Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Obviously you know everything,
If so Please explain,
How did Ivan go when he coached us, then how has he gone at Panthers, ????
we almost made the 8th and came 9th i think.

Which is where i said a good coach could get us to.

Around the 8.

like flanno, the dolphins etc.

I never said he would win us a premiership.

I'm simply making the point that good coaches make a difference.

Everyone here arguing that bellamy, bennet, cleary, robinson would win the spoon if they had the same squad as Benji i don't agree with... because coaches DO make a difference.

How big a difference? depends how good the coach is.

Like, if we had Andrew Webster or Justin Holbrook -- maybe we still win the spoon i dont know.

I have a simple argument... that Benji is the worst coach in the league. That no other team would take Benji over their coach in the league right now. They would love his pulling power no doubt - but that only worked before we won the second spoon hence why Steff left and Luai signed early in the season and now Lachlan Galvin won't extend even though we are offering him a contract upgrade. I doubt Luai would sign now if we had won 2 wooden spoons.

Everyone is waiting to see if Benji can coach - because right now -- he has won two wooden spoons and employs his mates around him and has a questionable work ethic.

If Bennet was coming to us next year instead of Souths, I would bet $1million -- that Steff would have stayed, that Galvin would have extended (if the dollars were decent), and that we would make the top 8 next yeara with our squad (maybe better).

Everyone backing Benji is living in hope. The same hope as when Sheens came back. The same hope when we signed Josh Reynolds. The same hope when we sign old injury prone players that "just need a fresh start" ... where has hope gotten us in 12 years? no where.

Madge wasn't the answer because Lee and Justin were complete duds and he couldnt recruit big players on his own... imagine Justin and Lee being in the meeting withhim trying to recruit.

Cleary bailed because he got a better offer to coach his son and with a powerhouse club.

The best signing this club has made is Richo -- but even he would never have apoointed Benji if he was in charge before and now he is hamstrung bc of Luai - to at least give Benji a crack next year -- but also will be sweating that if we start bad we will probably lose Galvin... PLUS all the good coashes that were avaiable have signed up...

We should've signed Bennet when he was free, with Benji to do 3 more years as assistant.

benji could have green lit that with his close relationship to wayne -- but he was too ARROGANT to do that.

now we're all praying we start well otherwise we lose more juniors.

The Knights say no, because it's a dreadful offer. If they are open to getting rid of Pearce-Paul it's because they are under cap pressure or want to free up cap for something else. Why on earth would they swap 600k of salary cap liability attached to a decent player for 1.3m of salary cap liability for two players who aren't first grade standard, one of whom seems to fall out with every club he goes to? Meanwhile, Newcastle don't have a lack of halves: they have a lack of good halves - a problem the signing of Sullivan will not resolve.
GNR might be Pascoe’s burner account, loves a good coach knifing on the bi-annual. Gotta stay consistent.

Madge was perfect for Origin. Small intense doses with an extremely talented playing group. To say Madge didn't get a fair crack here is totally revisionist. Maybe they can go rewatch "Tales From Tiger Town" to relive some of the glory days.
No coach got a fair crack working for the muppets.

Was reading an article on the Daily Tele about the Top 50 players in the NRL who aren't signed for next year. Reading through the names these are the ones who stood out to me the most who could be serviceable to the club while letting the young guys develop. Ofahiki Ogden, Matthew Lodge, Valynce Te Whare, Zach Dockar-Clay, Chris Patolo, Peter Hola, Joe Stimson, Dean Ieremia. Who out of these guys would you take? For the record these are guys who maybe wouldn't make the top 17 but if there are injuries/suspensions you aren't having to rely on kids who aren't ready to play first grade.
Zac Docker Clay, has been around many clubs… was with the Magies a few seasons ago … they are all
Rubbish

First time he got clear air from cleary’s signings he got Api and Ice, but didn’t get to coach them. He also brought Steph to the club
Tried to get others but didn’t get them over the line

I’m talking about Latrell … and the others.

I like Madge don’t get me wrong and he did sign those players you’re right

I’m arguing against those that say Madge was a dud.

But Madge had / has a stigma that he’s too tough… it’s hard for him to sign players when the club is a dud like ours because why would they come and get flogged by Madge to not compete for the 8.

Madge in a powerhouse club works - they can sign and retain more players bc they chance of winning a premiership is greater

I won't refute everything you've said because, quite frankly, I agree with a lot of it.

But there are far, far more criticisms on Madge than him simply being too tough.

His lack of technical nous or adaptability to the modern game or modern defences was just one amongst a litany of critiques laid at his feet during, not only his time here, but his exit from Souths as well.

I like Madge. Quite a bit in fact.

But there are legitimate shortcomings, or at least there has been, in his coaching approach and style that go beyond him simply not having the squad around him.

No chance! He would have been sacked very quickly at any other club on his performance. He is not a coach. He is a learner and we need someone who can coach with expeirence.

He has now experienced an awful lot in the last few years that will give him a lot of experience he needs to become a good coach, And all you people that keep bagging him should remember how hard our club tried to get another Coach, but had great difficulties trying to get someone willing to have a go, at least Benji was willing to give it a go, and Benji and Richo are definitely on the right track in their efforts to make this work.

And we, as supporters of the Wests Tigers should be supporting Benji And Richo in what they are doing, instead of trying to destroy them.

Spot on.

We had a good coach but bad admin.

Now we have the opposite problem IMO. Benji may not be a bad coach in the long term, but he’s way off the pace at the moment.

Agree… guess we’ll find out at the broncos.

If he lasts 3 yrs or more and has success we can say that it was actually the tigers lol

Bullshit. To all of it.

Yeah Benji is the issue alright, anyone who couldn't excel with Daine Laurie, Douehi, Will Smith, Wakeham, Tamou, Gildart, Peachey, Musgrove, Nofo in their starting squad must be crap. That lineup is so amazing it has finals written all over it.
Gildart was pretty much Bateman before Bateman - junky looking slow shit player - and English too!
