Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

three 13s on the market, all with their respective pros and cons: Adam Elliott, Corey Horsburgh, Kobe Hetherington. I think it simply comes down to what WT want at 13. all three are players with different skillsets and at different points in their career.

Hetherington is the least developed of all three, but would come cheap and is unshakeable in defence. also has a great passing game given he was a 9 before he transitioned.

Elliott is in his peak years and is having a great season, but would be looking for a decent deal in what will likely be his last NRL deal and isn't as good defensively as the other two.

Horsburgh lacks the ballplaying skillset as a lock but is a rock defensively and can turn a game on it's head on either side of the ball.

interesting times ahead and very interested to see what we decide to do.

didn’t Madge try and push harder training when he was at the WT?

And from what we heard, how did that go down with the playing group? No bueno was the rumours

it’s not easy to turn around a culture…

Talent wise , this Storm team is a lot weaker than some of their previous versions … but there they are again with the minor premiership wrapped up weeks out from the finals … they sure as hell do something right there
In due respect, we'll only have 3 players next season from our 2021 squad under Madge (Seyfarth, Twal & Doueihi) and I doubt they were the ones whinging.

I like the look of Hetherington. He’s well suited to the modern game and gives us something we don’t currently have - leg speed, line speed and attitude.

Maybe its both Hetherington and Horsburgh, but one moving to the front row.

I hope Morgan Knowles was one Richo was talking to in the UK too but is an injury risk. At his best is better than those 3 IMO.

Another consideration is whether Benji sees Bird as a lock with Latu Fainu being transitioned into that role.

certainly wouldn't be against it, but we'd have to clear the decks and move some pretty tough contracts, Klemmer being one of them. Matamua I'd say would probably have to be sold as well.

I get the feeling it's likely one or the other.

I'd say Hetherington would be my first pick if it wasn't for a pretty poor season this year at Brisbane.

that said, there's many a quality player there that are playing well below standard and are in need of change.

Knowles has dropped off these past few years imo. I think you're right, on his day he's a great player but I get the feeling Richardson doesn't want to mess around with players transitioning between leagues and acclimatising.

Bird I think will be Bateman's replacement, but that's just me. I understand the Latu school of thought but the bloke has made it thru 80 minutes once this season, and that was playing in the halves. he's 18 months away from moving to the middle at minimum, and that's only if Marshall sees a future for him there.

And when ciraldo pushed hard the bulldogs were accused of bullying because a player couldn’t keep up…the players need to have the right psyche to achieve.
Never forget what Tallis said about the dogs player who filed the lawsuit. Agree 100 percent with it and it should be the mentality towards training. Tallis said its ok if rugby league isn't for you. Great response, if you can't keep up you can't keep your spot.

We are in a tricky spot with Latu atm. Think he is in a bit of a holding pattern atm. We can get him in as a fill in 9 or build him into a 13. Problem is if Galvin leaves he's our future 6. I'd be pushing to find out where Galvin is at, if it feels like he's just using us as a stepping stone then I would throw Latu in at 6 and let Galvin fill in at 9 or 13 till he leaves. Why should we potentially stunt Latus growth if Galvin is leaving.

Think we have space for both Hetherington and Horsburgh if Bateman goes.
I don't think Elliot fits what we need regardless of player movement.

Has the training changed though ?

You wouldn’t have though so considering how much they wilt at the back end of games …even the last two that they won …
It will be interesting to see what changes take place in the footy dept over the next month especially if the S&C guys change. I am sure Richo, Benji & Betsey will have post-season reviews next week & tap some staff on the shoulder. Then we need the new staff in asap to plan for pre-season Nov-1.

first thing that needs to be done with Latu is build his motor and strengthen his hamstrings. after that he needs to just put together 80 minute performances in Cup for the first few months of next year, then we can talk about a transition to the middle.

It's not worth worrying about.

He's 19 and first drop behind Luai and Galvin. He'll get plenty of opportunities next year. Both Galvin and Latu a contracted for 2 and 3 years respectively and we can see how their bodies develop next year.

The Storm has 21yo star junior Pezet behind Hughes and Munster. Long term we need to find a position for them if they both stay but it's too early IMO.

As Richo often reminds us, this is not his first rodeo and he has overseen last to first revivals before ..hopefully he knows how to get us there next ..so I’m sure he has an idea on what kind of offseason training regime will be required to get it done.. I am expecting changes in the S & C this time around
