Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

believe jack has signed a 2 year deal , well thats what someone with initials dw was sprouting at a coffee shop near concord
That's ok if it's just 2 years.

A few scenarios ... Bird & Latu Fainu to rotate as lock during games; Bird to right centre inside Skelton; Bird to right backrow or Bird as our backline/forward utility on bench.

I like option 1 especially if we can get a solid workhorse backrower like Frizell to sure up our right edge defense.

Bird is a definite risk but i can see some value in him at 13 if his body holds up to it.

Faster forwards that can cover positions are becoming more crucial with the speed of the play these days and added in HIAs requiring versatility.

You would think it’s highly likely Pole has earned a promotion to become a starting prop and Hunt would become impact value off the bench. That should adequately cover the loss of Utoikamanu.
It’s hard to say if Bird will be looked at as a starting centre, back rower or 13, but if he was to start on our right edge and used in tandem with Seyfarth, I believe that’s a big upgrade from Bateman.
The sticking point is how we cover the loss of Papali’i who is now proving to be a valuable 13. In my opinion signing any of Kobe Herherington, Jack Williams, Adam Elliott or Tallis Duncan would go a long way to filling void at 13, particularly with the possibility of Latu Fainu also spending time as our 13 each game.

Stef will be replaced by Fonua.
one of Seyfarth and Bird will replace Bateman, the other will play off the bench
Horsburgh / Hetherington will replace Papali’i

looking squarely at 2024 output, Fonua leaves Stefano for dead, Seyfarth and Bird are as good as Bateman at the very least and we will miss Papali’i, irrespective of who his replacement is.

you are right though, it is a massive preseason for a number of players that will be required to take on bigger roles. time will tell.

I already had Pole in as one of the starting props next year …

The problem is that they will need to persevere with Klemmer now as the other starting prop you would think , and Hunt off the bench… was hoping for an upgrade here…

I have hated on Bateman all year ..but I’ll be shocked if Bird can adequately replace him next season

If true he must of accepted the lower salary that was offered.
Maybe Dragon paying some but if it's 2 years at 400k a season that a good buy regardless.
He does the hard stuff and is always putting pressure on other teams when we kick.
Yes for me if true

$2 mill - Hunt would be what between $400-$500K. Bird probably similar depending what the Dragons pitch in.

Horsburgh would be similar again. But we would need to release someone I think... Pending spots.

Whoever we land after Bird, I'd say we still have a fair bit of change... To'a with back ended deal?

Bird is a good buy from a covering position, can play backrow , lock , 5/8 and centre , and he gives it all no matter what position he plays

Bird for Sullivan would make it a sweeter deal!

Same manager, similar $$$, Sullivan back to his roots, Dragons do need depth in the halves! Saw it mentioned by a Dragons fan on X. We can only hope!

If we're paying Hunt 4-500k off 20 minutes a week....
We should be shot.

Blah blah blah,we will never have a roster like that as we always self destruct year after year.

Talented junior but lazy, hasn't made the transition
but we've got the pathways right since then thankfully
This surprises me. I watched him a couple of times coming through the grades and I thought his effort on the field was immense. Disappointing his work ethic off the field wasn’t as good if true. Another one I had high hopes for that didn’t work out!

He still has time on his side Wiz which is a plus I
suppose. It could go L or R for him from now on in.
He needs to stay focused this off-season and come
into work fit and ready to go to work, he's got talent
