it after a quick scan, but i wonder whether we have signed a player or 3 but need to offload some dead wood the Tumeth's ect to free up the spots.

Do you know when Mason was speaking about this? Wouldn't mind having a listen, but don't want to go through the whole podcast trying to find it.

FWIW I think the Dogs are on to something with their forward buys in 2024. Size seems to be a secondary consideration to leg speed and overall fitness. They don’t make many metres being ranked 15th offensively but first defensively with an average of 2.6 tries conceded.
Small busy packs may be the way the game is heading with a strong back 5 to start the sets
