Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Or start with Klemmer, Twal, Seyfarth (second row) &, for the sake of the argument, Kobe Hetherington- and blunt the early offensive.

Then rotate Hunt, Pole, Sione Fainu throughout the game & attack tiring defenders. Many ways to skin the beast. Not all of them include spectacular plays.
Klemmer, Twal & Seyfarth all starting together is basically asking for no yardage from your forwards

I don't think there are any props out there that significantly improve us without becoming problematic in the latter years of their contracts. RCG and Saifiti are both in that category.

IMO we're better off targeting someone for 2026 and see how Faagatu and Miller develop with another off season.

Use the few spots we have that bring something different like Kobe Hetherington and Montoya if we can get them.
Ur kidding , miller would struggle in a-grade and faagatu has not set the world on fire in lower grades .
We got 1 year to get us up the table , or we will lose Galvin and anyone else who wants to jump ship , we need 4-5 tough nuts in the forwards not baby fat kids , if our club doesn’t get close to the finals next year then we could be waiting for a every long time

Know how many tackles Klemmer missed in the last 6 weeks?

4. While making 113 tackles.

Fonua Pole in the last 6 weeks?

21 missed tackles, while making 146.

Klemmer missed 17 tackles all season, making 455. Pole, 64, making 536.

This is a team that cannot defend. This is why Klemmer has value. I like Pole- but the difference in opinion between Klemmer & Pole is light years apart.

Klemmer made 2,023m running this season. Pole, the better attacking player- 2,489m.

Pole made 1009 post contact metres to Klemmer's 846.

For reference, Utoikamanu had....990 post contact metres while missing 46 tackles, making 661.

Royce Hunt has made 1,010m, made 209 tackles & missed...22.

I would suggest that Klemmer is a victim of not being 'spectacular'. He doesn't make big, bustling charges, skittling 15 defenders & bursting through the line.

He also doesn't miss chunks of tackles through the middle that often resembles a freeway for opposition forwards.

"Experts" talk about the 1% plays. Ugly defensive stats, charges where you are running head long into an unwinnable contest. Staying in the contest. I wonder how many people take notice of these 1% plays when the opposition run through gaps left by Pole, Utoikamanu, Sione Fainu etc.

This team needs more David Klemmer's, to let the Sam Fainu, Pole, Hunt attacking abilities take effect. We can't win 61-60. We need to stop other teams from walking through the middle. Why do you think we are looking at defensive oriented #13's at the moment?

Klemmer is a “victim” of getting paid 3 times more than Pole and Sione… if he was getting paid $400k to put up unspectacular numbers than no one would care

We need players who are very strong at the twoD’s …defence and discipline

We are stuck with a number of aging players on long contracts like Klemmer, Bateman, Olam that their previous club didn't want and you want to get more of those?

Increased metres coming from our wingers, who are upgraded by Turuva & Skelton & possibly Montoya reduce the need for metres in the middle. Don't believe me? Have a quick look at how the Dolphins forwards perform, or the Bulldogs middles. Even the Panthers.

Who said about getting wasted players , I want players with very high work rates , Bateman will not be back , KLEMMER my not be the hole punching forward he once was but he is a very good defender, AND let’s see how olam comes back from his knees operation, he might just surprise u

Unless you are paying the wages- I don't see the issue. We have $12 billion in free cap space (or similar...) so what could it possibly matter if Klemmer is overpaid for a year at this point?

Klemmer is the 'victim' of critics on here getting starstruck by Royce Hunt runs into oncoming traffic.

To make it fair- Pole had 3 times Klemmer's missed tackles- so there is that.

Perhaps you can explain what the point is comparing season stats and total meters of a starting player to a bench player?

What are you generally trying to prove BTW? That our former international player and one of the highest paid players is better than a guy that started the season as a fringe first grade player … earning a comparative pittance ?

I’m sure you are smart enough to work out that there is an opportunity cost of overpaying players that don’t perform to their paypacket

For those interested here's a good article on Kobe Hetherington from last year:

https://www.theleader.com.au/story/8364690/broncos-cattledog-kobe-grew-up-tackling-calves-as-kid/

The more I read about this guy, the more I think he'd be great for our culture as well as our defensive resolve. Love these lines:

Australia's defensive coach and two-time premiership winning Broncos forward Trevor Gillmeister told AAP that Hetherington was amongst the best defenders in the game.

"Kobe cuts them in half with the way he gets in under the ball. He's been a big part of the Broncos' success," Gillmeister said.

And when it comes to positions, Hetherington is a man of many talents, looking up to Roosters forward Victor Radley as the kind of ball playing lock he would like to be.

“I started at hooker when I was at my juniors, and then went to lock when I put a bit of size on. I’m trying to keep my ball work a bit handy.”

“It’s good to keep learning new positions. Lock’s my main priority, but it’s good to have hooker behind me as well.”

Okay, name one that's available and not over the hill?

He’s definitely the type of player we need. We never prioritise used to prioritise defence and attitude in our signings but here’s hoping we’ve turned a corner.

I'd say his defensive stats are in the spectacular range. Too many people on here forget about that defence is where we lack most when bagging Klemmer and Twal. I agree we're paying too much for Klemmer, that's unfortunate, but he's been our best defender
