Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

An ageing uninterested John Bateman will offer nothing more than what Seyfarth, Sukkar or Tumeth could offer.
Seyfarth would be earning about a third of what Bateman is being paid and Sukkar and Tumeth would be earning a sixth of what Bateman is being paid.
No idea why Wests Tigers keep ending up with some of the most overpaid contract in the history of the game.
Sullivan and Klemmer’s contracts are even worse and I don’t mind either of them as players, just they are both getting paid more than double of their true value.
All (no, sorry, most) clubs go through periods where they overload on a miss.

Saifiti, Hynes, Hastings, Latrell, RCG, Schuster, et al.

Even Penrith had a time, not too long ago, where they were clogged with bad contracts that needed to be cleared. Moylan, Lewis, RCG, Jennings.

The Roosters at one stage last year had Cheese out the door on a healthy contract. Ditto for Melbourne and NAS.

It happens a lot. The better clubs do their best to make sure it happens less.

And, importantly, they keep winning whilst they're sorting it out.

It’s ok to say get rid of Bateman , but where are we getting a replacement, he may not be making breaks but his defence is very good , so we pull up some kid from nsw cup ,,who really should be playing a-grade to replace him , this would ensure we get another wooden spoon

I trust the character assessments Richo is making. It's not blind faith, as he has the resume. He understands what it takes to get us from here to where we need to be. If he has assessed Bateman as not having the required levels of commitment, then I back him in. In terms of culture and on field performance, give me a committed lower tier NRL forward over a disgruntled John Batemen any day of the week. From the outside looking in it sure as hell looks like he is not committed to the cause.

Given a NSW Cup player (Porter) outperformed him, I don't think we'll have too much trouble finding someone at the same level as Bateman. We do need to finalise things quickly so we can hurry up and replace him while there are other players available.

Porter is also an international (Cook Islands) (and a reserve grader).

Thereby making the original post even more hilarious.

I know it's all the rage on here to slam Bateman but he wasn't anywhere near as bad as people make out on here and much better then Porter. Look I think it's prob not going to work out him staying but he was not the problem - his only genuinely poor game was his last one when the relationship fell apart and honestly if a senior player was angry at how the club was being run well we did come last 3 years in a row so mayby he was right

Exactly, other clubs seem to be able to sign excess players then move others on to fit them into the top 30. I might be mistaken but pretty sure the Bulldogs did that last year. Only problem is I imagine till you can fit the player into the top 30 the N.R.L won't register the contract. Someone here would know heaps more about it.
Someone on here would probably know more about it than some of the geniuses that have been in charge of managing our top 30 in the past.

Let's hope that will now change and that we can eventually sort out the mess that has been our top 30 up until now, certainly not an easy task even for someone with Richo's experience and track record.

Yes the international back rower who's shown nothing but ill discipline, reckless aggression, failed leadership qualities, taking piss weak shots at the club on his Instagram & player interviews & then undermined his Head Coach in front of the playing group.
…and was still selected for England despite another spoon year.

??? What has that got to do with anything ? It’s hard for anyone to justify his form this past year . It’s no different to QLD picking players who have been borderline dropped by thier NRL team . Like Gagai at times in his career .
Doesn’t mean thier club form wasn’t shit though , no matter how they play in that game .
