Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Guys stop worrying so much about our forward depth,
November 5th is around the corner, happy Halloween
I bet, just like every year, come Nov 1 or 5, there’s nothing but crickets.
But in the following weeks maybe, hopefully we can offload/ pickup some NRL players.

Just because he wasn’t a revelation on the field doesn’t mean he wasn’t a good buy.
It really does, though. When you sign players they sort of have to play well to be considered good signings. I know you're going to respond with some nonsense about culture and setting standards, to which I will pre-emptively reply: how much good did Matt Ballin do us?

Alright, you get to pick 2. Who are you going with?

If only that was the outcome over these next few weeks. 2 of those would be awesome, along with moving on Bateman and AD, and losing a couple of others that are superfluous. And re-signing Fonua as well of course.
Dreams can come true!!!!

Geeze those round 1 teams we put up look terrible

Twal, Seyfarth and Sione Fainu - keep one of them

Bird at lock is horrendous

Our forward pack is probably the worst in the league

Bird and Bateman are small

Hunt plays 15 mins

Klemmer is another year slower

Only api and Samuel’s are starters

Sione and Pole are ok impact guys but could have one of them

Everyone else is a massive plodder. Not sure they’d make any other pack.

We are missing 2/3 genuine first graders that would be in top 8 sides
We can only hope there is more player movement in the offseason.

No one is disagreeing with you. As much hate as Stef gets, it's gonna be hard replacing Stef/Paps. And I agree with @GNR4LIFE Bird's body is too broken down to play in the middle.

Not sure what footy games you were watching to think To'a was our best back in 23, and a starter in 25.
He has had one off the charts game, and his other half decent games could be counted on one hand, he should never have been re-signed, and if we are relying on him next year we may as well wave the white flag now, he is a back up player.
Bula aside, he was comfortably our best back. Most tries, over 100m average a game (only bettered by Nof and players who boosted their average paying fullback) best tackle efficiency of any back. His individual form was quite good and had little help either side of the ball from Wakeham and Nofo.

I'm not saying he isn't inconsistent or that we shouldn't look elsewhere long term but he was clearly our best outside back in 23 and his 23 form, imo, is better than what any of our other centre options (for 25) showed in 2024.

Including Turuva?
Yes. Turuva has shown no form as a centre having played exclusively as a winger in first grade. Having been twice dropped for defensive issues as a winger does not fill me with any confidence that he can competently defend as a centre.
Im fine for Turuva to do plenty of reps at centre in the off season and earn a centre spot. I just think from what ive seen thus far he is more suited to wing than centre.

This is what worries me is the drag gueens , gave us a toweling up , and they have picked up much better players than we have ( since the season has ended ) , so there’s a team we will struggle to beat , as they have a monster side , which we can’t cope with , gee I hope Richo has a rabbit or two up his sleeve

Who have the Dragons picked up that makes them better than last year? On paper they have gone backwards.

They just lost their 2 best players. I’m sure Richo will add some forwards before round 1.

And Finucane turned out not to be a good buy for the Sharks.
He was a fantastic signing for them, and us missing out on him is a contributing factor for us winning 3 spoons in a row.
We have had no leaders at the club. We didn't sign him because he wanted 4 years and we stopped at 3. Sharks offered 4, knowing he wouldn't finish them, and then they medically retired him after 2 years. No further cap hit, they milked his leadership, further instilled a culture of work ethic and excellence and then shipped him off.
We missed out and our still in the same position we were in.
