Sack Marshall

11 debutants in one season -some who should be learning their craft in lower grades like they do in most other systems but desperation has advanced them, players past their best, two of our considered better players both with one foot out the door, and a motley crue of what would be depth players at most other clubs filling in the gaps - add the rookie coach a host of injuries sin bins and here we are again - take pot shots at any or all of the targets they are all contributers.
A bit of false hope again after our seasonal two wins in a row, but not surprised by our position the only surprise is who we would be fighting to avoid the spoon against.
Benji on a tight rope no doubt cause that's the way it rolls in all sport.

I’ve been saying since he was appointed that the Benji 5 year contract with a guaranteed shot as the head coach of first grade was an atrocious decision and unprecedented.

IMO the “real” rebuild cannot begin until we get a real head coach.

You can’t say just get Benji some experienced assistants. Few, if any, experienced assistants will want to work under a novice head coach.

Similarly, you can’t say let Benji step back to an assistant coach role under an experienced head coach so he can learn. An experienced head coach will want to choose his own assistants and I can guarantee you he will not want a novice as an assistant.

The preceding two paragraphs tell us all we need to know.

Richo should have a short list of candidates ready to go and Benji should be sacked within a week of our last game so we can move forward. A mid season sacking next year will waste another season.
It's the final bad decision of a dying boardroom we still need to sort out before we have fully moved on as a club from the boards incompetence. Richo needs to act and needs to act fast

Whether we like it or not, Benji WILL be given all of next season at the very least.

There is now way under Richo we do the same thing we have always done & that is sack the coach.

As many of you have said in different posts ...

1 - We have the most inexperienced roster in the NRL this season. Add our injury toll to this & no 100% blame can be placed on the coaching.

2 - He will be given a chance to recruit now & build a better roster for '25 (as has already happened in parts with Luai & Turuva).

3 - He will be given more support with an experienced assistant coach & some changes to the footy dept.

None of this I know as fact, it is just common sense and reading between the lines in everything Richo has said to date.

Stay the course people. I know we've said this for the last 15 years but we must break the vicious cycle by actually supporting & developing the coach and ridding some of the roster clogs that hold us back both culturally & performance-wise.

Similar to how the Dogs have done it in our own way.

Not saying Benji hasn't made mistakes, he's made plenty in the past 12 months but he needs to be given the support to guide him on the right track (both in game strategy & professionally in recruitment and S&C).

If we're in the same position in 12 months then I'm sure Richo will be all over it.

Can someone start a poll on whether Benji will be renewed? I have a feeling 90% of people will say NO. That's going to be the most likely outcome, so honestly we should be out looking at coaches now.

Really undecided on what they should do now with Benji…

I always thought that they should at least give him this year ,,, but things have turned out worse than even my low expectations…

The most important thing they got to do is get 5 new players or it won’t matter much who is coaching them..

People point to Benji blooding a lot of young players. I'd argue he's thrown too many in before they were ready which IMO will do more harm than good.

Miller, Laulilli x 2, Latu were all thrown in too early.

Benji was coaching most of last year as well which is plain to see as we play the exact same way. Prior to the last 2.5 years we've had good coaching but horrible management decisions above them, we now have the opposite problem.

Players like Benji, but apart from that, I haven't seen anything indicating he's a good coach.

Stop getting on the panic bandwagon with the rest of the sub-adult baby men here - we could have won that game without ONE player in Doueihi...

View attachment 14566

We already have Turuva as one of the replacement three-quarters next year & a new Origin/international halfback PLUS money to spend and an experienced operator targeting talent...

This forum should be renamed the MAN-BABY CRECHE!!

But pretty sure our wonderful mods @Lauren I@Suzie-Q didn't sign up just to wipe the hurled poo off the walls...
Don’t know about Panic Bandwagon i would name it the Reality Wagon.
And I couldn’t agree with your take on if we didn’t have Doueihi we would have won.
He has a lot of help from his teammates in losing games.

11 debutants in one season -some who should be learning their craft in lower grades like they do in most other systems,

The only issue I see these days is the reserve grade is a terrible comp and nothing even close to NRL level.
If we could send a couple of our so called upcoming 18 year old Superstars to England for 2 years to play against men and build confidence before returning ready for the NRL.
Let’s face it if they are not up to the ESL level they won’t be offering us much.

Its not a bad idea however if we are serious in developing our pathways to first grade, then we need a uniformed approach from Flegg throught KOE to NRL. Sending them to another system will not be keeping this consistency whereby we trust the next man up approach that we are apparently striving for.

Let's face it, Benji was appointed as head coach as a desperate act by Lee and Pascoe to save their own jobs by relying on fan nostalgia for 'the good old days'.

Whilst he's not a coaches bootlace (You can see that with the way the team still has literally no attacking structure at all after being head coach for this and last year). None of this 'Sheens was the coach last year' crap please.

Sacking him now is a bad idea, purely because they're no suitable replacements.

I suspect that Richo knows this and that it's a bad deal but will be planning accordingly.

If he could get Sezer to line up on the left hand side for his kicks or have the side not utterly confused about what they're doing from a scrum. I'd consider it a coaching win.

Yep it says they played 4/10 years in the semi finals inc a grand final , Tigers development = zero Finals and zero Grand finals past 10 years
melbourne , Roosters , And a few others don’t develop they raid the very best prospects , we piss around and keep what soem say are guns but are not
Just stating the facts.Eels recruited very well over past deacde...,but Arthur had little to do with that..bean counters in head office did that
I just dont see him developing local juniors any better than the coaches weve had in charge over same period
Hes no Bellamy thats 4 sure...but hes done well with what hes been given to wok with
He now has a tired roster...actually..not any more

Can I be your assistant , I’ll look after D and you can do the pressers ! And I’ll do it as a volunteer !!!! 🤣

At this stage, all I'm looking for is a cohesive structure.

I'm not that bothered if they can't score a try, but I do want to see them execute at high speed.

This is one of my big bug bears.

I don't care if they get tackled immediately and the play goes nowhere, just execute a play like you've practiced a play and know what's coming.

Yes you can be my assistant.

My pressers would be well .. not suitable for anyone on planet earth....
