Fonua Pole #257

I heard at St George , that certain players like lomax and hunt were offside with a lot of the playing group because they’re not apart of the boys club . You can draw all kinds of conclusions with the recent history of the playing group .
I’m not sure if there’s been a change , with flanno coming in , but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was the same , considering that was the environment fostered at Cronulla .
I have no idea where bird fits in in that though ….

Which is what makes the whole Jack Bird thing... Weird.

Flanno: I want to build what I did at Cronulla. So ditch Jack Bird?

I mean you are punting Ben Hunt, you have punted Lomax. You should have a stack of cash OR (their cap can't be that badly managed). So why ditch Bird?

But they did ditch Bird.
They ditched him, and he seemed to be doing something at the back end of the year for them.

Unless Flanno is just making room for Kyle Flanno, OR they are going hunting for top talent i.e. Ezra Mam. I don't understand this at all.

Still. Lose 2 props sign 2. You know what I mean? Same predicament or different you think? Both could be at Melbourne. The 2 we bought were not wanted by their clubs and our 2 want out.

Pole has an offer on the table and has not taken it up , how long do you wait , or maybe he was waiting for this to happen
We sign
Luai , Turuva , Skelton , so far no big boppers , Pole waits
We sign Hunt , Bird , pole still waits as we are now about where we were last season up front , Bird for Papi , Hunt for Steph
Now we sign May, a very good hard running no nonsense prop , pole will think yep how’s the time to sign as we should go places now , he will sign

It must be a low offer. Melbourne will match it and he will still leave. Its not just about money but playing semi final football. May is a good signing - yes. But Pole seems not to be interested with the tabled offer. He maybe wants to compete at an elite level. We are not there. I hope Wests Tigers reach that level and players come to us not because of money but to compete for a premiership. Each year. Not just once in 10 years. We had no big signings in 2005. It wasn't a business. It was a team playing for each other not their bank account. Look at us now. A business. Our highlights it seems for the last 10 seasons are in the off season. Not when it counts. Imagine Pole at the Roosters. You think the way he is playing Roosters would let him go. Arguably who where our best 2 forward in 2024. For me personally - and I respect all your thinking - but Pole is better than May. May was also playing under the Roosters structure. It will be different for him now. Hope be doesn't bottom out like all our signings apart from Api. Pole proved like Api and Samuela that great players play good at any team. We just need 10 other players thinking the same. I will be happier than I am today same time next year if we come 15th or 16th. Just some improvement. Pole will be a loss. Im sure everyone on this forum agrees unlike Stef - he plays with HEART. Stef will next season.

Hed be stupid to leave now. We’re seriously building. What happens when Bellamy leaves?

The Wests Tigers have landed another significant pre-season blow after convincing impressive forward Fonua Pole to knock back interest from the Melbourne Storm and sign a two-year extension with the club.
Pole emerged as one of the Tigers’ important players last season, becoming a fixture in their pack as he made 23 appearances for the club.
He entered the final year of his deal on November 1 and it is understood the Storm were keen to lure him to Melbourne, where his younger brother Suli is part of the system.

However, Pole has instead opted to stay at the Tigers in a huge vote of confidence for coach Benji Marshall and chief executive Shane Richardson, signing a deal that will tie him to the Tigers until the end 2027.
Pole’s retention continues a resurgent pre-season for Marshall and the club, who added Sydney Roosters forward Terrell May to their ranks as part of a recruitment drive that has netted the likes of Jarome Luai, Royce Hunt and Jack Bird.
