Cherry-Evans retires and Brooks moves to half. Can't wait.
Large only plays 5/8 or spits the dummy; no halves manager, and Manly drops out of the 8.

Cleary has a taste for our failed assistant coaches so that might be Hodgo's plan.

Fitzy doesn't meet the pre-requisites of having zero coaching experience!!

Fitzys been a trainer / coaching since he finished with us.

Won a couple from memory? Might have even captain coached for a premiership in Group 9

You can flog the bejeezuz out of a reserve grade side and they’ll still be reserve grade

It all starts with the 30 odd cattle you have at your disposal. Without the right mix of quality, experience,speed power and a bit of luck, your not going anywhere

I think Cleary had some sort of concussion when he was here because he also signed Russell Packer, Moses Mbye, and Josh Reynolds.

At this point I think he deliberately sabotaged us because since he joined the Panthers he hasn't made a bad decision.

And I note Ivan didn’t take him to Penrith when he left !
I hope he helps, at least he should be a bit more astute than RF but I’m just concerned that we seem to think the answers will come from Old boys and I’m just not sure about that.
And who’s going to be our forwards coach, an ex half back or an ex full back ?
Or an ex forward who is now water boy.!

Hodge could be forwards coach as well. He came face to face with Tallis. That was a lesson learned.

As has been pointed out before, Benji has come off the heels of 3.5 years of Madge, who did exactly that.

So, it may be an overcorrection, which is probably likely, but it also may be a gradual build whereby Benji sees rapport as priority number 1, make everyone happy and committed, then, once the cohesion and trust is established within the squad, start to dial up expectation as priority 2.

The alternative is coming in swinging for the fences and cracking whips from the outset and risk alienating large swathes of the roster, something that has happened at several clubs, not just ours, and something that Benji wants to avoid at all costs I'd say.

It remains to be seen if we have the patience to play that card.

Or, I could be miles wide of the mark.

Not a slight on Blore (I wanted to keep him) but it would have been rare he was fit to do a preseason and not in the rehab group

Does anyone know if there were any other candidates interviewed for the assistant role? Was there any sort of process?

Obviously on the outside it looks like hodgo is there because he knows Benji, but perhaps there was in fact a number of candidates and hodgo just happened to be the best of them. As others have said, the logical choice was to find a more experienced coach. Hopefully this works out.

Not a slight on Blore (I wanted to keep him) but it would have been rare he was fit to do a preseason and not in the rehab group

I think he did the last 3 preseasons. From memory he did all last season. 22 did the preseason before doing his acl in Feb and in 21 did the preseason before breaking his wrist in Feb.

Interesting no happy birthday post for John Bateman today but just 10 days ago there was one for Isiah papali’i, hopefully a sign for things to come involving Batemans contract, or I’m just looking too far into it

But we were able to send a well done across the bridge to Brooks along with one to a guy who’s left for Penrith.
Everything arse about face in this club.
I’d say you are looking right into it !
