IMHO.Hope he can get through this. Life is tough at the top.
Yep, it was manly’s fault.Just as an old Magpie fan who saw Boyd's career at Wests:
Les Boyd was NEVER EVER once sent off as a magpie - and he was in that era where the "gloves were off."
Yes, he copped those noted suspensions in other games, served his time, and also paid agreed compensation.
How his past raises now 40 odd years later is pretty unfair, imo.
Boyd was a fearsome player, a tough forward in a had nosed era. He was also skillful being able to play second row or prop despite being around 5ft 9inches tall. Bruce Maguire was another very tough forward, one of the best second row running forwards at that time, who joined Balmain from the Nowra Warriors. The Wok converted him into the prototype prop and the rest is history. I was watching at Leichhardt when he got among the tough Panther's pack.I was too young to remember Boyd playing
Does he deserve the HOF accolades ahead of other great forwards in the game??
Isn't he the only forward out of the 11??
If so he must have been a standout in the forwards

Name some?Forgetting the thuggery there's no doubt Boyd was a very good player.
However, to be honest, there are plenty of better players more deserving of a spot in the HOF before him.
Lets put it this way, there isnt a single forward playing today that would EVER get on top of Boyd, theyd be off trying to get out of their contract and looking to play touch footy while crying to their barber and masseuse about how hard they got hit.I was too young to remember Boyd playing

The standards and morals were way better back in the day off the field. In society general. Such a paradox on the field today. Something is amiss with society today. Something is not right. It's the problem with current society in general. Trying to judge and punish past deeds and misdemeanours through current morals and standards. Can't be done.
And plenty other immortals before Andrew Johns.Forgetting the thuggery there's no doubt Boyd was a very good player.

I’d have to go through the current list but a couple off the top of my head who aren’t in it are Paul Sironen and Greg Alexander.Name some?
