Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Given a NSW Cup player (Porter) outperformed him, I don't think we'll have too much trouble finding someone at the same level as Bateman. We do need to finalise things quickly so we can hurry up and replace him while there are other players available.
I know it's all the rage on here to slam Bateman but he wasn't anywhere near as bad as people make out on here and much better then Porter. Look I think it's prob not going to work out him staying but he was not the problem - his only genuinely poor game was his last one when the relationship fell apart and honestly if a senior player was angry at how the club was being run well we did come last 3 years in a row so mayby he was right

Exactly, other clubs seem to be able to sign excess players then move others on to fit them into the top 30. I might be mistaken but pretty sure the Bulldogs did that last year. Only problem is I imagine till you can fit the player into the top 30 the N.R.L won't register the contract. Someone here would know heaps more about it.
Someone on here would probably know more about it than some of the geniuses that have been in charge of managing our top 30 in the past.

Let's hope that will now change and that we can eventually sort out the mess that has been our top 30 up until now, certainly not an easy task even for someone with Richo's experience and track record.

Yes the international back rower who's shown nothing but ill discipline, reckless aggression, failed leadership qualities, taking piss weak shots at the club on his Instagram & player interviews & then undermined his Head Coach in front of the playing group.
…and was still selected for England despite another spoon year.

??? What has that got to do with anything ? It’s hard for anyone to justify his form this past year . It’s no different to QLD picking players who have been borderline dropped by thier NRL team . Like Gagai at times in his career .
Doesn’t mean thier club form wasn’t shit though , no matter how they play in that game .

Nothing to do with what's all the rage. Defensively Bateman gave away too many penalties and a few crucial ones, and a number of crucial missed tackles.

Looking at the stats, they seem to back up the eye test.

Games
Bateman 12
Porter 8

Errors
Bateman 11
Porter 0

Try Causes
Bateman 7
Porter 2

Penalties Conceded
Bateman 8
Porter 4

Runs/Metres
Bateman 11/81
Porter 8/68

On top of that he's having a go at the coach in front of the players. I hope he's gone before November 1.

Manly are mulling over a move for English back-rower John Bateman as they look to save him from the threat of NRL purgatory at the Wests Tigers.
I would think that if Manly are thinking about taking on Bateman that they have most likely been mulling up and using a way too strong mix of Marijuana in their bongs.

Are there any forwards that played better this year under their new WT's coach this year?
Stefano went from being a future captain to a reserve grader - Api lost his origin spot also didn't he?
Rumours Klemmer is also not happy....

Maybe it's not them?

And also would be on probably 2.5-3 times what Sione would be signed for

@kade7 what does that mean - large is a factor?
we released him early to Manly when we could've easily just kept him and made things difficult. we've overseen a lot of his development to this point. despite the fact that he's yet to play first grade and far from the finished article, right now he's a blue chip stock.

bit of we scratched your back, time to scratch ours.

Why would Manly consider that at all relevant.

Much like Klemmer, Bateman has a number of people on this forum who will only see the negative. I get it- he's a polarizing personality, and apparently we should feel aggrieved by the money someone other than ourselves pays him. 🙂

Porter is the perfect KOE type player. Works hard & will always be genuine in his effort. Bateman is just a better player.

That said, if he doesn't want to be here, it's absolutely best for the club to move him on. We don't want prisoners, we want volunteers.

Replacing Bateman will require another defender that can take on attacking players without the help of 12 mates to bring the runner to ground. This was where Bateman was good. He's a surprisingly strong player & didn't need half the defence to assist him in taking down a runner.

I would assume the club has options in mind if Bateman does move on.

As I am consistantly reminded- stats don't tell a full story. I think Porter is EXACTLY the type of player our KOE should be populated with- guys that can step in, do the job & put the effort in.

He's not a physical as Bateman, doesn't really take players down 1-on-1 the same way. And other than 1 good break, probably doesn't offer the attack Bateman does. But he's a great example of how a misfit player elsewhere doesn't mean an incompetent player.

Pole, fainu , both of them , seyfarth, I’d argue ice had a much better year than previous ? Is that enough ?
once again , if your personal form is dependant on a coach , then you’ve got bigger issues to deal with . you’re either a system player so incapable of playing outside of it , or you’re a head case .
running hard , tackling hard , getting a quick ply the ball, are dependant on yourself . They don’t change from u7s to nrl . The other stuff, like structures nd what not , are different .
no one I. Their right mind can say it looked like th structures were betraying john Bateman . He was a petulant child all year

I struggle to find the positives in paying them to play for a top 8 side....
also struggling to find a better player we could pay with the money we'd save...

Hang on, We've got Tumeth (Who barely stands out in 20's)
I remember when Penrith moved RCG, DWZ and Waga Blake on to new clubs mid season costing them around 300k a season for the remainder of their contracts. (Roughly 3 more years).
That kind of money of the 2019 cap would equate to almost 600k on next years cap.
Anyway it didn’t seem to impact them in either ongoing retention of preferred players OR recruitment (API, Capewell, Tetevano) joined not long after..
Trust the process?
